the tone mismatch and the optics are also ugly. It's really just not a good-looking gun.

Handguard needs to be black to balance the rifle visually, and personally I would replace the sights with something a little less pretentious. I don't think OP is going to need to operate quite that hard at the high school parties he still crashes.

It experiences thermal drift a temperature threshold lower than its competitors. To exacerbate the issue, Eotech lied about the acceptable temperature range and admitted to it when called out by the Feds. They offered full MSRP refunds on all of their HWS' going back quite a few years.
