Anyone know if there's a way to go about making an Obrez, or any other rifle-caliber bolt-action pistol, without it being an NFA item? Basically, is there anywhere that will sell an unbarrelled virgin receiver (ideally Mosin, but others would work) to get around the whole "making a rifle into a pistol" part of the NFA? I know Brownells has some Remington 700 receivers, but...ew, Remshit.

Pic related would be quite fun to build, especially with a No.4/5 receiver, but again, NFA. I don't want to deal with the paperwork, personally.

Seeing as how you're gonna need all the parts of a full mosin anyway, here's a good plan: buy a cheap bubba'd mosin, and cut its receiver up. Use the rear receiver section from the full rifle you purchased and demilled, and the front section you bought from Apex.

Take photographic proof of everything before you weld, and keep it with the gun if johnny law ever pitches a fit.

(btw welding it is a snap compared to building an AK)

You can't just weld two parts together.
Demilling must be at least two cuts with minimum 1/4" torch displacement.
This is why two recievers are needed. You cut so that the middle part from one makes up the gaps left in the other.

I'm keeping mine as is. It belonged to my best friend. We were both raised noguns and that was the first rifle either of us shot. He died of meningitis, fuck, almost two years ago now and his dad was nice enough to let me have the rifle. It's a bog standard round receiver 91/30 made in 1943 and it's been kicked to shit but it's the last rifle I'd ever part with.
