thems some nice lefty threads for sure.
i can't thread for shit on a lathe, my stuff always comes out looking like shit, although i'm usually using shit steel and shit carbide insert threading tools.

correct
>Sorry revolver fags
Simple construction leads to less hiccups and complications.
>>32369376
Thanks mate. Only reason they look so good is because I had someone who actually knows what they're doing over my should most of the time.
Btw that's a barrel for a Savage axis
If anon can ID it I will stick it in my butt
>>32369523
yeah, i do like working on the lathe quite a lot, the school just gives us shit tools and shit material to work with so everything looks likes shit.
i managed to get my hands on a few slugs of some kind of tool steel, and holy fuck that stuff machines to a mirror finish.
i need to get a new reamer and 5/8-24 tap so i can start machining a muzzle brake for my savage.
>>32369311
Looks like a CZ 75, but only 1 lug. Some kind of clone?
>>32369564
Looks familiar. Lee Enfield?
>>32369550

Are you reducing your infeed as you approach the final depth? Remember, due to the nature of single pointing threads, you are engaging more and more of the cutter length each pass. The beginning, it's only cutting on the tip. By the end, you are taking a cut along the whole face of the thread. If you use the same infeed at the end, it may very well crack or tear your threads. Don't blame your material or cutter, especially if you are using carbide, which is the paragon of cutter materials. Also, oil early and often.
>>32369895
yeah, i start with ~.010 infeed at 29deg on the compound for rough passes, then progressively bring it down .005 when i'm close, then .001-2 at near final depth. lots of oil too.
its always ends up chippy as fuck with lots of burrs and slag in the cut.
>>32370096
Sounds reasonable. (conservative even). Dunno then. Is your insert reasonably sharp looking?
>>32370096
>.010 infeed at 29deg on the compound for rough passes,
This is critical for cutting good looking threads. Set your compound rest to half the thread angle (so 30 degrees for 60 degree ANSI threads) and use that as your infeed so the cutting tool is only cutting on one side. This will greatly reduce stress on the cutting tool and help to avoid ripped looking threads. Also for finishing passes, only take off half a thou at a time. And use dial indicators on everything! The micrometer measurements on the lathe itself are usually not very accurate.
>>32370249
29 - 29.5 degrees is common. That way you shave a very light amount off right side still, to reduce the lines that mark each pass.
Also, dial indicators is pretty excessive. The amount of error in a micrometer dial is very low for such a small amount of travel. Per pass the error is likely less than a tenth even on an import lathe. Also, assuming his tool isn't clapped out, a five tenth finishing pass is pretty excessively conservative. Sure if you need it to bring the pitch diameter into tolerance. But you should be able to go a couple thou at the very least without tearing threads.

>>32369643
Good job. But it's. A compact
>>32372318
do you know how to put that back together?
>>32375039
Thread barrel into frame part way, slip on the shroud, hold the cylinder gap spacer in place, continue threading barrel until you hit the spacer, thread on the barrel nut, slide out the spacer. It's pretty simple.
