What is your view on the f 35?
Everyone says it is shit but would the Israeli airforce really buy an aircraft that expensive if it is bad.
>>
>>32398753
usa pays every penny free of charge for those f35 that go to isreal also bet the f35's are heavly moddified for isreal and i bet isreal will be selling one or two of them or the technology to the highest bidder to countires like china or russia like they did with american drones
>>
>>32398753

Its great for the nations who can actually afford it.

Its terrible for the nations who cant and just cut the numbers to make up for it.

The F35s only sin is being over budget.
And that's due to wasteful spending on shit that wasn't even needed.

Company I work for has like 5 million in F35 tooling that we don't even use.
And we're like 1 or 10,000 companies that make F35 parts.

The government wants 2,300 F35s
If it was shit, they wouldn't be ordering that many.
>>
>>32398753
The project that produced it was a total clusterfuck which would have always been expensive, but was almost certainly full of waste, fraud and pointless money burning political bullshit.

The actual plane that the program created seems to be a magnificent war machine that effortlessly dominates any simulated combat it's been put in so far.

Trim the project and cut out the waste to lower the cost and I'd have no complaints.

> but would the Israeli airforce really buy an aircraft that expensive if it is bad.

You mean
>but would the American Israeli fund bu the Israeli airforce an aircraft that expensive if it is bad.
>>
>>32402935
The Israeli's don't buy their own equipment. It's provided by daddy America.
>>
>>32398753
Expensive project that overran costs and deadlines many times over, but at the very least has delivered the aircraft and it seems to be performing fine. I can't say the same for the LCS though.
>>
>>32398753
>would the Israeli airforce really buy an aircraft that expensive if it is bad.
get a load of this goy, you actually think isreal BUYS their military hardware from the US?
>>
>>32398753
It's a very good airplane but I don't like it because it replaces multiple models of older airplane that I prefer the general aesthetic of.

I'm therefore in the position of saying "It's a great plane, but please god buy the development costs meme Mr. Trump."
>>
>>32398866
> usa pays every penny free of charge for those f35 that go to isreal
How does one achieve such a poor and simplistic understanding of both not so complex economics and geo politics?
> heavly moddified for isreal
On the contrary; the Israelis wanted the base model, with minimal electronics and sensors, so that they could fit it with their own stuff that, for some reason, they always seem to trust more than anything else. The US opposed this request for a long time, demanding the that the Israelis will receive the full F35 package so that they will be depended on the US and the joint program for any type of maintenance and armament. Eventually, they backed off, so Israel will receive the striped down version while committing to a large scale maintenance work in Europe every few years.
>>
>>32403321
This. IAF never trusts any electronics but its own. Say whatever you want, but our tech boys know what they are doing.

They would if someone gave them $38 billion in free aid

Actually it fails in dogfights against the F-16.

As stupid as this is, I kind of feel the same way. I'm a huge fan of the F-15's looks, and the F-22 was just a refinement of those. F-16 isn't bad either.

The F-35 isn't completely ugly, but it's not on the same level aesthetically.

>caring what a fighter looks like over performance...

In a perverse way, Happy plane would probably be preferable from an aesthetic standpoint.

Mostly because I've heard the design was completely unworkable so would've had to be abandoned, unlike the generally pretty good F-35.

Ace Combat 3 (set in 2040, no cockpit glass although still piloted because TECHNOLOGY) made it half-aesthetic though.

Pretty much this and

>we want a plane that does everything well and replaces at least 4 different planes that each had their own specific role
Ok
>We want a plane with three variants including a vtol variant
Ok
>Its gotta have stealth and other Gucci gear
ok
>waaahh it cost too much moneys!!!
Good, Fast, Or cheap pick two
>>
>>32398753
Over-budgeted, and under-performing for what we've payed for it. I wouldn't be shocked to hear that more pilots have died trying to test that fucking plane that died in actual combat since 9/11. It exceeds at none of the roles it is intended to fill. It's vaporware designed to fight invisible enemies that don't exist. The only benefit it's provided has been keeping government contractors employed.

>>32401312
>if it was shit, the government wouldnt order so many

Holy shit, how wrong you are.
>>
It's an overpriced lemon that has had an exceptionally inefficient development process.
>>
>>32401470
>The actual plane that the program created seems to be a magnificent war machine that effortlessly dominates any simulated combat it's been put in so far.

Where's the evidence for this? I don't doubt you, but I'd like to read the reports myself.
>>
>>32404388
Dont forget
>keep the program a whole new level of transparant, allowing every retard with a blog to comment and make "expert claims/critisism

Shit, the screaming that would have ensued if the F16, F14, F15 and so on had endured the same would be imense
>>
i dont know much about planes but what happened to the f22? i thought it was the best fighter ever
>>
>>32404552
China and Russia failed to develop anything remotely comparable so we didn't need it
>>
>>32404417
Green Flag, Red Flag, exercises at Hill Air Force Base, pilot testimonials that its the dopest shit on the block, etc...
>>
>>32398753
It's an excellent fighter miles above everything else designed in recent times for less money that, with the current software load, is proving to be able to do pretty much everything.

Yeah, I'd call "having to completely redesign" if they won fraudulent at best.
