I already said it, SD9VE is $300 from Academy. Trigger pull is atrocious but it hasn't failed me yet shooting rat shot, shitty steel case, and all sorts of JHP's. The farm I worked at had 1000 rounds of 9mm ratshot and told me I could use it whenever so I bought an SD9VE. It's a fun range gun because you can see who anticipates trigger pull and new shooters won't destroy a gun you care about.

There are general basic recommendations of firearms to can apply to most people. Now most should suggest Glock, S&W, FN, etc. based off what your looking for, thats step 1.

Step 2. is going into a store and picking the guns up and actually feeling how they feel in your hand. Can you manipulate them easily? Does the grip feel right? Does it point easily? This narrows it down further.

Step 3. (if possible). Go to a gun range that lets you rent and shoot your choices or find a friend who knows one and shoot theirs.

Step 4. ???

Step 5. Enjoy profit.

Nah, most people know what an XD is. I've seen the most country of country folk favor XD subcompact .45's over m&p's because grip safety and a few other reasons. Maybe the old XD's, but the new ones are known to be Croatian even by the rodeo culture.

The Bersa thunder is amazing, I love mine! I like that it has the look of a PPK but is much easier to actually shoot accurately. They also have the Thunder Plus which has a a longer grip and a double stack mag.

Glocks have partially unsupported barrels, so case failures with higher calibers than 9mm will actually blow up and not be confined by the barrel. Of course, the normal 9mm glocks don't do this, and it happens much less with factory rounds and not P+ or reloads.
