Its great if youre single, harder to make work with a family at home. Most people only stay in for a few years because it can be so hard on your life and body. You will miss funerals and weddings. You will get calls about medical emergencies back home and not be able to do shit about it.

Overall 9/10 profession compared to other shit ive done.

US Army Small Arms and Artillery Repairer.
It sounded amazing. It was a trap. I don't fix shit, I inspect and run calibrated gauges through weapons all day, when I'm not doing paperwork. Someone else in the shop does all the fixing, and even then, it's just parts replacement.
It's shown me how much soldiers don't care about their weapons. ESPECIALLY MPs. Ever seen blue rust? I see it regularly.
My Sergeant hammered open an M249 recently because it was so caked with carbon that the pins were stuck in place.

I drive for WB Mason.

Its pretty good, I make 15.50 an hour with overtime after 8. Which is every fucking day. If I don't work a full 8 hours on a day, I still get paid for it. The trucks are in good condition. Its just a lot of bulk boxes and reams of paper.

You either know someone in the industry or you go thru an apprenticeship like i did. If you lookup the seafarers international union, they have an unlicensed apprentice program that i ended up going thru. All told it takes about a year and a half to complete the program and you go thru a boot camp of sorts for the first 15 weeks. They have reformed a bit and are trying to make it less 'military' and more trade school.

If you pursue deck dept, you will finish as Able Bodied Seaman and be making around 8k a month before bonuses.

A majority of workers in the industry are only active for 3 to 5 years before they transition shoreside. The industry is aware that there arent many people intending to be 'lifers' anymore. Hell, you could work for a company like InTech as a contract welder for a few months a year. They hire lots of poles and swedes though, but ive met american pipefitters and welders as well.
