>The test of the PL-19 Nudol missile was carried out Dec. 16 from a base in central Russia, and was monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies.
>It was the fifth test of the Nudol missile and the third successful flight of a system Moscow has claimed is for use against enemy missiles, said officials familiar with the reports of the launch.
>The Nudol is viewed by the Pentagon as a so-called “direct ascent” anti-satellite missile. Russia, however, has sought to mask the missile’s anti-satellite capabilities by claiming the missile is for defense against incoming ballistic missiles.
>The TASS news agency reported that the A-60, a variation of the IL-76 transport aircraft, has a laser anti-satellite capability.
>US officials also believe Russia has also deployed what could be kamikaze satellites, known as "Kosmos 2499," which are designed to sidle up to American satellites and, if ordered, destroy or disable them.
>The complete loss of the GPS network, or its serious degradation, would eliminate the effectiveness of all existing long-range conventional strike cruise missiles and would degrade the functioning of precision guided weapons.

Meanwhile the US has no anti-satellite weapons, and fully relies on Russian imported rocket engines to replace its own military satellites

China blew up a satellite some years ago and they increased the amount of orbital debris by 30%. Anyone who shoots down satelites is an ignorant fool and would be dooming humanity to never go to space. It would be like the movie Gravity in real life.
>>
America has anti satellite missiles. They launch them from F-15s
>>
FFS
It's part of A-235 anti-icbm system, which is still in development.

This. Congratulations Russia, you're over 30 years behind.

we should have a missile that shoots a big net and catches the satellites into one big bunch and then fly up in a spaceplane and capture them for disectionings

r8 plan

or even a plane that dumps 100% of its fuel like one of those firefighting planes onto enemy positions and then ignites it w/ the pilot chuckin a match out the window

Aww little baby air launched rockets.

They're no longer commissioned.

Also, weapons continue to improve, that's like calling it a day when the Mk IV tank commissioned.

Don't be such fucking communists next time. That's how China wins.

I like idea. Limits space garbage too.

>>32404214
Pegasus is cool but doesn't have anything to do with anti satellite technology.
>>
>>32404270

You need a pegasus level of launch capability to get a kill sat up to GEO where the GPS and major communication satellites live, the puny fighter launched Anti-Sat missiles are only able to hit things in LEO - so not super useful unless you're just aiming for spy sats.

Should also be noted for the record that GLOSNAS lost too many satellites from orbital decay to function at the same level as GPS these days - its why russia can't really field drones like the US does.
>>
>>32404256
>>32404294
I stand corrected. Well then shit, does the US even have offensive space capability any more? From what I can tell we have been spending money on tracking/studying space derbies, but not much beyond that.

No, thanks.

Nigga u stoopit.

America blew up a satellite some years ago too, but that totally didn't increase the amount of orbital debris, because fatniks.

Nope.

>RIM-161 Standard Missile 3
>Anti-satellite
>On February 14, 2008, U.S. officials announced plans to use a modified SM-3 missile launched from a group of three ships in the North Pacific to destroy the failed American satellite USA-193 at an altitude of 130 nautical miles (240 kilometers) shortly before atmospheric reentry. Officials publicly stated that the intention was to "reduce the danger to human beings" due to the release of toxic hydrazine fuel carried on board,[36][37] but in secret dispatches, US officials indicated that the strike was, in fact, military in nature.[38] A spokesperson stated that software associated with the SM-3 had been modified to enhance the chances of the missile's sensors recognizing that the satellite was its target, since the missile was not designed for ASAT operations.
>On February 21, 2008 at 03:26 UTC, the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie fired a single SM-3 missile, hit and successfully destroyed the satellite, with a closing velocity of about 22,783 mph (36,667 km/h) while the satellite was 247 kilometers (133 nautical miles) above the Pacific Ocean.[39][40] USS Decatur, USS Russell as well as other land, air, sea and space-based sensors were involved in the operation.[41][42]

Anti-satellite weapons have been covered...

>fully relies on Russian imported rocket engines to replace its own military satellites

Nope. They have plenty of domestic launch vehicles. A single US launch system uses Russian engine.
>>
>>32405595

Because they did it at altitude where pretty much everything will decay to atmosphere pretty fast. Chinese did their test at stupid altitude.
>>
>>32403338
I am sure that humanity will invent a way to stop tiny space rocks from killing them, otherwise people should not be in space because that shit is everywhere.
>>
>>32403299
>Meanwhile the US has no anti-satellite weapons, and fully relies on Russian imported rocket engines to replace its own military satellites

Careful not to bite.
