Good evening /k/
I was just thinking. Hoppe's gun Solvents that it for removing copper isn't supposed to be used on nickel plated guns because it will eat the copper under it and cause it to flake off. If that's the case, shouldn't it not be used on chrome lined barrels?
Solvent and lubrication thread.
smith here.
I clean nearly every gun thru my shop with hoppe's and I've never had a problem. It's good for getting shit clean.
Your right about nickel plated guns tho, that said I generally don't get any nickel plated guns in. I just don't let solvent sit on them and don't use ammonia copper solvent.

Gunsmith buddy of mine uses G96 for most run of the mill shit, seems just fine and smells great

Thanks, but do you think it would affect the chrome lining like it would nickel? Or just make sure it doesn't sit on it to long?

Just use ballistol. Cleans, lubes and protects all while non toxic and water soluble.

>non toxic
it literally smells like death.

That's the smell of it killing all the toxins.

Still, it's considered a food grade substance.

smith back
It's not going to matter. If it makes you feel better, don't let it sit in the bore. I've never ever had a problem with this.
