They have been in Congo, Afghanistan, Somalia and Northern Iraq that we know of publicly. They were in Afghanistan before Sweden made a commitment to enter the UN mission there. Basically they go to active combat zones to fight alongside NATO forces to gain combat experience.

I remember a visit to a Finnish airbase an unspecified amount of time ago where we toured a hangar where they were servicing Hornets, in one corner there were weapons the cameraman tagging along to our trip was told not to record, I didn't think much of it until an unspecified amount of time later when it was revealed that FiAF had tested & bought air-to-ground -weapons for the Hornets, apparently those weapons we saw were part of the tests (didn't pay that much attention to them, so can't say if they were the same weapons that were adopted)
