Start with a matched receiver set if your already familiar with the AR. Get the set from rainier, have them turn on the barrel nut for you and you know how legos the rest of it is.

You can start with prebuilt too. Depends what you want to do, and if a prebuilit will get you pretty much there or not.

Price on SCARs is already coming back down from the stratosphere. A few months and youll likely see 2750 and lower again, $3k is already possible to find.

PTR is fine if you want a cheap rifle, but dont really want to modify it. Well I mean you can, but it makes the SCAR aftermarket look reasonably priced.

The FAL is fine, more parts out there to change shit around. Main problem is that DSA is your only option on some parts, and they can be hit and miss. They do stand behind their products, but I personally loathe having to send shit back to get fixed.

The AR-10 is simulatniously the cheapest and most expensive battle rifle to get into, depends which market segment your in.

The real question is how soft will the MSR market get? AR prices keep falling, and the big online sellers are really dropping prices. That tells me that rifles are sitting round while days tick off the net30 terms. Place like CDNN seem desperate to move MSRs. We're now seeing some ARs down in the $500 range. AR10 handguards have different heights and mount on different barrel nuts. Almost everyone uses DPMS high though. Small Frame AR10s exsist that use AR15 parts, but those are generally sold as full rifles.

Its a smaller market for the .308 world, but plenty of stuff is out there. Can go full aero if you dont want to do any looking around.

Hey, /brg/, I really wanna be a part of your club and I wanna do that by owning an FAL. At first I thought I wanted to do a homebuild of one but Im not really gonna have access to the space/tools I'd need and it seems that doing so would only cost marginally less than buying one from DSArms.

So, my question is: is the SA58 shit or should I buy one? I wouldnt necessarily mind the idea of sending it back once if wasnt working perfectly right out of the box. Has anybody here owned an SA58 variant that can impart some wisdom?

DSA is mid tier at best. They cut a lot of corners but still have high MSRP simply because they don't have competition. If you're will to sacrifice quality for a warranty, then I'd say go for it. If not, then I'd recommend looking at kit builds.

.308 is great and all, but what are my options for going... bigger?
All I'm seeing is minor improvements from handloaded 7.62x54R, .30-06, and 8mm Mauser - and there are extremely few rifles to choose from in those chamberings to boot. Then we just jump straight to .50 BMG which is by no means a "battle rifle".

Couple things here.
VEPR is the model, Molot is the manufacturer. Zavasta is nothing. Valmet and Zastava are both manufacturers. The models are M78 and M76 respectively, but the M76 is actually an AKM clone like the Galil. It comes in 8mm Mauser, not 7.62x54r. AWO, a US manufacturer, makes .30-06 M76s.
