Their biggest advantage is numbers. The Indian military could easily win a war on their home turf because of their overwhelming numbers.

But like China, their biggest problem is they can't really project their power very well due to a lackluster navy, air force, and poor logistics. So for them invading someone else is out of the question.

You're right, china has massively improved its Navy and Air Force in the past 10-15 years.

India still has a long way to go. It's not that India is weak, it's just got such shitty logistics.

Like imagine if India was a bully who wants to fight you. He's a big guy and has a lot of friends, but to fight you he has to take a bus from the next town over, and the bus is always late and not all of his friends will fit on it.

Logistics win wars and they have a nightmare on their hands, not to mention most of their troops are basically Africa tier, with only a handful decent equipped vets near Pakistan. They also don't have the supplies to fight or maintain their hardware either.

They have lots of un-mechanized light infantry in complex terrain on their borders.

Their procurement system, and logistics to a lesser extent, is a nightmare. One of the world's worst.
