Well the most expensive sword scored close to 8 million $US, the most expensive firearms where a pair of pistols that belonged to George Washington. So Swords > guns, because more expensive is better.

But then, there is this thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW2IDIDfHKY
>anyone into bling?

P.S. George's pistols did score close to 2 million $a

Maybe they have some historic value, especially the gun that shot Lincoln, but then, they are not artworks, and as such they simply do not score prices as high as swords.

You've articulated it REALLY badly but I know what you're getting at. The reason that swords- particularly short swords, longswords and greatswords- have the kind of presence and emotional power they do is because of what society associates them with. Think about how Western media and Chinese Cartoons(TM) treat them. We have examples like tales of King Arthur and his Excalibur. Every noble knight who slays the dragon and saves the princess. Goddamn Star Wars. Jesus fucking Christ, Star Wars. Look no further than Star Wars for the glorification of swords via the lightsaber. The Japs have had a sword fetish ever since it became less of a sidearm and more of a ceremonial thing. God do they ever love swords, because muh culture, even though the bow was a much better and more heavily used weapon in the time of the samurai. There is a mental association in out society between swords and a fair fight, an honorable fight, a thing we now largely consider lost to time even though it was rarely ever a reality. The sword is a symbol of knights and princes, the Good Guys everyone aspires to be. A symbol of a time that never was, but which a lot of people want back, in a way. In other words, everyone is looking back at the age of swords with rose-tinted glasses, through a lens of centuries of warping, falsification, mistranslation, and mistakes of legend for reality and vice versa. If there are guns that capture this effect now, it's revolvers and lever-actions because of the association with the Wild West and the larger-than-life characters contained therein. Perhaps in a thousand or more years, when war is waged purely from afar with drones and robots, people will look back through time at assault rifles and handguns in this way, wishing for the old days when you had to kill a man yourself if you wanted him dead.

Looking shiny like a brothel door != art
Even the most expensive H&H guns score way below expensive swords.
pic related is the most expensive weapon so far, close to 8'000'000 $$$

Famous swords are usually legendary or downright fictional ones, used by great lords and heroes. These swords were also individually made, unlike modern mass-produced guns. (Didn't carlos hatcock modify his M2? That would count.)
>>
>>32373364
>Looking shiny like a brothel door != art
Yes, welcome to the highly subjective world of art where a raging alcoholic's paint flingings and a can of soup can be worth millions.
>Even the most expensive H&H guns score way below expensive swords.
Yes that tends to happen when the two objects being compared are chronologically seperated by quite a bit and one has a greater amount of precious metals.

In germany we had this very successful author writing stories of heroes in the old west (okay stories, but nothing close to the real world... he never left germany). He features a few unique and named guns that most older germans will still recognize as belonging to those heroes, which is about as close as I can think of a "legendary" gun. Dunno wether there are similar cases in american or other literature.

I couldn't care less about Hitler friend. Swords are antiquated technology superseded by guns, there's no arguing this.

Handguns used to be. Since most of them were handmade by gunsmiths.

They were given as state gifts and held ceremonial value. Practice however died off after 1900, largely because the firearms industry is, well, industrialized. And the few gunsmiths left are utter bubbas.

Not to mention giving weapons as state gifts nowadays is pretty third world.

As aid, there's a glock thread somewhere, you will be much happier there. Functionality has nothing to do with historic value. And putting golden whore stripes do not turn a run of the mill gun into an artwork.

Swords have more history behind them than guns. We've been using guns for what, 3-400 years tops? We were using swords since ancient Egypt up until and during WW1.

However, (showing my not guns knowledge here) isn't the peacemaker considered a renowned gun for 'winning the west'?

more like 500, but older ones can reach 600+ years. Even top quality handmade guns usually do not score as high as high end swords.

All it has is a historically significant owner. But it looks like any Flintylock Pistol ever and servicable to boot.

Try Cathy The Great's. Made by a master gunsmith and the whole fucking furniture is made of ivory. Its not for sale so we'll never know how much this one is.
