In that case, as we (sort of) covered last thread, an SLR-104 is a 1983-spec AKS-74 but with a full folding stock instead of a triangle folder. If you're looking at Soviet-spec gear from the time of introduction, that puts you smack dab in the middle of the Soviet-Afghan War, so enjoy your mustard Afghanka.

Outside of that theatre, you're looking at the various TTsKO patterns and late-production sun-ray patterns.

Of course, nothing's stopping you from wearing digiflora when you go innawoods with an SLR-104. There's plenty of LGMs running around in Ukraine/Crimea right now with mid-80s AKS-74s and modern patterns.

Chinese rivets are diagonal, that's always the easiest for me because sometimes the angle of the pic makes it a little difficult to see a hooded front sight but it's usually pretty easy to see the rivets if the pic is half decent

That Albanian gun threw me for a loop, everything about it looked Chinese but I'm not aware of any stamped Chinese AKs without dimples so I was stumped

They're not nearly as hard to find as you're making them out to be. They pop up often enough but they sell quick. I've had the best luck with NOS true blacks buying from Russia and keeping the best. I'd say it's been 20% bfpu, 50% good-very good, and 30% very good+/NOS. buy a few and sell the ones that don't meet your expectations, that's what I've been doing.

I've only kept ten true blacks too, ten different mold numbers and the best condition I've gotten of those mold numbers (some still being rough) and the rest I've sold and will eventually put towards more true blacks. My short term mag goal is ten different true black mold numbers in VG+ or NOS condition, and my long term mag goal is as many different true black mold numbers in VG+ or NOS condition as I can find and afford. I buy a few from Russia, keep the ones in the best shape and then sell the rest. Im usually too late when they pop up on the files. I'm also a sucker for neat trench art but I'm always too late for them too when they pop up for sale.

Still no bakes though, IMO bakes only look good with wood and with the plum or black I've got its ugly

Sure you could change that, like I said you'd need to source parts and replace parts with proper 74M parts. It will be expensive and a hassle for purely minor cosmetic differences but it's still entirely possible if somebody was truly serious about it (which I for one am not)

Swapping a 4.5mm rear trunnion for a 5.5mm one isn't unheard of and there are a handful of guides online on how to do it. I'm not sure why anyone would pay to replace parts to 74M parts if they weren't willing to replace the rear trunnion as well, that's a total half ass thing to do.

Clean thoroughly with dish soap, blow out with compressed air. Bake it in oven at 450 for about 15-20 min (bare receiver of course). Any residual oil trapped will have bled out. Clean again. Go over with scotchbright. Wipe down one last time with alcohol. Paint. When it's dry, bake again.

Well, depends on the surface of the your rifle right now. I used scotchbright just to scuff it up and allow the new finish to adhere, but I should have stripped it completely or sanded more to get more of the old finish off, the previous finish was too thick in some areas. If it's just looking ratty but doesn't have a thick finish coat on it you should be able to get away with scuffing it. As far as paint, use something matte or low gloss finish. Doesn't have to be engine paint, you're gonna bake it on later anyway

I did it myself on my wasr. but thats the thing, it's a wasr. It's pants on head retarded to pay $200 to professionally coat a $500-600 rifle. That $200 could be much better spent on ammo or a better trigger. If you're rolling in money and want to do it just because, then fine, your money, but I rattle canned mine with engine enamel and it's good. Not perfect but thats not what I was aiming for anyways.
