>double barrel
>Literally two single barrel shotguns together essentially with some minor adjustment for linkage and POA
>Single barrel shotguns ~150
>Double barrels and over unders at the very cheapest are like 400+

Why
>>
It's hard to make a decent double barrel and requires hand finishing to do well.
>>
>>32499915
Regulation of the barrels is a time consuming task. And doubles are usually fancy.
>>
>>32499915
When you have two barrels next to each other on the same gun they need to be regulated, that shit isn't entirely simple.

For an example, double-barreled rifles are VERY expensive, because regulating two rifle barrels so they both hit at the same spot is quite tricky.
>>
>>32499934
I don't want fancy I just want a decent side by side or over under with ejectors for a reasonable price not 6-700 bucks.
>>
>>32499915
Making two straight pipes next to each other have the exact same POI at 30 yards is neither quick nor cheap to accomplish.
>>
>>32499981
That is a reasonable price. Just because YOU can't afford it doesn't make it unreasonable. 20k for a basic double barrel? Yeah that would be unreasonable. $600 is what you pay for almost any long arm of actual quality.
>>
>>32499981
Look for an old used Stoeger coach gun.

>>32499999
>>
>>32499999
I can buy a good AR for 500 so no it's not unreasonable to think 600 is a lot for some gun that's just reasonably good.

>>32500026
No ejector kinda kills it. Also only comes with short barrel yes?
>>
>>32500037
Is he wrong?
>>
>>32499981
Do you live in the US? There are approximately infinity old Stevens 311s kicking around at gun shops.
>>
>>32500050
I do live in the us but I have yet to purchase a used firearm. I'll look into that a little I don't mind used
>>
>>32500044
>Also only comes with short barrel yes?
There's some 26" barreled 12 Gauge guns on gunbroker right now, for like 400 something.

Don't know if they have ejectors though, you might have to look for something else.
Baikals are pretty cheap, but I don't know if they have ejectors.
>>
>>32500062
There's absolutely no shortage of used hunting shotguns in any part of the United States, you should probably be able to find something to your liking for about $400 with a bit of looking.
>>
>>32500044
>I can buy a good AR for 500 so no it's not unreasonable to think 600 is a lot for some gun that's just reasonably good.
>what is economy of scale
There's like what, less than ten companies that make SxS shotguns today? Fucking everyone and their mother makes parts for AR's. That's not a fair comparison.
>>
>>32499915
Because they are one of the quintessential Fudd guns and to buy one is to buy the blessing of Elmer himself.
>>
>>32500081
>There's like what, less than ten companies that make SxS shotguns today
To be fair, the used marked is just fucking lousy with the things from decades and decades of production and importation, so finding one used in that price range isn't really out of the question.

Kreighoff shotguns are pretty cool though
>>
>>32500118
Like I said, 20k for normal beater SxS. Start throwing in custom fitting, engraving, etc, etc and 20k becomes a lot more reasonable.

>>32500109
Well sure, that's why no one makes them anymore. Why buy a new one for $800 when you can buy a used one that could arguably be of better quality for $350?
>>
>>32500118
I wonder if I'll ever allow myself to blow that kind of money on a single gun.
I'm diamonds every time I look at one of those.
>>
>>32500183
iktf, I totally want a H&H or something crazy like that but I feel I'd be afraid to do anything but stick it in a case for the rest of my life.

>lol just scratched my 200k dollar gun, time to go off myself

Quints confirmed, 2017 is the year we stop being cheap faggots
>>
Why would I buy a single gun for $1000 when I could buy 10 guns for $100?

>>
>>32500264
Because you get what you pay for.

Only very few $100 guns are at all very good, most of them will be single-barrel break-shotguns imported from Brazil in the 60's.
There isn't anything inherently wrong with them, hell, they're actually pretty robust, but they're not exactly nice or fancy.

$300 - Shotguns
$100 - Parts to put shotguns together

This line of thinking is retarded for other reasons (do you really think they just smoosh two guns together at the factory?), but it makes sense cost-wise.

Though your quints are amazing and I agree with you about affordability...

I'm actually kind of with OP here. I can buy a brand new Mossberg or Remington 12ga, pump-action that can hold ~6+ rounds (depending on variant) for about $300

But a decent side by side (like Stoger) break-action 12ga with only a capacity of 2... Count it, 2!!! can cost upwards $500+

I think it's fucking silly.
>>
>>32500901
Yea, we should have somebody set the prices because they are arbitrarily too high! It's not like the price of these guns has anything to do with supply and demand.
>>
Op here

Now I'm starting to consider single shot shotguns I've heard you can get the h&r for like 70 bucks but I can't find it that price anywhere

Have I been bamboozled?
>>

>>
>>32500913
Ha. I got your sarcasm, "yay me!" riiight?...

Listen, I understand how supply and demand works. I can tell you, people are not rushing to the LGS for a coach gun. So if the demand is low - the price should reflect this. You faggot.
>>
>>32500934
Yeah I'm sure you did it out of selflessness and not because you're the ugliest one in your clique
>>
>>32500946
Things become cheap because of surplus, not because of low demand. So if there are 500 AR-15s and 10 double barrels, the double barrels will be more expensive, even though most want the AR.
>>

>>
>>32500969
>>32500976
Yeah, rarity plays a factor too. I get it. But just because it's it's more rare and is more expensive - that does not always represent its quality or "worth".

Like I stated before, you can get better shotguns for cheaper.

So, why?

Don't you think those companies that make coach guns would want to compete price-wise with other companies that make more readily accessible ones?
>>
>>32500969
>So if there are 500 AR-15s and 10 double barrels, the double barrels will be more expensive, even though most want the AR.

Only if by most you mean at least 50 to 1.

If there are 500 ar-15s and 10 double barrels, and 300 people want ar-15s, and only 3 want double barrels, the ar-15 should cost more, since over half of the ar-15 supply is wanted, whereas less than a third of the double barrel supply is wanted.

Unfortunately this only works if 10 people own each of those guns and are in competition with each other. If only one guy has all 10, then thats a monopoly.
>>
>>32501010>>32501010

Go be poor and bitter elsewhere or make a company to try and compete with pump shotgun manufactures because even if you happen to bumble your way into tooling you will quickly realized it is much more expensive to mill out a box lock reciver and regulate the barrels than to put together mostly stamped and simple lathe operation parts.

Don't be upset :^)

You just know that, if given the choice, you would choose the modern pump over the old coach gun any day in a HD scenario - because of their capacity.

You also know that you'd choose the cheaper of the two, if that happens to be a factor, which also happens to be the modern pump.

I don't care how difficult it is to construct a coach gun over a modern pump. I don't care if there's only 1 old coach gun in the world left - I still don't see the justification in price points.

It's like asking someone if they'd prefer a penny blowjob or a $10 poke in the eye.

Oh! But the poke in the eye is much more rare! Oh! And it's a difficult-to-execute, finely crafted poke in the eye!

That's what you get for buying new. I bought a DB from a fudd a while back for $50.00 because it had a cracked stock, right behind the trigger guard. When I went to remove the stock I found that the bolt was loose. It had backed out about a quarter inch. All he had to do was some basic maintenence, and it would have never cracked. I paid about $40.00 for a replacement stock, and ended up with a spare shotgun.
Tl;dr-- go buy a used one from someone for a hundred bucks.

If they make them expensive they become a luxury item. It's one of the best marketing tricks there is. Rich people will buy the more expensive items even if the quality is similar.

The upper classes need their shotguns to be expensive for their shoots because the whole thing is about image.

Why make and sell £300 sxs when a pump action is better in the same price range, when you can make a sxs for £1000 and rich ass holes will buy it still.
