Literally too soon. It's oddly embarrassing to watch and they are by far the worst of all reenactors. The only real thing they do is mock battles and bad ones at that.

These guys are some of the better people I've met. A lot of them do Living History and not just the portrayal of battles. A lot of them have a history in... history. Their historical recreations are done well and they put on a show for the general public. They take what they do very seriously, but are very friendly.

Fuck these guys. They are sell outs who incorporate modern elements into a false interpretation or events. It's more of a drama than a reenactment.

>Dark Age & Medieval

This is another great bunch. They put a lot of effort into studying tapestries and sagas so they can create a realistic interpretation of history and help others do so as well. These guys can be elitist when it comes to others who share lesser knowledge then they do, but luckily it's limited to 30+ crowed who took daddies money over the years and invested in extensive collections of medieval things.

Why would you post an obviously false generalisation? At a big event the WW2 guys are living in period accurate tents with period accurate gear and most of them won't even be doing a mock battle. They will be teaching visitors about things with occasional displays/shooting guns/driving a tank around. At the last one a guy showed my little brother how to clean and operate an MG42.

I don't see how having fun while teaching the public about history is embarrassing.

If they're reenacting as a show for others, it's like Disney workers. They should look the part they're playing, ie being 300 pounds is much less realistic than not having the exact right uniform.

If it's just for their own shits and giggles then they can do whatever they want. It keeps antiques in circulation and helps keep historical knowledge alive, to some extent.

i dont even job/exercise regularly, but i get a good workout carrying like 10-15lb of laundry on my shoulder in a 30 min roundtrip walk to my laundry mat every 5-10 days, and i probably get more exercise in 1 month than those re-enactors in OP get in 5 years .

These re-enactment pics are weird to me, most of the re-enactors I know are more fit than average unless they are older guys.

At the big shows I go to half of them end up digging trenches/fox holes and such for their displays too.

Pretending to be a soldier in a battle scenario, that is full of other people pretending to be soldiers, all because you guys want to have some fun for the day.

and

Pretending to be a soldier who has seen real combat, walking around public spaces, all in an effort to get people to give you free things, give you more respect, etc.

The reenactors will tell people upon first greeting that they are just playing a game, the other will not and will try to pass off as a real veteran/soldier.

One group I looked in on, SS group, they just stood around in a barn listening to Karl Schwendler songs most of a day and set up zeltbahns outside, then once the US reenactors showed up they staged some mock battles.
They had as Sdkfz 251 and a Dnepr made to look like an SS BMW R75.
