Well, after a hairy moment during Christmas, the /k/omanderette and I agree, our little negligent discharge is ready to move up from her Daisy to the real deal. Thinking of getting pic related for her birthday in April. She'll be 8 and a Cricket is already a bit small for her.

I figure cord wrap it a bit, make it a bit more comfy, and worst case scenario, if she doesn't like it (or once she graduates to centerfire)I can throw in in the truck as an emergency gun and I'm only out $160.

hello, children's services?

Not a bad gun to move up to. Also consider some combo guns--like a Rossi Matched Pair, Savage 24 (or 42), or Chiappa Double Badger. There's also the option of a decent bolt-action--maybe a Ruger American Rimfire Compact. Other classics include lever-action 22's.

You can get a Savage Rascal single-shot for about the same price and it won't be a piece of crap.

I bought one recently in .22LR so here's my mini review

The build quality is exactly what you would expect for the price but luckily the action is solid, the plastic bits, including the sights feel cheap though. The trigger is very good, mine breaks predictably, and with no creep whatsoever.

I took mine out shooting in the cold (-25C/-13F) and the metal wire stock gave me a bit of a "cold burn" on my cheek so I will probably end up wrapping it in paracord. I was a little worried one of the plastic parts might break because of the cold but nothing like that happened.

It does fit in a regular backpack when you fold it which is the primary reason I bought it.

One thing to keep in mind that that little bit of rail behind the trigger is not the proper picatinny rail, it's a bit narrower so it doesn't fit any pistol grip except for the one chiappa sells for it.

nigga you gay as fuck

I got my first gun, a .22, for my fifth birthday. I'm 27 now and have never had any type of firearms related accident.

>>
>>32449067
I second this. My first gun was a single shot .22 and it instilled in me a love of bolt action firearms, including shotguns. Plus the single shot aspect is safer for a kid
>>
>>32448920
I live in the gunshine state, we're already in hot water with DCF because she doesn't have a gun already.

>>32448977
Honestly, if I even find a Rossi set, a double badger or an M6, I'm getting it for me.

The gun stores around here are... Well, local gun stores. Anything that isn't on the shelf will damn near cost double the msrp in "fees"

We both decided to set a budget of about 200-225, because beyond that for a 22, we might as well wait another year or so and get her something nice, like a Henry.
>>
>>32448874
i got my 9 year old a Mossberg Plinkster for Christmas. It's mostly plastic, so he can handle it better than he can my all-wood Marlin. Quality isn't superb or anything, but he really likes it. Only having one magazine keeps him from blowing through the ammo,

>>32448874
don't get that, it's ugly as sin

my first gun was a Savage Mk II, I'd definitely go for that. Very accurate out of the box and is already drilled for a scope
>>
>>32448874
I have one and I like it. Good way to teach conservation of ammunition with only 1 shot. Can get a little boring after a while though.

Also, sights are cheap plastic.. but you can throw an airsoft red dot or scope on it and have fun. I've seen some cool projects done with it as well.

I'd say go for it.
>>
>>32448874
Dude, if she doesn't like that gun, she's probably not into guns.

I'm into guns and I think it's a ridiculous crappy ergonomic nightmare.
>>
>>32448874

Get her a .22 with a wood stock. That shit looks tacticool as fuck with those rails. That wood aesthetic atleast makes the gun look less intimidating for babbys first gun.
>>
>>32448874
Get her a Savage Mark II. They can be found for 200 bucks or less easily. Best .22 bolt gun out there this side of the CZ 455 imo. The stocks arent too long and so long as you stay away from the heavy barrel models the guns are pretty light too.
>>
>>32449332
Where do all these pictures of young girls looking awkward with guns come from?
They always look like they're forced into it by a father stuck in the 1800s. The type of teens that went to school without an iPod of flip phone back in my day, because their parents thought electronics were all tracking devices.

Not a good representation of gun culture.
>>
>>32453153
>stay away from the heavy barrel models
Hell, if she mostly shoots from a bench (and at that age she should be) the heavy barrel might be an advantage. If the only time she's carrying it is in a case with a strap, the weight is fine, and might help tame the recoil further (again, for an 8yo girl).

Looks sweet enough.
Have you considered an AR-7?
Henry also makes some really sweet lever action .22s, but I don't know if they make them in child sizes.

They do.
>>
>>32453364
My sister has a henry .22 it's an awesome gun and they do make a short length of pull version of it.

I guess it would take a little effort to teach a kid to shoot it since it has no safety except for half cock, I think a kid might have some trouble letting the hammer down gently on it plus it might be tricky to load for a kid without pointing the muzzle in directions it shouldn't be pointed in.

In conclusion it's an awesome gun but I would wait until your kid is at least a teenager.

>>
>>32448920
I hope you're calling them on your parents because they raised a bitch.
>>
>>32454190
There is such a thing as "too minimalist", and that crosses the line with a full sprint.
>>
ITT:
people that hate novelty
>>
>>32454209
Guns should be practical. The Little Rhino sacrifices tons of quality and practicality for its novel minimalism.

Plastic fucking rails and round clips. Non-retracting ejector. Open action when "folded". Bare wire stock with a non-pic rail right behind the trigger. Doesn't actually fold up that compact. Has a similar price as other decently designed .22s.
>>
>>32454264
Not everything needs to be practical, anon

>>
I would go with a 10/22.
I'm sure it's not hard to find a stock that will fit her with all the aftermarket parts around and when she grows it'll remain one of the best .22 rifles available.
If you want single shot just load 1 bullet at a time in the mags
>>
>>32454353
why are you so mad anon
>>
>>32454190
>minimalist
>shitty proprietary rail system
>offering an option for pistol grip
>rail for adding a sight
Do you know what minimalist means?
>>
>>32453232
Those pics are from Oleg Volk. He's specialized in pictures of gun owner that are supposed to look modern and appealing, but instead end up being a bit creepy.
His pictures captioned with pro gun propaganda are also cringe tier.
>>
>>32453014
You should see what her bb gun looks like. Despite being a lever action, you could describe it as Toy Box Tacticool. It has a sling and cheekpiece that she made out of yarn and felt, a cheapo flashlight taped to the barrel, and (we helped on this one) a folding bipod. Anything we get her will end up looking at least a bit Tacticool after a while. I'll try to snap a pic when I get home.

>>32453364
The ar7 is another one that's hard to find without ordering, otherwise there would already be one in the safe.

We've noticed she likes lever actions and break action singles.
She can handle her mothers 10/22, but if given the choice, she would rather shoot her cousins golden boy or my brothers Handi. My brother in laws kid has a small bolt action that she has shot a few times, but after a few rounds she seems to lose interest. On the other hand, anything break or lever action she'll shoot until her arms give out.

You're picking nits, it's pretty minimalist for a production firearm.

I bought a Buckmark Camper SS as my first gun purchase. I really quite like the weight for it and it feels really nice even though I'm left-handed.

Also the trigger is gold plated and looks dope as fuck.
