Why is this gun so expensive? It's literally an oversized 45.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

-Limited Production Pistol
-H&K Being H&K
-Probably most tested Pistol in history
-Designed from the ground up to operate on .45 Super (ie ++P rounds on steroids) for its entire service life.
-Essentially built to be indestructible. From its coating to springs, and barrel, this thing will probably outlast its owner.

>>32380998
This too. You're paying for the mystique of where this pistol came from and what it was designed to do. Still love mine despite all of it, especially if you have big hands.

>It does have that rubber cock ring on the barrel I guess

The longer barrel USPs (tactical, expert, elite) all have o-ring barrels. The HK aftermarket threaded barrel is o-ringed as well.

>>32381039

>Limited Production Pistol

It'll get a lot more expensive overnight when H&K finally stops producing them.
>>
>>32380998

Luckily the usp compact is more widely used by operators
>>
It's expensive because once upon a time, H&K got a bunch of dollarydoos from SOCOM to design an "offensive pistol", and everyone at H&K shrugged their shoulders and upscaled a USP in a scanner and slapped a nice price tag on it for shits and giggles.
>>
>>32381039

I dont know much about guns, so what is that button on the Mk .23, just above the trigger? I've noticed something similar on Glocks, though it looks more like a switch.

>this is coming from a guy who loves FN products as wel.
>>
>>32384652
The trigger on the mark 23 is better, not only the smoothness and reset but the physical trigger is metal instead of polymer, just gives a nice feel.
Everything else is stuff you won't notice (maybe a longer sight radius) because most of what makes a mark 23 is the fact that it's insanely overbuilt to handle ridiculous amounts of +P 45 ACP

If it gets the job done reliably, what reason other than elitism is there to shit on it?
>>
>>32384662
I have.
I love the mk23, but mag capacity is a thing, it's basically why I do the own any HK. Ive got sasquatch hands, and the mk23 is a nice size for me.
>>
>>32384840
It's only a 2 round difference. Though personally I hate the feel of the fnx/fnp series so I guess I can excuse a loss of 2 rounds.

No one in SOCOM actually liked these much, except the divers. For the other guys, well, they regarded it as too heavy & large to be a useful sidearm.

If suppressors were legal here, I'd probably own one though. They're very accurate & pleasant to shoot. But without a suppressor it's just a desert eagle sized gun shooting .45ACP with a fairly low capacity mag...

>Source? I've seen them in Afghanistan.

I didn't say they were entirely unused by ground teams, it's just that they're not so popular there.

This quote comes from a verified ex-SEAL who did part of the Colt vs HK testing. It was posted on a number of forums, including HKPRO:
>It was finally issued around 1996 or so. I used it in winter warfare a lot, for over the beach work and diving. I preferred my SIG for assaults. Later in my career I did a lot more diving and over the beach work. The Mk 23 was awesome at that stuff. It is the best weapon to have in a hide site when lying up with a Team in a concealed position. You can bring it to bear day or night on anyone sneaking up on you. It is accurate even after blowing through your hide site material, the suppressor is pretty quiet and the LAM lets you get away with a lot. I used it and trained many other SEALs to use it very capably. The SEAL Teams that did not dive as much as, say, SDV Teams neglected their Mk 23’s. The Mk 23’s strengths were not as obvious to those guys who weren’t swimming and diving all the time. Last year a message came out to turn in all Mk 23’s to Crane. At least one SDV Team flatly refused. A few other Teams suddenly decided they should keep a “few”. So those at NAVSPECWARCOM who had sent the message in the first place restricted the expenditure of .45 ammo, instead. SDV Teams now have Mk 23s but no ammo allowance. They even ordered S&W 686’s from Crane to outfit their guys because a SIG will not survive a long dive very well. I know of a handful of guys who have taken their issue Mk 23’s overseas since the ammo cut-off because they know they can get the ammo there and have actually carried them in missions far from the water.

There's some more quotes about weight & land use, but I don't have the time to dig them up. I suspect you can find most if you google the quote above & follow the link to HKPRO.

But is it really any wonder that most people who rely on rifles, carbines or SMGs aren't hugely interested in such a large handgun to carry around? Both the pistols pictured will do fine as a "fallback" weapon or to take out someone quietly.

If you have no other weapon, I bet everyone would pick the Mk23 though.

I always wanted to get one, but my country makes it kinda hard to get multiple weapons of the same caliber and I´d much rather have something like a 6´´ Les Baer with target accuracy. Also I´m not a huge fan of polymer guns unless it´s for carrying or something.

yeah that's a bit much for a used USP. unless it came with a jetfunnel and 18 round mags or something.

>>32388226
i've shot them and sold them at work and they're okay, but not worth anywhere near full retail. they feel great in the hand and all and the side panel swapping is also neat, but the trigger sucks major ass (spongy, and over-travels more than what most would find acceptable) for what you pay for. if you find a good deal on one, then cool I guess
>>
>>32380929

I was tempted to buy a Mk23, but after much thought I decided to go with a gun that takes away 9mm fags' capacity argument (15+1) and can have a RMR mounted right out of the box. My only complaint is that the safety/decocker handles like flaccid dick

Thanks man, my USP45c is my favorite gun of all time. As for you prices, for reference I paid 650 for the compact (barely used, had all the bluing on the barrel hood and even some on the feed ramp) and I paid 900 for my USP45 Tactical. My buddy picked up a used USP45 fullsize from a cop online at $550, it had carry wear but was pretty much new on the inside.

They've been manufactured for over two decades, you should be able to find good used prices.
>>
>>32388607

I handled on of those with and without a suppressor at an SOT shop down the road from my place. Seemed like a good gun and I liked the SNP 9mm I shot, but it's not my style ergonomically. Still may pick up the compact 9mm one day though. For .45, I'm USP all the way pretty much.

It's a fantastic soft and easy to shoot handgun. The site radius makes getting rounds on top of each other a cinch. It's a large weapon but it's not overly heavy or unwieldy. I daresay the grip is better than that of a Glock. It is my go-to weapon when I'm out in the brush rain snow sand mud dirt or salt.
