Copped me a Winchester 94ae in .44mag for $330 AFTER tax, how'd I do famalam? Also Lever Gun general.
>>
Very nice. .44mag is great out of a lever gun. The ballistics boost from the longer barrel is like going super saiyan compared to a revolver.

>>32359263
Very well.

>>32359273
This. My uncle's go-to gun was a Marlin in .44 mag.

I have a rossi 92 in 357.

What should I get as my next lever fun?

44 mag Marlin or 45/70 lever.

Depends if you have revolver ammo. The .357 mag would be economical if you have .357/.38 already.

Rossi ranch hand in .45 colt with a almost full stock. Was shooting some 300 grain +p last week and damn does that have some power, this is my brush gun
>>
>>32360469
45 colt and get +p rounds, can easily overpower 44 magnum, and shoot cowboy loads for fun
>>
anyone got any tips as to different better sights. kinda want something besides a buckhorn.

I have a little bit of reloading supplies for 45/70 but I have a ton supplies for .357/.38 and a S&W model 66. Plus i already have a .357 Rossi rifle with a 24in barrel. I am mainly looking for something i can easily but a scout scope on and this is more handy. So I think i am gonna get the Henry sooner but I am really looking to get into a 45/70 down the road.
>>
>>32360768
I've shot my dad's 1895CB. Hell of a gun. Best lever gun setup IMO: loading gate on a barrel length mag tube, and side ejection port.
>>
>>32360893
I'd get a .45-70 govt marlin. It would be pretty easy to mount a scout scope and it would be diversify your lever and revolver gat collection.

I dont wanna start a new thread for this so I'll just post it on some "general thread"

I don't know much about firearms beyond nerding out over mechanical aspects. Only ever shot 22LR on a sportrange a few times.

But to my point:
I just watched Ian's "thumb trigger model" video and I am AMAZED by the technical simplicity of that rifle. Even given it has no magazine, it accomplishes a lot with a simple concept.

Why didn't more guns use thumb triggers? why is the concept so unheard of? normally Ian talks about that stuff when presenting weird and obscure weapons
And with regards to the modern renaissance of selfbuilt/minimalist weapons due to 3D printing, will we see maybe a rise in these as a rifle-version of the Liberator?
>>
>>32362932
>Not very safe
>Also not very sturdy
>Was a one try thing, totally alien to today's market
>Looks weird af, pretty disgusting if you ask me

It would sell terribly and offers basically no advantage to a standard trigger.

Only problem is it may have the shitty 1:38" twist rate, which can cause accuracy issues with the heavier bullets.
>>
Anyone rec a good all around scope for a Marlin 336c? Looking for something for deer and hog hunting that isn't a ton of $.
>>
>>32367955
Tasco makes good scopes for the money. I have some random $50 scope from them on my 30-30 and it holds up great innawoods
>>
>>32367955
A Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 is a pretty good option. Only $200 at Cabelas, and should sit pretty well above the hammer.

If that's still too much the Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 is $85.

You can always just go into the stores and shop around, but generally with a max range around 300m and optimum max closer to 150 you don't really need a lot of zoom, and the bigger the lens, the higher you have to put it over the bore, and since you have a hammer, you have to be sure it's not slapping the scope. The fixed 4x Bushnell my Grandpa put on his ( >>32361154 ) has maybe a millimeter of clearance at most, and is a 1.5"/38.1mm Objective.

reminds me of loading 40mm grenades from the muzzle of a launcher

> slam it in too hard and it goes off taking your hand with it

:shudders:

Now if the trigger was a button on the side of the stock/grip so that you could just push it (similar to a mag release button)...

You keep that safe by having another button on the other side that enables the trigger (if dropped or bumped into anything its not going to fire, would have to be just as weird a circumstance as it would be to get a normal trigger hung up on something despite the trigger guard).

>>
>>32370043
While .357 excels in a rifle length barrel, it does not have the power of .44magnum or .45 colt no matter how hot, just not a large enough bullet. I'd go with .44 magnum if you do not reload and .45 colt if you do reload. My friend has an old marlin in .45 colt and he reloads some rounds that are very similar to lighter .454 loads, hotter than you could load any .44 magnum to

It's definitely sharp. It's not so much the recoil energy as the recoil velocity that's the doozy. I only got a few dozen rounds 44mag rounds through it with the wood grips the first time I was out.
