It's gunna be all about that Augmented Reality once see through displays become good. No need for a laser or a red dot on your gun, instead it's shown directly in your vision using augmented reality. Devices like this acoustic gunfire locator could draw incoming bullet trails in mid air. No more wondering where the shots came from, just follow the red line.

Yeah sorry, we're in the prologue to the actual cyberpunk story, but it's definitely a cyberpunk setting. Have you seen the new with-sensation cyberarms and cyberlegs? Check back in 10-20 years, that's when the augs are gonna be. You get to be the grizzled vet or whatever if that's how you want to slice it. War will probably be one of the last businesses to get automated.

Obviously the 40Watt series is the first plasma rifle developed and the T-800 was asking if they were available to gauge what the level of weapons technology was at the time and therefore what level of weapons it might realistically encounter.

Most of the records were destroyed during the war, remember.

The wattage detirmines how much energy goes into the shooting per second, and thermodynamics detirmines that less than that energy comes out the business end of the thing.

On the other hand being constantly barraged with heat from a 15-watt light bulb would eventually cook you.

Not having bud's skullgun loaded with cookie cutters, or Constable Moore's HOPLITE armour and a chevaline, or any of the billion things in Diamond Age. For a supposedly post-cyberpunk book it sure had some rad fucking cyberpunk shit in it.
>>
I'm actually going to blather even more about diamond age. If you want to read a post-cyberpunk novel that includes hive mind computing with nanobots exchanged in sexual intercourse, nano-viruses that burn out the veins of victims or blow their limbs clean off, and a ending fight scene reminiscent of the boxer rebellion with a collection of westerners fighting their way through a seething horde of chinamen with cyberpunk and nano-tech weaponry in cowboy hats and boots and proper english gentlemen with bowlers and a mustache and zulus with nanoblade polearms and israelis with skull guns and boers with scatterguns then read that fucking book. Also breif moments of a scotsman in blood splattered power armor sipping tea delicately from fine china in a japanese teagarden with cherryblossoms falling while contemplating war. Also at somepoint a young girl drives a screwdriver into her abusive stepdads eye. Once again sex computers.
>>
>>32399073
The world there is only post-cyberpunk if you lived in one of the upper phyles, and even then, as you note, the concept of cyberpunk has left marks.

I would have loved more Dr. X cyberpunk shenanigans complementing the NeoVic steampunk.
>>

Aside from the street samurai razor girl molly millions, the turing police, and maybe Rivieras psychological warfare there wasn't much /k related material in Neuromancer.

10/10 cyberpunk
5/10 weapons

At least Johnny Mneumonic had the monomolecular wire whip.
>>
Full-spectrum optical array with overload compensation, shoulder mounted laser units for blinding or overloading the optical systems of enemies, nervous system and musculature enhancements focusing on extreme dexterity and reaction time, full body active camo, and a nanoblade.

Maybe a disassembled machine pistol with each major component mounted on microtrack, able to assemble itself in-hand at will but otherwise concealed.
>>
>>32399763

The Sprawl trilogy was pretty lackluster on /k/ material, but the Bridge trilogy had some good stuff.
>>
>>32399763

Are you the same guy as the one who was ranting about Diamond Age? Anyway, my point is that this whole thread is ironic considering Case. Take that as you will.

With that said, >>32399922, Gibson went downhill fucking fast. I almost regret reading the other 2 books and have zero desire to read anything else by him.

So a Blade Runner hunting rogue synthetics (androids, biotech replicants, whatever) would be packing something with more punch? Or just that it's not up to snuff vs some kind of military human tank? Say I'm some kind of all-meat street hood going after Triad/Yakuza/Mafya backalley cyborg enforcers, probably using yesteryear's augments?

Is the issue bullet velocity, adequate penetration, being able to get enough HE into the cores to actually fuck shit up once the round penetrates?

What happens if you use a round of this composition on someone without cybernetics?
>>
>>32402435
>What happens if you use a round of this composition on someone without cybernetics?
Ever seen regular .357 hit a rodent? About like that.
>>
>>32402463
Now, I assume the HE detonates when the penetrator tip hits something hard enough to cause a detonation.

Would anything in a human body be hard enough to cause such a detonation though?

Or would it do as much damage as .357 ball (which is nothing to sneeze at), overpenetrate, and blow up the wall behind it?

I mean, if it detonated in soft-tissue, then yeah, blood cloud.
>>
>>32402435
