Is this a good first .45?
I was so close to buying the RO compact for carry and range. I read a lot of reviews, theyre all generally pretty great.

get something with front strap checkering or it will slide around. I have the basic Milspec and the only complaint I have is no checkering. Oh, and it was my first 1911 as well.

Absodamnlutely. Outstanding choice. Don't let the nogunns eurotrash tell you different.
Yeah, don't get the one with adjustable sights. Novack or not at all.

or throw on a set of pachmayer grips..
A ruger sr1911 was my first and I developed a horrible flinch that didn't go away until I went to my glock 19
My first 1911 was an old Kimber II. Still have it. I'd get a Colt Special Combat Government.

How about you not have a bitch grip?
Just an FYI, low round count, uncomfortable for a modern weapon, generally boring. There are much better 45s available.
For a first gun, maybe, but you'll get tired of it pretty quick.
>Ib4 buttblasted 1911 owners
I am one, so fuck off. An owner, not buttblasted. Well, both really.

The gun sliding around w/o front strap or checkering
I own a RO in 9mm great gun don't worry about getting front checkering unless you have a really weak grip. Also has anyone tried a kimber 22lr conversion on an RO I'm curious?

No. Not because 1911s are bad but because Springfield Armory is bad.
>but why?
Their guns are assembled in the US but made of parts sourced from Brazil. They also have an internal lock near the mainspring housing.
Get a Colt made one baka.

Wut? Never had that problem with any GI style 1911s
