Intended application is PDW for SHTF. Don't care how much it'll cost, my life is at stake.

What other red dots exist today that come close?

Buy H1/2 T1/2 for smaller profile lighter weight and less xboxhueg mount solution

Long tube red dot sights are kinda outdated. Everyone seems to be moving away from them in favor of the micro red dots
If you really must get a long tube, take a look at the DI Optical RV1
>Objective size: 30mm
>Lens Conating: multi-coated on all lens surface
>Reticle: 1.5 MOA dot
>Power: 1x AA battery
>Battery life: 10,000 to 20,000 hours
>Illumination setting: 7 daylight + 3 nightvision
>Length: 4-inch
>Weight: 13.75 ounces
>Price: $229.50
>>
>>32381994
What's the catch with Aimpoint ACO? It looks almost the same as CompM4 for half the price?
>>
>>32382484
The ACO is just a cheaper PRO with a shittier mount and 1/3d the battery life for like $50 cheaper
It's better to just save up an extra 50 for the PRO
>>
>>32382484
How does Aimpoint PRO compare to all of these?

CompM4 with magnifier
>>
>>32382537
drawback is, you get the red dot magnified also. See first vs second focal plane
>>
>>32381994
It's one of the GOAT optics for picatinny mounts. The battery will outlive you.

Do it faggot.
>>
>>32382535
Depends if your eyes are fucked or not. If your vision can be corrected AND you can use your glasses while shooting, anything goes. If you're having difficulties with shooting with your glasses, then you're fucked - all really decent sights and fixed magnification scopes are coming without diopter correction, and you'll have to resport to something like Vortex Spitfire 3x or Burris 3x or 5x, whatever their model name is.
>>
>>32382544

>trying to decide on red dot for scar 17

>I'm getting 3 different optics for all applications
>looking at trijicon MRO

I wanted something with a bigger profile because MROs are pretty small, but I also like that it has a better field of view than t1/t2 micros. Eotechs are trash. Is the MRO my best option for durability to take my scars recoil or should I look elsewhere?
>>
>>32381994
The COMP m4 is a great red dot and I have one. But, you say this is for a PDW build? If that is the case I would recommend a T2 in a mount of your choice. It is smaller, weighs less and is just as durable but with less of a "tunnel effect" that you see with the pro and comp series. Whichever one you get, you will not be disappointed.

The battery in my T2 has been on for 3 years constantly and is still going strong and the M4 is rated to go even longer.
>>
>>32381994
Real men use iron sigths
>>
>>32381994
I have a pro and it's honestly a great optic. I've never noticed the tubular effect some other anons have pointed out. I also appreciate the 30,000 hour battery life on setting 7.
>also takes some comp m4 accessories so you can use a killflash.
>>
If life is at stake, just get that CompM4 and don't look back. Fuck eoshit and all other companies.
Itf it's a SHTF rifle, also highly consider the ACOG.
>>
The one thing that catches my attention about the compm4 is that it uses a standard AA battery. I know that aimpoints have excellent battery life but I like the idea of using one of the most common types of batteries.
>>
>>32383813
I love occluded eye aiming with an ACOG to use it like a red dot. It's like a magic trick when I show it to people.
>>
>>32383936
How hard is it to get decent with it?
>>
>>32383962
Not hard at all. I can do it without closing the cover, which makes it great for switching from close to medium aiming styles on the fly.

You can start out by closing a cover (or just putting some duct tape over it). The reticle against a black background is easier to learn with.

The reticle will get a bit fuzzy as you move your head around, losing you pinpoint accuracy compared to a red dot, but it will be center-o-man. In my combat experience you aren't going to be worrying about pin points at close range anyway, just doing walkovers as you shoot center of exposed mass.
>>
>>32382115
>they don't even specify the battery life
This is a fucking huge red flag for me.
>>
>>32382535
Variable zoom scope with an illuminated reticle.

Range from $200 - Countless thousands.
>>
>>32384514
Exactly. No go.
>>
>>32383813
>CompM4
It so happens that my LGS only has M4S at the moment, I'm thinking if I should get it instead. I've seen that there were problems with mounting the magnifier behind it - it interferes with M4S brightness adjustment, is there anything else that is different?

>Fuck eoshit
Amen to that
>>
>>32384041
awesome, thanks
>>
>>32386479
Tried both CompM4 and T-2 on two different rifles next to each other, didn't like T-2 a single bit - the field of view is cramped. CompM4 feels like there were no compromises made.

>>
>>32382115
>>32382107
They spoke on arfcom about battery life, saying they are still testing/improving and that it would be better than EOTech, but not Aimpoint level.

USB port is completely separated from the main components of the optic, it is literally only there if you want to use rechargeable batteries. If it happens to break it doesnt matter at all. Water/debris in the port will not affect any other part of the red dot.

Literally the only downside is the length of it, so if you don't mind a 2.5 inch long holo sight, it's an excellent option.

Like I said, I did better - I've tried them on two different rifles next to each other. I didn't even consider MRO - my gut feeling doesn't like it. M4 is bulkier, but there's less silhouette relatively to clear space within, so it feels better. I don't care about weight - my training rifle is AR-10, so this is actually going to be a walk in the park in any case.

Last question to solve now is - do I really want to go extra step to get it to lower 1/3 cowitness, or it's good as it is. That, and whether I want a QD mount - probably not, because it won't matter that much for CQB, and for longer ranges I have different setups.
>>
>>32387904
>military grade
That designation is not for shits and giggles.
>>
>>32387935
We can only judge based on information they provided themselves, which is none (not even an estimate) - and figuring out how a constant power consumer will drain the battery is not exactly rocket science by now (yes, I know, temperatures, cycles, pressure, etc. - there are test farms for that). Give me information - I'll go eat my hat.

If it's any comparison, the QRP I have my PRO in has good rtz. They mount to the gun the same way, but attaching to the optic itself is different.

I've swapped it between a few guns without readjusting zero and put it back on my pistol with it holding the original zero several times.

>>
>>32387979
I stand corrected - it was CompM4S that I tried, not CompM4. Still can't decide which one I want - the M4S has a better silhouette, on the other hand, should I ever want to install a magnifier behind it, I won't be able to operate it with my left hand. Plus, looking at the pictures, I don't know if the battery compartment will be hit by brass at least sometimes.
>>
>>32388830
Getting his by brass is literally meaningless, if it even happens.

unless you have a magnifier or NVGs, then you don't need a T2

T1 is plenty functional, and my T2 has been on for the past 2 years and is still illuminated and is probably half the weight of a CompM4

microdots are easier to use with both eyes, if im going heavier than a microdot i'll probably run an eotech over a CompM4

>will never happen
what exactly will never happen? A couple of arabs with AR-15s bursting into a Christmas party (California)? A deranged woman rear ending another car on red light then walking out of the car and shooting the driver of the car she just rear ended (Arizona)? A truck driver mowing a crowd (Nice, Berlin)?

Yeah, sure.

I'm not saying that this is the only thing I count on. Look into the past again - had people in kill zones been able to protect themselves, the body count would've been much less. Each of those cases above is SHTF for me, it costs lives.

>>32389562
If you take this as roleplay - you're welcome to play in your own sandbox. To me, this shit costs money and, most importantly, time of my life that I'd rather dedicate to something more fun and/or productive, but I have a responsibility to protect my family, and I'm taking all the measures I can not to be a sheep when the time comes. And it fucking comes much more often than I'd like it to.

the Primary Arms Advanced Micro Red Dot is a rebadged Holosun

There are two main variants for Holosun micros:
403 is the basic red dot version. About $160 normally.
503 can go between red dot and circle dot (eotech) reticle. $200-240 depending on which one.

There are also solar, flip cap (as opposed to bikini cap), and recessed turret versions of the above two.

I've seen them as low as $180 for the 515 (solar, flip cap, recessed turret) version and $110-120 for the 403
