What's good about it? It's not more firepower than a Glock with 30 round mag but it's bulkier and heavier. I don't like them but they're better than a mac-10 or whatever. So there's that.
>>
>>32422444
poor ergos and can be unreliable depending on your specific gun.
i dont have a tec 9, its a mint arms ap9 which is close enough anyway. before i broke the extractor it was a pain in the ass to shoot. now it just sits in my safe until i can get it fixed
>>
>>32422458
That sucks, thinking about getting one or a 6-8" barrel revolver
>>
>>32422461
its a cool looking novelty, but id think you be better served by pretty much anything else.
i'd go with the revolver for sure.

I got one, works pretty damn well. It's made of shit plastic and sheet metal though, it's not gonna last forever. I mainly got mine because they're iconic and it was cheap ($250 otd)

I bet if someone manufactured TEC-9 clones with higher quality plastic and steel, they'd sell pretty damn well.

Now to answer your question, op. They were made by the founder of kel-tec, and they were manufactured by a company that was pretty much proto-keltec.
>>
>>32422641
nice iver johnson fampai
>>
>>32422831
Was that the issue? Crappy materials?
>>
They offer zero advantage over a typical 9mm pistol. They only sold well in the early 80s because CZ-75s and Browning High Powers were much more expensive, and because open bolt ones could be converted to full auto easily for the ultimate ghetto blaster.
>>
>>32422841
Thanks man, I paid $10 for it
>>
>>32422848
I'm not 100% sure, but imo the pistol looks fine from a design standpoint. Also, most kel-tec guns are also fine from a design standpoint, but are made from cheaper quality materials. There's a reason they're called kel-kek

enjoy your $1k swiss tec9.
>>
>>32422883
>set-up company in usa
>make tec-9 clones from non-sheet metal steel and decent plastic
>charge $400-$300
>csgo fanboys and other vidya fans eat them up

I've seen people buy glock 26s over other pistols because it's the glock in csgo. These kids are insane and will spend thousands of dollars on gun textures.
>>
>>32422917
US companies are only interested in making more ar-15 clones.
>>
>>32422453
because when they came out they were cheap as fuck open bolt "pistols" that were really sub machineguns that a slight sear modification would "accidentally" shoot full auto made from melted down VCRs.

intratec had a weird hateboner for making bombastic ATF asshurt causing nigger arming firearms. same thing with cobray.
>>
>>32422926
That's true, and it's a damn shame. If I ever opened a gun manufacturing company, I'd probably commission a medium-sized game studio to make a game featuring my company's guns. It'd be a symbiotic relationship, with my guns advertising their game and their game advertising my guns.
>>
>>32422652
I get it.
>>
>>32422848
mediocre at best magazines and really rough everything. when kellgren left to create keltec his partner who was let in charge cut even more corners in manufacturing to attempt to make profit cause the awb was killing them
>>
>>32422641
>>32422863
$250? niiice. and holy shit $10? whats the stoy behind that?
>>
>>32422933

Are the open bolt ones legal to own still?
>>
>>32423168
bump
>>
>>32423140
Was at a gun show, and saw it buried behind some tauruses and I asked some questions about it and the man said it was totally fucked. He said the timing was off, and the trigger didn't work. Well, after just playing with it for a minute I could tell he didn't know anything about it. I asked him how much and he said he'll do $10 cause it's junk. Well, $10 and about a week of cleaning later, I have a functional .38s&w 2nd model automatic safety hammerless. I think mine was made in 1897 but im not sure.
>>
>>32423193
wew i need to go to gun shows and catch me soem nice deals, too bad im only 18 and half new to all this
>>
>>32423168
yes, but it isn't legal to manufacture new open bolt firearms.

if you are just looking for illegal cheap full retard make sure your AR has an M16 BCG and a low shelf lower, then make a tactical bottle opener and hope you never get caught
>>
>>32423168
No. Not unless you register the bugger and pay the $200 stamp tax analagous to the one that our ancestors rebelled against.

I'm having trouble keeping the outside of my Henry's barrel rust free. You?
>>
>>32422444
Cheap materials (Zamak for internal parts, think hotwheels metal)

Brittle plastic (the frame will literally begin cracking if you shoot anything heavier than 124gr ammo)

Bad QC (sights are known to be crooked and offset)

Bad fit and finish (loose and rattly, also can't handle reloaded ammo or certain brands)

Really shitty magazines (even a little bit of dirt will make them seize up)

>>32422856
>>32422933
>open bolt
Very few of the KG9 pistols were made, fewer than the KG99 ones, the notion that the Tec-9 was often converted to full-auto so easily is likely vastly exaggerated.

>>32423168
Yes, old open-bolt semi-autos are exempted, but this also makes them collectible, expect to pay a couple thousand for a KG9

Also, know that just because they're exempted, it doesn't mean they'll let you convert it, that's still illegal without the right paperwork.

>>32423208
Goddammit Phil, it's Christmas Eve, can you PLEASE not be a retard for once in your life?
