Not an AK qeustion but...

Where can I get a decent VZ58/2008?

Because Atlantic Firearms is only selling the shitty all plastic 'Tactical' and i'm not rich enough to buy a czechpoint (which is going up in price again, yay.)

So there any place I can get my hands on a VZ with wood/steel furniture?

for a Century VZ2008, here is one for $650ish and all you'd have to do is buy the front upper and lower handguards from ebay and swap out for the plastic tacticool. pistol grip too, if you don't like the one on this gun.

also, gunwatcher dot com is your friend.
>>

Nah i have no need for fancy bayonet, for the right price possibly. Id rather buy mags and ammo atm
>>
>>32453249

I think I was just going to buy a bunch of 5.45 bakes with the cash anyway, I don't even really need a bayonet. I need more mags and ammo first too

how loud is an ak? could i shoot one in my yard without disturbing my neighbors inside a house about a quarter of a mile away?
>>
>>32454281
I would guess this is just gun store price gouging which was probably even easier before the days where everybody had the Internet in their pockets. You could probably order a spam can from a catalog for a good price or something.
>>
>>32454320
Loud. It depends which direction you're facing. They'll almost definitely be able to hear the shots but it wouldn't be loud enough to disturb me, whether or not it disturbs them is dependent on them and whether or not people in your area shoot on private land often, and also how many trees are between your houses to break up the sound, etc.

The last time I went shooting I could hear other people shooting from three different directions, it was great

Fairly good. The Arsenal Bulgaria 74s are made on Russian machinery and based on the Russian 1983 production variants. If you're looking to do an Afghan War clone, it's a pretty solid foundation.

Is there an official name for the AKS74s that the Russians have upgraded to AK74Ms?

They have all the AKS74 barrel components, gas levers, and sometimes ribbed top covers and faceted short collar brakes and other times smooth top covers and modern long collar brakes. Do the Russians have a specific designation for them?

I'm on my phone and have no pics of them with on it but I've got quite a few on my computer from Ukraine that if I remember I'll post some when I get off work.

Autistic levels of research in the process of planning my own Afghan era AKS-74. There's going to be a few small details that will be wrong when compared side by side to a Russian Izhmash AKS-74, most notably the stock (Bulgarian 4.5mm triangles have ribbed buttplates and occasionally rolled struts like the Tula 4.5mm triangle; Izzys have flat buttplates and straight struts). But, to your average derp at the range, the moment you put wood furniture on the front and a bakelite grip on (bakelite grips are accurate for 1983-spec rifles), you'll have something that's just gonna scream "Red Dawn/9 Rota" like I'm assuming you're going for.

There's some good info here if you're interested in learning more, but I warn you, historical AK building/cloning is a very, very deep rabbit hole: http://www.theakforum.net/forums/29-russian/149410-russian-vs-bulgarian-4-5mm-triangle-folder-questions.html#post1386957

>>32454890
In all likelihood ISIS is probably using mostly Russian AKMs and Type 3 AK-47s supplied to the Syrian army, in addition to Iraqi Tabuks. There's probably a smattering of other types like Yugos and Egyptian Maadis, but considering where they are (and who keeps dropping their shit and running), Russian and Iraqi guns are probably the most common.
>>
>>32454999
They just call them AK-74Ms.

>>
>>32455083
When did they switch to plum and triangle?
>>
>>32455142
86ish, started with shiny plum and by 88/89 they had transitioned to matte plum
>>
>>32455118
In all fairness I did give a source shortly after. Nick/Tantal in the post I linked is considered to be one of the most well-respected AK historians out there. Even Snickers gave him a shout-out on his Tula AK-74 video.

I'm also fairly sure the "Bulgaria uses Russian parts/machinery" bit is in the Kalashnikov Encyclopedia as well, but I don't own it so I can't confirm. I know someone here does though; maybe they can pull the appropriate scan.

>>32455142
Triangles from what I can tell have been around since the early days of the AK-74 since using a triangle folder makes it an AK*S*-74 (the paratrooper variant). As for plum, I'm not 100% sure since my build is an '83, but I remember reading up on the 1985 production variant and finding that those had plum grips but wood handguards that were "leftovers" from earlier AK-74 production variants. If I had to give a timeframe for when the Russians went full plum, late 1985/early 1986 would be the best bet.

Wondering if it would be worth it to just bide my time and see if an SGL-21-94 pops up...

>>32455333
A... Kobra? What's your budget?
>>
Alright turns out I can get a Saiga for either $700 shipped (possibly used) or $800 shipped (NIB) that is already rear converted.

Gunsmith quoted me $100 plus parts for the front conversion.

Should I go for that, or buy an SAR2 that is used for $700 + shipping? I will replace the Saiga with wood furniture and the SAR2 already has that.

Pic related is the one on AKfiles for $700 (would come with a standard stock that I would replace).

Basically is Saiga worth a couple hundred extra than an SAR2? I do have to say that the Saiga being Russian is appealing.

She's great

I've got all kinds of drawings and paintings she's done hanging all over my house, even before we were married and before we lived together I had a bunch of her stuff hanging up. I lack any of that kind of artistic talent, I studied music for 8 years and can proficiently play a dozen instruments but when it comes to drawing or painting or any of that then its stick figure tier garbage from me. I just can't do it and it's cool just watching her work on that stuff.

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/609281956
>>
>>32456240
Yes that's a VEPR. You can tell because of the bulge around the larger RPK front trunnion.
>>
>>32456213
Its very different, but the build quality on the veprs is leagues ahead of what the monkeys at cugir can churn out. Veprs are basically ak length rpks and should be treated as such. Unless you have something to prove its not gonna be very fun dragging it around
>>
>>32456240
>http://www.gunbroker.com/item/609281956
The main thing you'll need to know about this AK is that it's built a bit different than your standard AKM-pattern rifle. It uses an RPK trunnion, meaning that it cannot accept standard AK handguards. It also cannot hold a cleaning rod like a standard AK and has no bayonet lug. Additionally, the RPK design means it will have a heavier barrel than a standard AK and will feel heavier as a result when shouldered.

If you don't care about any of those things, it's probably going to be a solid gun. It's built like a tank and will hold up great. If you want to dress up your gun or run and gun with it, the Arsenal might better meet your needs.

Get and RS mount for your rail and put an optic on it, or get a Russian optic.

Since you're a bit new to the community I'll be a bit more lenient than the previous poster.
>1. Is there any left side charging ak's
No need for left side-charging AKs. If you're left-handed the system is INCREDIBLY friendly to you. Right-Handed over hand or under hand charging is something you'll have to get used to.
>2. What happened to parabellum armaments - where can I find their top rails
As the previous poster mentioned Parabellum Armaments went under business. They tried and failed to secure a govt. contract which was a big finanical blow. If you want a Top Rail System your choice are either Zenitco (very expensive) or Texas Weapon System (mixed reviews).
Following that up:
>5. What is the best suppressor, scope mount and scope for the ak
Not sure about the best suppressor since AKs have heavy actions, scope mount you can either go with RS Regulate for mounting optics or the Arsenal SM-13 picatinny side mount. RS Regulate makes very good low profile mounting options but is only a 1 item system. Arsenal's picatinny mount will give you many options however is much heavier. As far optics go there's a good variety of Combloc Red Dots or Scopes (Look at the PSOP 4x24 or PK-1 Red Dot) and US Made Optics come in the same variety (5.56 optics will work with 5.45x39, 300B/O will work with 7.62x39).
>4. What is the better of the ak platforms for hunting purposes/ accuracy purposes
7.62x39 will falls into the .30cal category for hunting
>6. Is there bolt hold open for the ak
Unfortunately there is no bolt hold open, but you can buy magazine followers that will allow temporary bolt hold.
>7. Will we ever see the ak5c, ak105, modern as on the us civilian market
Unless the sanctions change this likely won't happen unless another country manufactures a clone.

>Right-Handed over hand or under hand charging is something you'll have to get used to.
It's really not a big deal.
>>
>>32457381
>8. Why are the new galils considered to be so shitty
The new Galil AR are considered to be shitty because they offer little difference in accuracy for almost twice or even triple the cost of your standard AKs.
>9. What is the maximum effective point of aim for the ak? (All varians psl, 47, 74, etc.)
You mean Minute of Angle? It's generally regarded that AKs usually fall in the 2-3 MOA category. Most Military standards are such for nearly all countries (including the US).

Is it just me, or does that polymer folder have more of a droop to it than a standard 5.5mm? That's more like an SLR/4.5mm angle from that pic alone.

Do we know if any AKS-74s (as opposed to plan AK-74s) have been retrofitted to the AK-74M standard? If so, do the replace the entire rear trunnion or could they perhaps be modifying their polymer folders to fit a 4.5mm trunnion?

There's actually a picture floating around of a 74M with an original 45 degree gas block.

I'm almost positive Chimps was the one that posted it in /akg/

Flandre actually has his own theory on why we're seeing this https://www.reddit.com/r/ak47/comments/3k0pbo/remember_those_fake_ak74m_rifles_issued_to_the/

>inb4leddit
I only stumbled upon this because I was searching for more info about those "AK74M" rifles used in Crimea and noticed that Flandre had written about it.

Not that I necessarily believe it, as not issuing ammo would serve the same purpose and be much more simple logistically, but it makes for an interesting read.
