>can't have a shotgun that is less than 18" barrel length or 26" overall length without a tax stamp
>Taurus Judge is shorter than that and is not an NFA item even though it shoots shotgun shells
Why is this?
>>32441893
Rifled barrel
>>32441893
Exemption
>>32441898
So can you have a sawed off with a rifled barrel then without tax stamp?
>>32441899
What's that mean? If you had a 12 gauge judge would that be ok? Or did they say it's ok because it's small?
>>32441916
Nothing. The other guy is right, the Judge has a rifled barrel so it's just a handgun.
Funny that you mention a 12GA because since 12GA shotguns have a bore larger than .50" they should be destructive devices, but the ATF gives them a sporting use exemption. At least, the ones they like (see Streetsweeper).
>>32441943
Don't some shotguns have rifled barrels though?
>>32441943
The Judge is not a handgun because of a rifled barrel.
It's chambered in 45 colt and is lonmg enough to fire 410. The chambering matters.
>>32441893
Gun salesman here
The Taurus judge is a .45lc revolver with a cylinder long enough to chamber .410 shotshells in the eyes of the ATF
It has a bore diameter smaller than .50caliber so it is not a destructive device and has a rifled barrel so it isn't a short barreled shotgun or AOW
Any larger shotgun caliber would have to meet the 18" barrel, 26" overall length requirement
Any larger modern cartridge ammunition firearm would have to have a bore diameter under .50" and a barrel length of 16" to not be a destructive device or SBR.

>>32441893
Because it's a .45/70 handgun with a rifled barrel that just so happens to be able to shoot .410 shells.
>>32442043
Better known as Slug-guns, but yeah.
That being said they're meant almost only for slug loads.
I don't know what the consequences are for shooting birdshot/buckshot out of a rifled barrel, but I can imagine it's not fun.
>>32441893
because the NFA defines a shotgun as having been originally been designed with the ability to be fired from the shoulder.
The asylum arms defender is another good example of an NFA loophole firearm.
If you actually read the NFA you'd know how horribly written and how misguided it is.
>>32442043
they do, helps maintain a little bit of accuracy at the extremes of slug ranges
>>32442272
http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-truth-43-buckshot-in-a-rifled-shotgun-barrel/
the only downside i can see is that rifled barrels might not accept chokes
>>32442417
The asylum arms gatekeeper isn't using a loophole. It's at least 26" so it isn't considered concealable, and hence isn't AOW. It's not an SBR because it doesn't have a stock.
So it's neither a pistol nor an AOW, it's simply an unclassified firearm.
>>32442254
the judge/governor is chambered in .45 colt/.410 and .454 Casul, not .45-70
>>32442485
>454 casul
>taurus
fucking what. there is no way those are safe to shoot
>>32442472
Wew lad. I guess I get the mentality of asylum, but 9 bills? I made mine from a 20" pgo and 14" 590 front end kit. Bout $550 total, and recouped some by selling the take off parts from the 20".

>Gun salesman here
Good reason not to listen to anything you say.
>>32442272
They cause the pellets to spin through the barrel causing an extremely wide pattern on target.
The same reason those rat shot 9x19 cartridges CCI makes don't retroactively reclassify every 9x19 handgun as a shotgun.
Taurus maintains that the Judge was designed as a conventional rifled handgun that is chambered in .45 Colt. It's just that it can also fire .410 as a supplementary round.
But that's totally not what they designed it to do from the beginning, pinky promise ;^)
>>32441893
Chambered in 45LC, officially. Being able to shove .410 in it is just a bonus even though their marketing tells you it's exclusively a shotgun pistol.
>>32443044
You mean off target. The spin turns your pattern into a big circle meaning you'll hit literally everything except what you're aiming at.
>>32442767
Explaining why not to put rifle buffer tubes on their 12" upper AR pistols or bandsaw down Thier granpappies double barrel past 18.1" is part of the job m8, hosing suckers like you is just a bonus.
>Show on the doll where the gun salesman touched you.jpg
>>32442747
Yeah do not do this. I have sime powder burns on my retina from shooting a 454 from a .45 that was bored for 454 in a shed. It didn't even last one shot. Just burst open.
>>32443928
>Powder burns on your retina
Anon, you might want to read up on the anatomy of the eye before you go spouting bullshit
>>32443994
I mean the surface of the eyeball. I ain't a fucking doctor.
>>32442056
No, it does not.
>>32443044
4 4
4 4
4 4
44444
>>32444287
So I see you have forgone wearing shooting glasses and instead fashioned shooting cataracts
>>32443994
Someone who shoots a .454cas from a gun chambered for .45LC can not be that smart.
>>32444618
Hey fuck you it fit in the chamber perfectly after we bored the chamber longer.
What are the lowest recoil .410 shells I can get for the Judge? My elderly mother wants to shoot snakes, but 3 in. #4 shot has too much recoil.
>>32441893
Now you know why length laws are absolutely pants on head retarded and need to be done away with.
Is there an NFA thread floating around currently? I need to ask some suppressor questions
>>32442485
Governor is .410, 45 colt, .45 acp
If it was never designed to be fired from the shoulder, the ATF does not consider it a shotgun.
