That unguided nucleal air to air missile US used to have. Probably most based missile in history.

Why is it based? Because it's a missile running on explosives? As opposed to the missiles running on flame retardants? I think YOU are the retard.

The AIR 2 was expensive, finnicky, a de-facto suicide weapon under combat conditions, and most importantly, it was found that it basically didn't work; it was only kept in service for political reasons, and because the Delta Dagger couldn't fire anything else, and wasn't equipped with a gun.

People always forget that the UR-500 Proton began its life as an ICBM concept that could lob a 100 megaton Tsar Bomba 13,000 miles or six "smaller" warheads into orbit, 2001-style (before weapons in space treaties took away our ability to have nice things). Hence, the hypergolic fuel system.

Just let that sink in for a second: An ICBM with enough throw weight that they ended up using it to launch space stations and lunar flybys. Singlehandedly, it could have launched as many MIRVs as a Ben Franklin class SSBN.

nuke ramjet powered missiles that fly at supersonic speeds at low altitude, killing just from the shockwave, then drop H bombs and then circle endlessly above the russian countryside making it completely uninhabitable and then crash in the countryside making a giant dirty bomb aren't very lame tho

What kind of laser can be powered with a nuclear ramjet?

Imagine combining SLAM with the Airborne Laser, You could almost solve the problems of both projects.
It could maintain a continuous patrol employing the laser on ICBMs/TBMs and deploying nukes on anything that it can't destroy with it's radioactive shockwave.

Polaris.
Actually did what it was supposed to, so well that the Navy ended up taking most of the deterrent role. Later missiles like the Poseidon refined the concept, but Polaris was the major breakthrough.

If it's a salt weapon it's decent I suppose, but salting is pretty shit tier overall. If i9t's meant to be the OMG TSUNAMI weapon that vatniks claim, then it's garbage because you're not making a tsunami from an underwater detonation, you need a fucking plate movement to move the water enough to do it.

propellents and explosives arent the same thing, so yes, when a missile is propelled by an explosive instead of a propellent it is a big deal

theoretically, it could cause some damage and disorient people on the ground. Really, it all depends on the kinds of shockwaves you get. Oblique shocks are more efficient, giving you lower drag, but they also cause a lower pressure change over the shocks (meaning a weaker shock). The strongest shocks will be detached normal shocks, but those are retardedly ineffiicent.

Using this calculator, we can demonstrate that -
http://www.dept.aoe.vt.edu/~devenpor/aoe3114/calc.html

For the Normal Shocks, using an M1 of 2 and gamma of 1.4, you get a P2/P1 of 4.5, corresponding to a delta-P of 50psi at sea level.

Using the same speed but with an oblique shock over a 10-degree turn angle (a very steep angle for supersonic surfaces), you get a pressure ratio of only about 1.7, or a delta-P of about 10.29psi.

While theoretically that's a lot of pressure, in practice it isn't really practical. Normal shocks are something you try to avoid with supersonic design for obvious reasons, and the general design principles for creating supersonic lift will counter attempts to make the strongest possible shocks. Meanwhile, factors such as having enough thrust and aerodynamic heating become serious issues in design, all for a "weapon" that requires you to be incredibly close to the target to have any effect at all.

Those rockets were pretty useless.

>>32400059

AIM-4 and AIM-26 weren't exactly functional weapon systems, at least when were introduced. Swedes happened stupid enough license those and they had to spend quite a lot more money to integrate 'em into Draken... basically to un-fuck said missile systems... at the point when USAF just abandoned 'em and started to use Navy developed Sidewinder and Sparrow that were quite a lot closer to meeting the design specifications.
