Hey /k/ anyone want to have a discussion about homemade firarms?
I would like to try and summon the maker of this muzzleloader, i think, to explain how it works. I can see its based off the four winds but id like to know more specifically about how the mechanism on the rear works.
>>
I take it any and all homemade firearms are banned in Aus? Right?

If not do you need some kind of license?
>>

That shit is all retarded, why not just make your own based on an existing weapons platform that won't blow up in your face the second time you fire it?

open bolt is always illegal in the US
>>
>>32368200
I did just last week after I finished rebuilding the rear differential.

There's a difference between basing your design off a pre-existing design and just buying parts to assemble a gun.
>>
>>32368217
If I'm not mistaken a single shot open bolt with no extractor/ejector would be legal.
>>
As far as I have divined from Canadian law, in Canada:

1) if you make your own firearm, it is non transferable and must be destroyed at your eath (I have no idea how this applies to unfinished receivers, I speak of making from scratch)

2) If you make your own firearm, you must hold the proper license for it (make a handgun, better have your restricted license)

3) If you make your own firearm, you are supposed to submit it or its design to the RCMP so it can be verified for its classification and put in the FRT (Firearms Registration Table? I forget) This is on you, because if they take your non restricted homemade gun and easily modify it into a prohibited, you are guilty of owning a prohibited weapon. Also, they want it to be serialized, trackable, and its design recognized in case of theft/use in a crime.

So, I made a matchlock rifle which is technically not a firearm at all to avoid all that FRT stuff. And if you can easily make my matchlock into a prohibitied weapon, well shit son, you're one of those german clockwork wizards.
>>
>>32368275
It can have all the bells and whistles you want as long as it does not take a magazine. Single shot open bolt is perfectly legal.

Made this shitstick. I didnt know how to make Armstrongs mix right (probably a good thing, the tube is not strong), so i just jammed a firecracker down the barrel to use as propellant. Plan on making a .22 rifle soon for shits and giggles because fuck having to rifle a pistol barrel. Dunno why the ATF considers a smoothbore pistol an AOW

Not tge maker but it looks pretty straight forward, spring loaded hammer is released with your thumb, probably a nipple and cap cun cap on the back.

Possibly a nail firing pin and you unscrew the back to load a single shotgun shell like the Army FM discussing improvised weapons and munitions directs.

Here's a "preview" of Professor Parabellum's plans (preview due to being on Scribd). For those who plan to build any of these guns, know that he (and Holmes too) has included some measurement errors on purpose to make these plans useful for people who know what they're doing only, and not amateurs. The Mac 11 bolt is way too light, for example.

Improvised munitions, this manual give you instructions to build the simplest and crudest of firearms, including 7.62x39 cartridges loaded with crushed match heads and a bolt as a projectile.

All of this is for educational purposes only, of course.

So when test firing a weapon, how many shots does it need to pass before it can be considered safe and functional? What conditions does it need to pass in?

hypothetically, what if you made an open bolt smg without a trigger? meaning it just plows through the entire mag until its empty? because the federal government only considers the "firearm" (lower receiver in an AR) to be the part that houses the fire control group

>>
>>32373569
CIP proofs with two cartridges with 25% above maximum pressure.
>>
>>32367540
I built that based on a design from TM 31-210, Improvised Munition Handbook. I made a muzzleloader instead of a shotgun, i guess I just wanted to throw random stuff in there to use as a propellant and anything i can throw in the barrel as a projectile

I used smokeless powder cannibalized from various cartridges, pyrodex tablets and match heads as propellant, all successfully. As far as projectiles go, i have shot lead balls, birdshot and a handful of airsoft bbs.

It works by placing a percussion cap in the rear, there was a little space i carved for it it fit right in, or plastic toy caps with the white tip of a strike anywhere match stuffed in if you run out of normal percussion caps.

Then you pull back on that shitty hammer with your thumb, and let go.

Typically when it fired there was about a 2-3 second delay in which a hissing could be heard, then a BOOM! occasionally it wouldn't go so well and evrything would kind of roll out of the barrel instead.

Having done this in my garage on a whim, there are definitely a few changes I would make when doing my next one.

First, I would NOT put the nipple directly in the rear, apparently they were put on the side, pointed upward for a reason, as I learned shortly before tweezing small pieces of unburnt powder out of my face after firing from the hip (a bit of the pressure escaped through the nipple, which was pointed straight back, and was redirected up and to the sides by the hammer itself)

Hey, i still have my vision, lesson learned.

Next of course, i would not just screw a cap onto the threads of a pipe. Nothing went wrong here, but it makes me feel uneasy and I don't shoot it anymore for that reason.

And finally, I will obviously put more work into everything, build an actual trigger, a MUCH better caplock mechanism, and spend more on the material for a barrel, as that pipe is not the safest thing around.

I have to admit I was in full panic mode at that point, it was 2008, Obama looked likely to win, and I spent all my money on guns and ammo already, so I started trying to improvise weapons out of whetever i could find in different locations so I could practice and be able to survive in obama's post-apocalyptic gun free hell circa 2009+

That was the piece of shit i built using only stuff I could find around the house.

I made a gun at work too, but that was just a four winds ripoff. I used to stick empty soda bottles on the end and launch them across the large garage they had us sit in all day for some reason every day we didnt have actual work to do

it's fully banned. a few decades ago a gun manufacturer converted some open bolt subguns to fire without a trigger. you would load a magazine, pull the bolt back, and once you let go of the bolt it would empty the magazine (or jam). This was technically legal at the time. The manufacturer took advantage of the ATF definition of a machine gun, which at the time said something about a trigger being pressed. iirc they sold a bunch of them before the ATF changed the wording of the machine gun definition. i think they were called burp guns

Long gun with flintcock or older (matchlock, boxlock, I believe, there is a list somewhere.) are not considered firearms. All you need to be is eighteen so you can but the gun, gunpowder and balls.

Flintcock pistols require license, and percussion cap or more advanced also require license.

Antique weapons do not require a license as well. Been thinking about buying an antique percussion pistol, because I never got my restricted and unless I want to pout up with restricted licensing requirements (which I don't) antique pistols are the only ones I wille ver own.

Here's how a properly researched "hasty" zip-gun is made:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbcMwPdoEd0

There's a surprising amount of calculation and machining needed just to make what is essentially two tubes that go boom when you hit them together.

There's no reason to make shoddy, unsafe firearms when you can build it right, although I wish there were ways to build zip guns that didn't require actual machinery or welding.

This.

The ATF has never made a ruling on open bolt meaning anything, only that specific open bolt guns are considered easily convertible.

Keep in mind that doesn't mean that ATF wouldn't remove the disconnecter anyway and then kill you, your wife, children, and dog.
