Which is the better rifle for surplus 54R?
>>32409315
54R has dried up, don't bother.
>>32409315
VEPR is equal or better in every way except that it uses single stack mags.
>>32409334
The import ban won't be in place much longer.

Are VEPRs really that much more reliable? I've heard mixed things, would 308 make a difference reliability wise?
>>32414430
I think he pulled the reliability thing out of his ass.
I agree with his first point though.
>>32415562
More reliably replaced parts no matter how you look at it.
Vepr can shoot heavy ball without killing itself. PSL not so much.
Veprs are also like almost half the price a good PSL is now.
>>32409380
There is no import ban on 54r
>>32409315
PSLs need to run light ball, 149 grain or lighter and they're also picky about mags. I purchased a PSL a long time ago and it would only function with the one magazine that matched the rifle by serial number.
>>32409315
VEPR. Only the Russian SVDs are better.
>>32409334
There is plenty of ammo besides surplus ammo. The VEPR is more than accurate enough to justify better ammo.
>>32414430
Don't know about reliability but it's more accurate than all of them except for the Russian SVDs. It can also shoot heavier ammo.

>heavy ball
Been there, done that. I don't like heavy ball except for busting thick ice. It does it just a little better.
Whether it's corrosive or not, I'm sticking with 150gr ammo.

Also, I've never had a mag issue no matter whether it matches or not.
