Oblique shocks are more efficient, giving you lower drag, but they also cause a lower pressure change over the shocks (meaning a weaker shock). AIM-4 and AIM-26 weren't exactly functional weapon systems, at least when were introduced. Swedes happened stupid enough license those and they had to spend quite a lot more money to integrate 'em into Draken... basically to un-fuck said missile systems... at the point when USAF just abandoned 'em and started to use Navy developed Sidewinder and Sparrow that were quite a lot closer to meeting the design specifications.
