Hey /k/, took my mom shooting as her Christmas present. It was also my first time shooting and I landed my first shot on target and followed it up with the rest as shown in pic related.
The RO said it was really impressive for a first-time shooter. Target was at 5 yards. I did it with a springfield XDM. RO also didn't believe it was my first time shooting. Is it actually a good group? Did all those years playing ww2 vidya finally paid off irl?
P.S. Mom loved it, wants to take Dad. Hopefully I can use this to finally buy a surplus raifu once I get back from uni next june.
Yeah that's pretty good for a first timer.
>>32410573
>first timer
That's really very excellent.
>>32410573
That's awesome.
You DID keep the target so you could plaster it on the front of the fridge, didn't you? Or better yet, the side of your cubicle so you can freak out all your libturd coworkers.
>>32411828
we kept all three targets.
RO was also impressed at my sister and at my mom. My sister got a couple through the same hole with the XDM too.
This is my group for a .223 dopey looking ar we borrowed. Top part is at 15 yards and bottom at 12.
My siter got to shoot 11 at the same target at 10 and 15 I think and she kept them all inside the head.
>>32411934
>>32411828
forgot pic
the ar had a holo sight, I wanted to shoot with ironsights but the only rifle left with iron sights was an m1a socom that the clerk and myself agreed on not being an ideal first rifle too shoot. The mag on that thing was huge compared to the AR's
>>32411959
Lovely. Keep practicing until the groups are the size of tennis balls. Then back up ten yards. then keep practicing. You'll find tin cans are ideal for this, if you can find a place innawoods. They give you immediate BING!1!1!!!! vidya game style feedback.
>>32410573
>5 yards
I'm sorry, is your carer there?
go take your meds and have a lie down.
People are actually falling for this. Does anyone here actually shoot? The is no way a first timer did this never mind all of his rookie family members doing the same come on.
>>32412653
It's at 5 meters.
>>32412653
I mean, I think the pic in the OP was the tightest group during the session. My mom's and my sister's was close too.
Also, might have been this: >>32412710
RO said it was a good distance to start with a handgun
>>32410573
>5yards
Why not just shoot it pressed contact?
>>32412783
whats good beginner handgun range then? 10? 15?
>>32412710
And its better than most people you see at the range who shoot often which is why I'm inclined to believe OP is full of shit
>>32412800
50 m / 55 yards
>>32412833
bro the range isn't even half of that
>>32412809
its ok anon, I don't need you to believe me, my mom knows I've never shot, and the RO saw me doing it which is all I need
>>32412800
25m
>>32412847
go outside and do it faggot!
>>32412883
Look closer at the OP pic, I wish I could
Commissar Brown and the party congres- I mean state legislature won't let me
>>32412913
fuck the law
just load your rounds with socks on
>>32412860
Well... Not ALL you need, since you posted here. But good job, anyway.
You'll get worse as you start to develop bad habits. Great start, don't get frustrated when you find your groups getting worse.
>>32410573
This was my first time shooting
OP I'm really sad now
>>32414427
how far was the target at anon?
>>32417114
I forget... it was pretty close, though. The guy instructing me was sorta face palming
16 ft?.. I think
>>32410573
>target was five yards
Get over yourself, that is to be expected of a new shooter at that range
>>32417119
maybe the guy instructing you was shit?
The RO that instructed me and my family told us to pull the trigger slowly, and that we had our left hand wrong etc
>>32417146
what about this anon then?
>>32417155
Yeah mine said that too, but for me I was using pistols so I was fucking up the sight alignment too. Like, too far left or right or the front sight was higher or lower than the rear.
I was trying to shoot with both eyes open as my first time so maybe that was it? I dunno
>>32411934
A good starting group for pistols, even if it is only at 5 yards.
Your rifle precision needs work, but is still pretty decent if you shot those standing.
>>32412800
Beginner: 7 yards
Intermediate: 15 yards
Expert: 25+ yards
(for pistol)
>>32417187
>I was trying to shoot with both eyes open
But why though?
Shoot with your dominant eye.
>>32417212
I keep hearing people on here say to learn to shoot with both eyes open, and my instructor was saying the same thing
>>32417223
That's fine, but learn to swim before you dive into the deep end.
Focus on sight alignment, posture, form, and dominant eye shooting until you're actually good at it, then get fancy.
>>32417223
Tried that, said fuck it I do better with one eye.
I put black electrical tape over the nondominant lens, so I can keep the eye open but not have it fuck with my shooting.
>>32410573
5 yards?
I managed a better standing grouping than that at 25 metres (27 yards) at age 19, the first time I ever fired a weapon in my life
Is it because of my superior anglo genes?
>>32417198
how about rifle range?
oh /k/, OP here, me and my sister were having trouble with the last rounds in the mag of the handgun cause our eye protection would begin to fog up. Was it cause they're shitty range eye protection or cause we were wearing them wrong
>>32412136
He lives in San Diego, unlikely to find woods there. BLM land is fairly close though.
>>32417507
>Was it cause they're shitty range eye protection or cause we were wearing them wrong
I take it you were a bit nervous and breathing heavily since it was your first time. It's worse in an indoor range, but it gets better. I had problems with fogging when I was a teenager but don't even notice it now (except on hot days outside)
>>32410573
>5 yards
Pretty average if you weren't rapid firing
>>32417390
15 to 25 yards, standing for just starting out
Can't go further than 25 yards at most indoor ranges anyway. Just shoot smaller targets.
Outdoor ranges, you can shoot out to 400+ yards with a 5.56 rifle (prone or benchrest, usually)
>>32418554
are nuggets still a good entry surplus rifle? in Commiefornia?
my friend that shoots keeps telling me they're not that worth it anymore, but its probably cause he doesn't want to spend over $150 for one.
I wouldn't mind spending up to $400
>>32410573
Thats great for a first timer, but 5 yards is also unimpressive.
>>32412653
My brothers wife had never touched a gun before but managed similar decent groups the first time she shot a handgun.
You can easily see the one time he anticipated the recoil and the three he jerked it.
Plus it's only five yards holy shit.
Keep shooting op it is fun.
>>32418827
No idea, I think they're a few hundred? But the ammo will be expensive unless you reload it or don't shoot a lot of it.
Personally, I'm an AR-15 fan, but I can see your problem in Cali.
>>32419032
yeah in a perfect world I move to Arizona and buy my dream rifus, but I'm about to finish my degree and my job prospects indicate that I will have to munch off my parents at least for the next couple of years.
One day I will have my FAL and my AK tho. Along with some tacticool bootyshorts.
>>32417390
If you go by the piles of 5.56 brass and shotgun hulls people leave behind at my range...
About 15-20 feet.
>>32419055
If they aren't banned by then in Cali.
>>32419067
kek.
