Hey /k/, I was wondering if you could help me identify two items I recently came upon:
A saber which looks fine and rustless but slightly bent (I had trouble taking it out of it's sheath).
A thick (2.5/3mm) knife/dagger that felt really sturdy.
I came upon those at my grandmother's house (which means I didn't much of an opportunity to observe/study them before leaving/without looking creepy) and she told me she got them from her uncle who apparently found those at Abidjan, no more details given.
Is anybody familiar with those and the value they could hold?

I've been looking over google for the sabre but I've seen nothing African that looks even remotely close; especially the handle and the scabbard.

swords is the closest I can think of. Roughly the right part of the world, whether it's simply similar styles amongst neighbours or Mandingo variant I have no idea.

"North Africa" is usually taken as the Sahara and northwards, so you'd miss things from Sierra Leone, The Ivory Coast, etc.

From what I've seen, the sabre might also be of Tuareg origin.
Sadly, I think the knife is too nondescrpipt to find where it comes from. If I knew what wood it was made of, maybe...
