There are many people that have no idea that Southern Africa had a steady stream of violence from the 60s onward, which is hilarious because its part of the reason the continent is flooded with arms and everyone wonders why Africa sucks. Soviet, Chinese, and even North Korean made stuff. I can't remember the guys name but one of Mugabe's buddies had a bit of training in North Korea before setting up camp in Mozambique for cross border raids. Fascinating stuff.

Thats also a huge part of the problem when it comes to understanding Africa. Everybody is very quick to jump on the "evil whitey" bandwagon. It's an easy narrative to follow that doesn't require too much digging to be done, but there is a whole plethora of other reasons. Was apartheid and the Belgian Congo exactly good? No. But is genocide, crumbling infrastructure, crippling poverty, and famine decades after decolonization isn't all whitey's fault. Zimbabwe has been a nation for almost thirty years, with great economic potential, and they are currently selling the country to the Chinese. I'd give South Africa a similar timeline if the ANC stays in control before the place falls apart and sold for scrap.
