AK103 mags are nicer then circle 10's, just squeezing the empty mag on the lips the ak103's dont flex as much so it leads me to think they are stronger plastic, I find the ribbed mags easier to hold then a waffle pattern, makes them stupid thick.

I've been shooting 7.62x39 for like 15 years since I was like 12 and I've got around 12k rounds of it, probably 70% golden tiger and the rest old Chinese surplus I've been sitting on. I havent bought any 7.62x39 ammo in years. I've only got 8 7.62x39 mags with me (6 Egyptian, 2 random Eastern European) but at my parents house I've got a little more than a dozen Chinese mags.

I shoot 5.45 more than I buy 5.45 and that's always been a problem for me because even though all of my ammo is bought online anyway I still don't really like buying ammo online, I've had some close calls with it getting lost getting shipped to my apartment because UPS/Fedex have a hard time reading the package and dropping the package off to the correct apartment. Ive had neighbors I've never met show up at my house with heavy boxes of a couple thousand rounds of ammo on more than one occasion and that just isn't ok for UPS/Fedex to do with 1) stuff that costs me hundreds of dollars and 2) fucking ammunition of all things. I've got maybe a tin and a half of 7n6 left and then maybe 2500 loose new production, plus the 5250 coming in that I just bought.

I used to have a local shop that stocked WPA 5.45 for $0.23 a round and that was awesome, but he stopped and now stocks Tula 5.45 for $0.45 a round.

You will need the entire rear of the gun to be changed, old trunnion has to have rivets cut off, than old holes welded up and new holes and slots cut (no simple round holes either would have to be done with a mill for the square cuts) than new trunnion riveted in, and then a hole drilled into the front trunnion for the folding stock latch and a slot cut there. Overall would take a smith with good AK knowledge a few hundred to be done not including part (100-200). Would not be worth it and with mak90 receiver thickness could run into some problems so over all not worth it in my opinion, if you are set on a 7.62 rifle with a triangle folder you dont have a lot of options, SLR-107 (not currently being imported so you have to find one on gun broker going for way more than they are worth or a used one in your area prob 1100+ but not sure) DDI 762 Triangle folder (less than an arsenal and apparently the extractors breaking was fixed) Final option is having a smith do a kit build (cost is going to vary a lot on this)

Shot my brand new VEPR for the first time today.

So /akg/, how did I do;

I picked up a Lancaster Arms (I know this is/was a shit tier manufacturer) milled Bulgarian parts 74, 12 Russian and Bulgarian mags (loaded), and a sealed spam can for $450. The guy I bought it from is a friend and needed the cash. He let me run five mags through it, no malfunctions. The muzzle device and gas tube have a little rust, spent about an hour trying to get rid of it but couldn't get rid of it all.

I live a lonely life and buying things helps fill the void.

Several were bought as collector's pieces like my fleur and my North Korean. Others were bought when there was a good deal going on so I would buy a 10 pack and squirrel it away, part of the fun in that was they would be mixed Euro surplus so it was fun to see what I got. Usually bought a couple at every gun show I went to if there was a good deal.

I've considered selling some mags as I could double or even quintuple what I originally paid but that most likely isn't going to happen.

Some of the higher end AKs just look nice by default. As for WASRs and the such it's really easy to refinish wood. The wood on my Interarms was complete garbage when I got it but I refinished it and it looks good now.

Anyone know some interesting low profile optics I could get? Something like the PK-AS, PK01-VS, or a small forward reflex sight that would replace the rear sight like the PK-06, if it'd even be possible to put it where the rear sight is. I'm more interested in something that doesn't require batteries. I just want something that is easier to aim with. Hard for my eyes to focus on just the forward sight. Most optics look ugly as sin on AK's though in my opinion, so I'm kind of hesitant about the whole idea.

Depends what you mean by easily. It's just as involved as converted a regular fixed stock AK to a left side folder, or an underfolder, which is a bit more than the average hobbyist can do themselves. But if you have a square back Vepr, it can be done, yes. It can actually be done with a slant back Vepr, but that's a bit more involved and you'll have to find someone willing to do it.

If you're seeing an RPK-203 kit then the folding trunnion should be included, if not then it's a pretty worthless bag of parts, since I assume the bolt and front trunnion are toast too (deact).

It's a completely different trunnion, and there's no distinction on pin size.
