Are drones effective enough on the battlefield to have a personal one for shtf situations? I've heard they are real effective in the field for scouting enemy positions, intel gathering to formulate a battle plan.

Drones are the shit. Look up all the off the counter drones in Syria and Ukraine. Only a few hundred bucks can get you a drone and the possibilities are endless.

Note the video is a Russian drone but a lot of Ukrainian civilian groups have been manufacturing, flying and handing over intelligence.

I was thinking about getting a DJI mavic pro and modding it so it can go past 5 miles. When you dont wanna be seen and want to know whats around you can get a huge upperhand. I'll add it to the bag.

Kinda fun toys, good for light intel shit. Won't do you any good in a real situation as they basically throw out a strong "Hey everybody with a frequency counter, I'm over here" signal and they are stupid easy to jam or hack.

Fucking maintenance you cock monglers. It'll be okay until it breaks and you can't fix it. Then you're fucked, just like every autist and unicorn round fetishist out there after SHTF.

If you want to live through a SHTF scenario get a 12 gauge and a 9mm. Make sure they're simple and reliable, then practice with them. Obviously, you also need a lot of other supplies too, but we're only addressing the /k/ aspect here.

The problem with having one drone is that you'll reveal your location when you retrieve it. Disposable drones might be useful. Especially if they explode.

Cool shit doesn't keep you alive. Practical shit does. Get a 12 gauge in 2 3/4", an AR-15 in .223, and some reliable pistol in 9mm. Those rounds are the most common so after SHTF they'll take the longest to run out. More important than anything else is being in shape, and having good cold weather clothing and some supplies for the first month. After that everything else is gravy.

not him but the electronics are not that fragile. Think "nokia phone", not smartphone. If you manage to fry it then you majorly fucked up. Some misc shit on the board like capacitors can be ghettoed in from other scrapped electronics, even if it's hilariously improperly size, as long as you match the specs

Ok, here is some real-world info from someone who actually owns and flies a few UAV, since some people here seem confused:

>Drones are loud. Like, seriously. 1500ft up and 1200 ft out it sounds like a swarm of bees.
>ANYTHING in the sky is going to be easy to spot and track, unless it's a dark color and your flying at night with no lights on your UAV.
>Current tech limits battery life to around 20minutes at best under ideal conditions
>These things are STUPID easy to hack into, easy to jam or disable, and an infant could detect the signal and track it's origin.
>Quad types are generally not super fast. Like maybe 55mph top speed under ideal conditions for the top of the line kit, and that high speed is going to kill battery life.
>If your UAV is hidden from sight, so is whatever your trying to see.
>getting shot out of the air is a very REAL possibility and something that happens to drone operators fairly regular.

None of this is to say Drones aren't useful, cause they are, but know the limitations. Just like a .22lr is still useful but your not going to use it as a combat rifle.

Do some research instead of just arguing on 4chan. Many of the points addressed in this thread are actually pretty common knowledge among people who actually fly. Here is a good starting point:

The EW is differently a problem. However in these conflicts there are so many drones in the air from both sides that a number do get through. Also those jammers can't be everywhere and they can't always be on. The US if flying RQ-4 Global-hawks and are sucking up data and tracking these systems. The Ukrainians also target these systems. There is actually a Ukrainian drone video if it coordinating an artillery strike on a compound with one of these systems in it.

Not the video but Ill keep looking for it. But something noticable in the video is that before the drone even took off the radios were jammed.

Overlay that many warheads on the Middle East, and they could go off without unduly annoying rest of world.
>>
>>32416961
For shtf, I could see drones being useful for a couple of different scenarios-

1- scouting your route, for when you're moving a number of people. You'll need a dedicated drone operator, and, ideally, a dedicated transport method which allows the operator to do his magic on the move. Motorhome or pickup with a shell come to mind.

2- as one of the outermost sensors for a base/BOL. Send the drone out to check status of mechanical ambushes or telltales. If possible intruders are detected, use the drone to monitor their progress.

You can also use a drone to practice some misdirection. Bring it home via roundabout means, instead of straight line. That way, if somebody spots it they don't get a direct bearing to your location.
>>
>>32425827
>>32427580
Lul, when I was in Afghanistan we used a small Raven drone and it was ok. Not super reliable and it would constantly go out of range and land. Also the video quality while good would still cause things like large bushes to look like a hole or cave. For us it was a stupid toy we would use once in a while to help us land nav. That said drones have gotten a lot better since then and if you have something that has a long range, quality video and can hover you do have a great device to scout locations before you insert and to monitor rival troop activity as long as they don't have a counter.

If the comment were worthy of an argument I could have given one, but it's so colossally retarded that I don't want to dignify it with an actual response.

Insurgents are dumb as fuck. If /k/ was physically in shape and had the mental fortitude to deal with combat I'm sure it would put hajji battalions to shame.

First one.

Boards aren't hard to make yourself, and there's enough books on how that anyone can learn.

Using other boards? Laughably easy. Even then, there's even *more* books on how to do that. Hell, children can do it, and children are being taught to do it.

Second point.

The fact that you suggest .223 instead of 5.56 means you have no idea what you're talking about. You should honestly kill yourself.

Maybe not personal, but like fire-team or squad level, sure

It's like hunting hogs from a helicopter.

>Including all the electronics?
Yes I solder parts 2mm x 2mm in size and BGA mount with no pins. The way to do it is hot air soldering. A computer cpu or gpu is difficult because they have 500+ connections spread over several cm. It's difficult to heat it evenly by hand and there's no way to check if every connection was soldered correctly.

If you stockpiled parts and soldering supplies you could build drones, remote turrets and many things for years without any trouble. Consumer grade equipment is better than what the military have, procurement and military approval is very slow. The only exceptions would be advanced communications and thermal imaging, you can't buy some of those.

Congratulations, you're far more competent than me. Electronics are black magic.

Marginally effective for post-SHTF. You won't have very good real time vidya,so you'll be seeing old information on your computer with anything recorded.
With the limited flight time, you may be better sending scouts, although scouts in tandem with a drone could be huge. If you knew someone was out watching you, putting eyes over/behind them would be great, but that would let them know you had that capability. That might make you a sweeter target.
My 2 biggest SHTF fears are an EMP or a pandemic. If an EMP were to hit,do you have a faraday cage to protect your electronics?

It's not all work all the time. Adventure is good for the soul.

You need to put a gun on it, dogfighting birds will be the sport of the future.

You're welcome to share a meal.
I sell drones and random electronic crap that looks like garbage but still works better than Chinese.

I don't know how far away you are and it's none of my business, but take one of these radios in case you ever need help or get attacked. I'm a fair carpenter so hit me up.

I WOULD really appreciate it if you could let me know about anyone being aggressive and hostile, I really have no time for that behaviour and I'll gladly drive them away.

>oh hey cool I'm also not an asshole let's be friends.
Awesome!
Uh, I really hope you know some women.
>no
Oh... fine then, but no homo.
>of course!
