This was not terribly abnormal in the early GWOT.

'member stop loss? They did that because they didn't have enough bodies. Active soldiers were getting rotated back to deployment with minimum home time.
>>
>>32475330
Airborne patch, so I doubt he's a POG.
Out of curiosity how common are psychopaths in infantry?
>>
>>32475288
Nobody forced him to reenlist.
>>
>>32475355
Psychopaths are more common in POGs honestly. The 11B career field is full of dumb jocks or bronies.
>>
>>32475330
Or maybe hes got fuckall waiting for him back home and doesn't want to go
>>

>>
>>32475346
Given their growing diversity quotas, muh womyn in combat units, and trannies being A-Okay now it's not surprising that there are retards in all layers of the DOD and the services themselves to publish that kind of demoralizing shit.
>>
>>32475355
>Airborne patch, so I doubt he's a POG.

you do realize airborne units have plenty of pogs as well right?

>>
>>32475355
Airborne tab is unit designated. The tab is attached to the unit patch.

101st is not an airborne unit and doesn't jump, except for a few LRS, recce, sniper, etc. sections.

Also, airborne isn't really special.

>>32475369
Not true at all. Theres tards everywhere. And smarties everywhere. But I trust an infantryman over all obviously.
>>
>>32475288
>Why would 1 soldier have so many deployments? Is this normal?

It is normal for an infantryman to go on 1 deployment every year.

When you get to a unit, you perform an entire circuit of pre-deployment training with that unit, then deploy. Then you come back home and pick up more new guys. This cycle takes up about 1 year of total time, maybe more if Army infantry.

Then you complete a circuit of pre-deployment training with that unit, then deploy. Then you come back home and pick up more new guys. This cycle takes up about 1 year of total time, maybe more if Army infantry.

Do that six more times and you'll have 9 deployments. Guy in pic related has been in the infantry for what, 15yrs? A lot of his early deployments were non-combat deployments, and the rest were combat deployments. It's his job. He goes on deployments all the time. It's been 15yrs. Of course it's normal, his entire job is to deploy.

I hope this makes sense and explains it adequately
>>
>>32475288

B/c a) each deployment to the Sand Box is generally 6 months, b) he decided on being a soldier as a career so he's trying to do his full 20 or more, and c) even dudes who only do 4 and out the door often have two or even three combat deployments under their belt before they give Uncle Sugar the finger and GTFO and using their GI Bill to scam on 18 y/o coeds and shit
>>
>>32475288
Normally, its 2-5 depending on your length of service, but if you keep re-enlisting, you can end up with more. Assuming 3 per 5 year enlistment, that is a pretty acceptable number. If he doesn't like it, he should refrain from re-enlisting or he should get extra training so he gets to stay state side.
>>
Also, let it be known that "psychopath" is the edgy way to say "complete autist"

And the "complete autist" is lurking behind every blade of grass

>>
>>32475288
my count is 7 deployments for myself

Only 4 of them are complete though,

Others are as replacement or being replaced due to injury.

That doesn't includes various NATO/UN peacekeeping shit where we do it and throw the medals in the bins.

For interest:
Iraq 05'
Helmand 07'
Helmand 09'
Helmand 10'
Helmend 11'
Helmand 14'

However our deployments are no longer than 8 months, as short as 4 but an average of 9.

Throw in Northern ireland, riot duty, snatch squad and other stuff. which i can't give dates for for obvious PERSEC reasons.

Before you ask why i got so many dits in short time its because of volunteering for casualty replacement lists and a shortage of people in my role.
>>

average of 6 months my bad.

Got the accumulated service medal though for 720 days cumulative service.

Because he made the military a career.

Don't worry he sit most of his deployments in a 2 man can, and doing COC watch.

Nearly everything is done by lower enlisted. The Army calls it the E4 Mafia. In the Marines it's called the Lance Corporal underground.

600K plus whatever he pays off with other pays plus dat considerable retirement package he's working towards is a good chunk of change. If he plays it right he can retire at 20 or 20+ whatever is convenient for pay bumps and never have to work again. Bast pay plus allowances (BAH if he's got a property or a rental in CONUS) plus HFP and CZTE add up.

The overall package is complex but ask any retiree who had their shit together. It's quite nice to retire in your thirties or forties and kick it the next several decades.

I did 2 peacekeeping tours, 3 in Afghan and 2 in Iraq. This is not as easy as you think it is. I needed alcohol to survive fort hood. Nevermind the political bullshit, there was so many other things that went wrong over the course of those 4 years. You just expected nothing to get better and everything to get worse. Even the dudes that shipped off to SF selection said they'd rather do SF training 12 times over than come back to our unit, which was full of AWOL meth addicts, gangbangers, rapists and alcoholics.
>>
My section leader was on deployment 8 when I was on my boot deployment.

Spent 4 of those 8 in Iraq and he'd been in since 1999, if you're an infantryman or in some combat MOS you typically deploy a lot
>>
>>32475288
Back in 06, I was deploying with guys who already had three deployments.

One of those guys is at seven, and another is at 10 (he went to group).

The guys who deploy a lot usually have these markers.
>love their job/combat, usually more latter than former
>hate their spouse/family etc.
>love their family/spouse etc.

These days if you are reenlisting, and not a retard, you can select a duty station that is not likely to deploy. That is, if you want it.

Whether you deploy for shits&giggles, escaping a shitty wife, or just for that juicy combat pay, it is all the same. A personal choice.

Hey if you want non-stop deployments you can always sign up as ADA. For some salty NCOs that has pretty much been their life. 14S and 14G can pretty much do non-stop deployments downrange for CRAM. Unless you can sent to Korea, in which case do yourself a solid and an-hero or go AWOL before you get sent to 2ID.
>>
>>32475439
Short trip deployments were a 101 staple for a bit when 6 months meant 3 month dwell time. There were two or three task forces stealing my parts at any given time before everything got built up over seas, and one of them was always a 101 or 160 short trip where they didn't plan for losing an engine past the replacement itself and had to scramble for tools and parts that tend to get damaged when the turbine goes. (stupid little sensors, switches, circuit breakers, new airframe panels that take some time and tooling to fabricate on the spot) I don't really feel bad for anybody and loved every minute I got paid extra for doing fun shit with less paperwork; if you don't like the job then quit and move on to a career that keeps you in town. Deployments made the military worth it for me and most of my peers, plus it was fun most days and the bad ones got you a cool story.

They're Air Assault now. Which is arguably more useful in today's environment. The only reason 82nd is still airborne is muh tradition and the argument that we have to preserve the technical knowledge for some reason. Ya know, in case there's a time warp and we have to fight WWII all over again.

They're going to reduce the amount of standing airborne units even more. For the last few decades however airborne school is just another stepping stone for careerists, and a perk to be given out. Effective leadership tool really, plus if someone has the nuts to jump out of a plane, yadda yadda elite fighting force.

Static line still exists for helos too.

Relatively common the longer a soldier had been in, in my experience. It's actually worse for reserve and national guard units as they didn't have regulations technically preventing that.

I say technically because commanders could just use their discretion to tell soldiers to fuck off and get ready to go back to the sandbox. While most units had a rotation of prep for deploy, deploy, and cooldown, soldiers would often PCS during that cooldown period into the start of a deployment period.

Sergeant First Class is the ideal rank for enlisted soldiers. First Sergeant and above is all about politics above soldiering, and it's essentially only sought after by soldiers with families outside their platoon.

Jump school is a fucking joke. I went over the Summer while still in school/ROTC and ended up drinking/partying more while there than I was able to back at the military school I graduated from. Given once I commissioned I did end up in a line of work where it made sense to have the school under my belt, then was quickly relegated to operations and power points, at which point I said fuck the Army because if I'm not shooting motherfuckers I might as well make 3x the money for my powerpoints in the private sector.

Wish I would have just enlisted desu famalam. Even if you're a "good" officer you are still looked at as a do-nothing shitbag by the enlisted guys and even if you are lucky enough to have an "active" deployment you are rarely the first one through a door or up near point when shit goes down. That and you are surrounded by true shitbag officers who have no business planning ops or going out on missions in the first place.

Can just imagine after a deployment or two all the fads changed, missing out on memes and the major opinions that form around them and reactionary counter opinions.

I really thought about it, but I didn't exactly get along well with "management" as is. Very little patience for incompetent or self-righteous dickbags who were seemingly doing their best to get people killed or smoke them over insignificant shit. I was dropping packets for all types of schools and programs and consistently getting them shit on by people I had previously crossed. tbqh famalam it all worked out well enough, making more money than the Army would ever pay me and have a couple kids.

this is very true. If he has a shit load of deployments and actually contributed to his TSP properly instead of that lame shit they tell you to do on deployments to earn an extra $100 at the end of your tour, then he could retire comfortably.

There is a reason that Fort Hood supplies more inmates to the USDB than any other military installation.

It's pretty much the last uncucked franchise along with Battletech and a couple others.

As former ADA I can attest that this is complete BS. ADA is the least deployed career field. I was originally a 14R and have a lot of friends who reclassed to CRAM or Patriot and hardly any of them have deployed. I know multiple ADA E6+ who have never done a real deployment (Iraq/Afghan). Qatar/Kuwait/Korea don't count.

makes ya wonder why we aren't doing this IRL, doesn't it?
>>

That's actually a thing there slick sleeve. It used to be an actual job back in the day. Combat MP unit's were MP unit's where everyone was 11B qualified. I think it phased out in the late 80's/early 90's though. Who the hell do you think taught the infantry how to do room clearing/CQB and mounted patrols?

Science isn't there to a extent where the gains would go anywhere near a fraction of the costs to get them, and I think there's some laws against required surgeries/doping.

Ft. Hood is the reason I roll eyes at nasty girl comments on NG infantry units. The two NG units I was in had much better professionalism and cohesion. 9 deployment guy needs relief either way, big army consistently fails to realize that is has a huge pool of reservists and guardsmen chomping at the bit to redeploy. Guys who double dip during deployment like cops, and dudes generally fucking sick of pushing paper at their jobs who just want a year off from the humdrum

Goddamn you must be a fucking 1171.

POG = Person Other than Grunt

Pogue is the phonetic pronunciation, but this is the internet and we are on a Ghanaian Hydro-Electric Simulator, so we generally spell words the way they are written, not pronounced.

POG is a backronym that came prevalent with millennials and GWOTers that don't know any better.

Pogue was originally slang for homos and also appeared as 'pogey bait' for denoting luxuries not afforded to grunts.

Now fuck off kiddo.

>>32488689
you sure do have a lot of time to read up on 03 slang when you're a pog

pog here just want to remind you infant tree men that i was enjoying those luxuries while you were taking a nap and slobbering off the back of an MRAP ramp in the desert

i thoroughly enjoyed my green beans coffee and burger king, thinking 'wow i dont have to do that stupid shit'

then i realized i worked a thankless bitch job where nothing you do matters
>>
>>32488859

But rolling through the desert haphazardly lobbing mortar rounds at shit was the best time of my life. Why would I want to trade those memories for shit that I can do stateside?

Lob mortar rounds at hajjis = hero
Lob mortar rounds at people back home = domestic terrorist
