No.

PRS, 20 inch Krieger barrel, (dare I utter it's heresy) 2 stage trigger

Nothing else matters

>buying garbage
>>
>>32461018
Is that chrome lined? Yeah I was gonna go with either 18 or 20 inches. I figure 20 is the best for maximum utility, eh?
>>
>>32461035
20 gets you max velocity
chrome is dogshit for accuracy
best accuracy is no lining, no finish, but second best is nitriding
>>
>>32461035
why would you chrome line something if you want it to be as accurate as possible
>>
>>32461039
I didn't know chrome made accuracy worse. Are the Krieger barrels bare or nitride?
>>
>>32461049
>I didn't know chrome made accuracy worse

chrome is a coating which can not be guaranteed for consistency

>Are the Krieger barrels bare or nitride?

Bare
>>
>>32461040
I didn't know accuracy was crap. I was told it benefited longevity though. Should be fine without, and cheaper too.
>>
>>32461059
>why I post on k
>>
>>32461061
longevity of a bare barrel vs nitride or chrome is much worse, but accuracy is much better

Nitride is better than chrome for accuracy, but its usually more expensive
>>
>>32461069
I'm going to assume you mean that you're getting easy quick answers

1. spoonfeeding is frowned upon
2. I'm a gunsmith with a bunch of experience in the area, so you're lucky
>>
>>32461080
I'm not asking to be spoonfed. I've never built an AR before and I appreciate the advice. Honestly, k is the best place for tips. Most people here have extensive experience.
>>
>>32461072
>>32461039
I found this and it's a little less $$ than the Krieger barrel.

http://faxonfirearms.com/20-heavy-fluted-5-56-nato-rifle-length-416-r-stainless-steel-qpq-black-nitride/

Good? Or no? I was hoping to get accuracy and longevity.
>>
>>32461101
>I'm not asking to be spoonfed.

then why didn't you google it

> I've never built an AR before

There's 99999999999999999999999999999999999 posts and resources on the internet about AR building and you chose to ask instead of reading

> Honestly, k is the best place for tips

And you're lucky I was being nice

>Most people here have extensive experience

No they don't
It's because they did the research themselves

>it's totes as good, right XDDDDDDDDD
>>
>>32461116
1. you're a fucking idiot if you think cheap will be as good
2. fluting creates innacuracy
3. do your fucking research
>>
>>32461119
Well regardless, I do appreciate it. So thanks. I don't want to be one of those guys who believes everything on Google and then builds a shit rifle or waste money.

I didn't even know about chrome barrels. I'm as new to this as I can get. I did buy an Anderson stripped lower but that's as far along as I am.

>I didn't even know about chrome barrels. I'm as new to this as I can get.

then you need to spend a minimum of 50 hours reading about every barrel and following every link and manufacturer you come across for accuracy tests and reviews, and information

How do you think anyone here knows anything?
None of us can afford to spend that kind of money
We know because we read
>>
>>32461162
And I appreciate what you have done for me in sharing what you have learned. It's very helpful to be able to ask questions and get a response than it is to just read a 2-dimensional review a lot of times.
>>
>>32461171
Krieger isn't the best, but its' good

If you want better, you'll have to research, because I have no idea
>>
>>32461216
I've been on their website for a bit checking out what they offer. It seems like they have an excellent customer service department for sure.

As far as longevity, how much life can be had out of the rifling of a bare barrel? People have made it sound like after a few thousand shots that the barrel becomes a smoothbore.
>>
>>32461243
enough if you're not magdumping or using it for something other than absolute accuracy
>>
>>32461271
I read that it's the heat that kills the rifling. I also read that chrome accuracy is only about 1/4 inch at 100 yards. What about further? Is the slight difference in accuracy worth the extra barrel lifespan?
>>
>>32460990
I'm interrested in the same topic.
I've been looking for accurate AR-15 style rifle. I have short barreled AKS-74U for shooting up to 100 meters, so I've been loking for something like DMR/SPR for shooting up to 500 meters.

As I'm European, I have smaller range of rifles available for the price, I was willing to put.

So far, I've decided I want 20" barrel, free floating, Gas AR 15 in .223.
There are few options here, which seems good: DPMS, Oberland Arms, Hera Arms. Also there are some Piston ARs, which are more expensive. I'm not sure, that piston is worth 50% extra on the price.

I've few basic choices to make:
- .223 or .308 .223 is cheaper round and rifle is cheaper, ligher and parts are standard. There is some match ammo on the market.
On the other hand .308 gives more accuracy, more punch, bigger selection of match rounds and is major in IPSC.
- Gas vs Piston - gas seems to me as a inherently more accurate. Piston has (theoretical) benefit in reliability. But I'm not soldier and I clean guns frequently, so that shouldn't be the problem.
- 20" or shorter - 20 " barrel seems as best choice for long range precision shooting. Extra weight shouldn't be issure, unless Russians decide to visit us.

What do you think? Do you have any experience with these brands? What do you think about .223 vs .308 for longer ranges (100-500m)
>>
>>32461307
there is no chrome lined barrel that pulls a 1/4 inch at 100 yards
period
