What was the Germans logic on inter-weaving wheels for the track?
>>32462189
It does look cool.
>>32462189
who cares they lost we won end of story kill this thread
>>32462189
It would make maintenance more difficult.
>>32462189
To more evenly spread the load among the length of the track to provide superior onnamud tracking.
There's a really good video on the tube about it I can't find it though.
Anybody have the WWII footage comparing tanks? I remember them testing the tank ability to climb slopes and run down trees. I think the wheel description was in there
>>32462201
lol
>>32462189
makes it harder for tank to throw a track, more evenly distributes weight and is generally a pain in the ass for maintenance
>>32462189
It helped distribute the weight of the tank better, with less pressure on the contact points with the ground and thus, better ground resistances.
Downsides were, hellish maintenance, having to take two or three wheels off to get at the broken one. God forgive if you want to get to the suspension.
Pros: It looks fucking awesome
See

>>32462241
It's called Schachtellaufwerk, btw.
>>32462259
Also some issues when it was freezing, with the wheels locking more easilty.

>who cares they lost we won end of story kill this thread
I bet the only reason the allies won because they had almost all of Europe vs germany the axis was not very good at helping one another italy was worthless Japanese would not help with the Russians i bet if the germany would have focused on the western front before the eastern they would have won world warll.
>>32462299
>they had almost all of Europe
LOL no they had Great Britain and the Soviet Union. What is
>Hungary
>Romania
>Bulgaria
>Slovakia
>Croatia
Germany lost because they had an Austrian peasant as their leader.

What did you win?
>>32462189
>>32463038
So what real life effect does this have? Is the benefit worth the added difficulties in maintenance?
>>32463167
helps when going over mud or other soft surfaces but to be honest it isnt worth it imo
>>32462212
but with marginally better armor protection though
>>32463477
Against guns that will penetrate the flank regardless.

Is this what you're looking for?
It shows the problems with the Sherman's suspension very well, one of its few real weaknesses
It is worth it in russia where you have vast plains of mud in some seasons + 50 tons of tank needs support
>>32462189
Because everything has to be state of the art ya!
more protection too
people entertaining the meme that it makes maintenance vastly more difficult have never changed a tire on their car
its not a huge deal to take a wheel off
>>32462189
Because lower ground pressure and German engineering.
>>32464951
You're an idiot
t. heavy equipment mechanic
>>32465020
At least they had just two rows with the Panther
Having to remove 9 other wheels in order to get one of the inner ones on the early model tigers was a real meme
>>32464951
Car wheels aren't made of solid steel.
>more protection
God you're stupid. Wheels would maybe add 10-20mm of effective armor. Maybe.
>>32462759
What did you win?
>>32462189
Looks sick as fuck. Easier to drive over bumpy road but also >>32463038
Germans didn't win the war but they sure won award for the sexiest machines.
>>32465160
Diversity.
>>32465084
>meme
You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

Tigers In The Mud is a good read. Despite the fact that the big cats were almost universally massively overweight and massively underpowered they were seriously agile vehicles thanks largely to their low ground pressure.
Of course, that's only when they were actually able to move in the first place.
