How good are Tantal AKs? Outside of having the most uncomfortable looking stock, they decent, or should I save my money and get the SLR-104?

Is there anyone actually selling slr107 variants anywhere? Or is second hand my only option?

The WASR-10 isn't the greatest, but it's the best cheapest AK you can get that you can free beat up on.

I couldn't help myself, managed to take it apart and put it back together.

Interestingly the early style is more along the lines of a Calico mag (helical on the inside of the housing rather the like an auger in the center)
>>
>>32437795
So if I were to get a pre-built, what should I look for? Or should I just not bother and stick with SLR-104s?

Tantals? Don't know, I don't think they are still making them so we aren't getting them. If you want a Polish gun I THINK we still get the Beryl as a converted sporter.

Looks like my autocorrect was a little off but yeah anyway those that aren't correct like the ttl and the y prefix sub 2000 all have 5.56 barrels. I had a keyholing tantal so I looked into it a lot. I could still miss some though. Bidding on a ttl-c prefix right now that should be good to go

They sell Red Army Standard 60gr 5.45 as well but I've heard very mixed stuff about that ammo.

Personally I'm trying to save up enough gift cards to go buy a Trijicon RM06 for my Glock at a low price. Cabela's prices them at about $600, but if I keep buying cards when they're 15-20% off I'll get it for well under street pricing.

Well for starters you'll notice the big engraving on the side that says "MADE IN BULGARIA".

It's a solid gun, just make sure you're getting one outside of the SN range that had the critical paint issues. Beyond that you're basically getting a Bulgarian AKS-74N with a shitty-feeling US-made FCG that can be easily replaced with an ALG AKT trigger.

Why the Hell is 5.45 ammo so expensive? I'm tempted to start reloading solely due to these ridiculous prices. Where do I find cheap ammo? I'm not shooting at long ranges, so I don't give too much of a shit about accuracy.

Anyway, it's expensive because it's relatively uncommon in the US. If you buy online and in bulk it's still cheaper than steel-cased .223 though.
>>
>>32442011
You can reload 5.45 just fine. It's just much harder to get the necessary equipment. I have Russian friends, so I personally can get it though.

What's the price on them now? My WASR was $500 and the Arsenal was $1000. The WASR's great; it has the least canted sights between all of them, no issues, and you don't have to worry about scratching/dinging your rare gun.

If you want a 5.45 go with Arsenal but if you want 7.62 go WASR(unless they're $700+ now -- then I'd get a maadi or mak90 for the same price)

A year ago, $800 was a good price
2 months ago, $800 was a good price
Today, based on speculation, it's too much for that partially converted Saiga.

You'll still have to get the holes welded up in the rear (probably $50-$75), and if it's like every other RWC, you still need to get the front end done, which is about another $400 in parts and labor, give or take.

You're looking at $1200-$1300 for a properly converted rifle and that's if you have a local builder that you can trust. That's probably going to be what SGLs go for in the event sanctions get lifted, and based on the relationship of the President Elect, as well as the new Sec of State, they're almost guaranteed to be lifted.

SLR104s are great if you save up the cash.
If you have to have Russian, wait a few months to see if the sanctions end.
If you don't really care either way, and want something right now, pick up a WASR, PSA Gen2 AK or DDI.

Factory 10 began producing 74 rifles in 1984 and began producing 5.45 ammo in 1985, but I don't know for sure when Bulgaria exactly started producing mags. I've got some small trench art on one of my black (10)s (just a small very faint word and a large but faint 5 digit number on the other side) so they're definitely out there. Hatchet was also a book that left a huge impression on me, so even though I was confused, my previous statement still stands.

... Thanks for correcting me.

Hey /akg/ what is the year that wasr's stopped being shoddy? There's a show coming up and I plan on looking for one, want to make sure I get one of the good ones and I legit cant find any fucking dates anywhere.
>>
>>32448689
I don't believe in buying anything other than steel mags so I should be good
>>
>>32449088
Is that zenit handguard? Looks nice on your gun
>>
>>32451134
pretty much all the ones that have the mag braces are good (look for like 4 dots on each side where it was welded on)
also look for non-squished rivets
>>
>>32451302
Alright thanks m8, so there's no rough date for when they upped their qc?
>>
>>32451331
I think it was around 2008 or something
If you go and buy a new one you probably won't have a problem
Just ask if you can put a mag in to check for mag wobble along with the usual inspection.
I purchased one a few weeks ago and it looks almost like new, just a few clumps of cosmoline in the gas tube which took seconds to clean out and some metal shavings from a freshly machined bore.
My cleaning rod doesn't screw into the rifle though but I'm not sure if there was any threads to screw into though, it's just kind of in the slot and held on with the little clip thing that the tip of the rod fits in. so don't be worried if you can spin the rod.
>>
>>32451331
In red is the mag brace and in blue are the weld marks
>>
>>32451288
Good. Since you cited that fuddlore, I assumed you exclusively bought Magpul.
>>
What's a half decent AK with a reasonable cost? I've heard US manufactured AKs are shit.

These any good?

is now a bad time to buy an ak? most of the forum posts in 2015 say the wasrs cost around $500 but they are like $700 now on all the websites. what caused the price to go up? any chance of them going back down to $500 in the near future?

Military orders. Cugir doesn't exist just to fill the shelves with Century guns, you know.

so should i just wait and buy one in like 6 months or something? are the arsenal prices inflated too? is there any chance of trump removing the sanctions on russian guns?

You could try. Election years always fuck things up.

Yes

Maybe. I'm not sure why the president has this power in the first place.
