>inb4 tapco stock and mag
Nice pupper op
Good taste.
I've been meaning to get tech sights and one of those metal upper heat shields, but just keep forgetting to get around to it. That's all I'll ever do to mine, although I have since put on a Strike Hard Gear buttstock clip pouch.
Any lefties on here ever switched the safety around?
>>32354730
Never bothered me enough to even think that it could be done
Nice dogger.
Also I think the Tapco stock can be OK if it's in black and if you DON'T then bolt a bunch of shit on it. A pistol grip just feels nicer for some people.
>>32354572
Where the fuck is your bayonet? Put one on before you post an sks thread again.
>>32354572
Haven't had time to shoot it yet. Don't even have any X39 yet.
>sold first sks in 2006 for $80
>had to buy an old battlefield pickup-looking fucker for $250 a few months ago and scrub it down
>spent 3-4 hours with my nephew cleaning this chicom broomstick
It's actually pretty damned accurate. Would do again.
>>32355438
Judging by the mismatched gastube cover, I'm thinking he might have bought this thing covered in Tapco and the bayonet removed, then put it in a proper stock later.
config #1
config #2
>>32355534
Actually looks pretty alright, but I think you should ditch the Tapco mag, if you want detachable mags, you should have a gunsmith convert it to take AK mags, like the Chinese D model.
Looks good with a bakelite mag inserted.
>>32355534
Also if you replaced the wood pistol grip with a plastic one, fitting flush against the trigger guard, you'd get a bit of a AC556 aesthetic to it.
>>32355558
I agree. I think the tapco mags in conjunction with the stock magazine release are utter garbage, I just put it in there for the "look". one day I will rig up a magazine release similar to an AK and ditch the duckbill mags
>>32355582
that would be neat, although I found it was pretty tricky to get a decent pistol grip without completely blocking the takedown button on the back of the trigger.
my $200 molot refurb sks
i'm not sure how I feel about the painted finish that was applied at molot... we'll see how long it lasts.
>>32354572
First sks, don't know shit about it. Came with original wood stock as well. I was planning to do something silly with it.
>>32355744
I know that stock...
I tossed it out the back when I got a regular one.
>>32355752
It's mall ninja, for sure. But, whatevr. Cheap gun. I want to do some mad max fallout type treatment. I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to it or not..
Is there something wrong with me if i find the sks (and mosin) absolutly ugly?
>>32355773
Nah, they are pretty ugly. The only reason I own two sks' is that my local store sells them for $199
>>32354572
>build
>SKS
It looks like somebody else built your rifle, friend.
>>32355773
They are pretty average looking as far as military autos with conventional stocks go.
I think they look kind of interesting in these stocks, but I hear they aren't very good (the folder wobbles).
>>32355619
Make sure you do it properly, you'll need to modify the receiver, stock, and the bolt, as well as make and attach a magazine release, it can be done, and it's not complex, but it can be fucked up.
>>32355525
Explain the magazine configuration, please. I'm not an SKS guy but I spend half my working year in Canada. This looks like everything you can ask for in a legal rifle up yonder.
>>32355773
is not Hollywood prostitute
is gun.
rifle is fine.
>>32355935
in canada, semiautomatic centerfire rifles are limited to five round magazines only. pistols on the other hand are allowed 10 rounds. apparently somebody made a 7.62x39 XCR-L in a pistol configuration and made 10 round magazines to go with it.
The magazine adapter allows me to use 10 round XCR-L pistol magazines. The magazines seem just as reliable as the stock fixed magazine.
>>32355525
Metro/10
I love it.
>>32355525
what heatshield?
>>32356118
I'll have to get this. What's it take to get it to fit an sks?
>>32356230
http://hical.ca/sks-ventilated-handguard/
>>32356288
it takes grinding or milling of the reciever, bolt, and stock. hical.ca does the installation for $50
>>32355744
ayyy, I have that stock too. My only problem is that if you want to replace the dust cover you have to take out the trigger system first. just sort of a pain
>Tfw asked the Wep Techs to remove the rear sight, since there was some permenantly attached pin-inside-a-double-mushroomed-pin bullshit, and I lack tools
>He somehow managed to have the bit slip and do this
AHHHHHHHHH IT'S RUINED
FUCK
I CANT EVEN SELL IT LIKE THIS REEEEEEE
>>32355525
what's the scope/mount configuration here?
>>32356457
svd style scope rail drilled and tapped into the reciever, and a POSP 4X24T scope
>>32356445
should have done it yourself. doesn't look that hard.

>>32356488
>svd style scope rail
any specific one?
>>32356318
Good info. I havent even shot it yet. Bought it a few months back and it's just been in my safe. I'll get around to it.
>>32356575
this is the rail I have, but I made an extension for it that makes it sit further down on the rifle.
http://www.eastwave.ca/products/scopes/sksrail.html
the extension I made is similar to this:
http://kalinkaoptics.com/molot-sks-original-rail-with-rivets.html
Old pic but no real new additions.
>>32354572
thats a pretty nice dog u got there
>>32356924
Shoo shoo, fed!
>>32354662
sleep tite pupper.
>>32356841
so you just bought the rail and by "made an extension" you really mean you literally made your own mount?
>>32357134
looks great. I'll definitely shell out the extra $ for my lacking of such skills.
>>32354572
Cute dog.
My Norinco /316\
>tfw 1954 Russian SKS with lovely wood
And then the import marks and not original bayonet really ruins it. Been awhile since I've taken a good look at it but I believe most if not all parts are matching too.
But the import marks

My chinese Import. No stamps or marking on it other than a Kengs import stamp. Selling it to some guy in AZ for 550 right now, just waiting on FFL info.
My only SKS at present is this 1950 Tula. I had a Yugo M59/66 years back.

Here's a closeup photo of the rollmark.

I'm glad nobody posted SKS-chan. i always feel like shit when she is posted.
>>32359970
blued bolt; that means it was refurbished right?
>>32360048
Yes. This is also evidenced by the refurb mark above the date here:
>>32359987

Just order a new stock online.
It can even be a plastic one.

>>32356445
That's entirely fixable. Just go to a machine shop and ask them to weld in the holes and re drill for the pins. No big deal. If the difference in finish bothers you, just sharpie over the weld till it darkens up. You can literally fix that for like 15 bucks
Here's my C series yugo m59. Production numbers place it as the last rifle produced during 1964
Also
> all this chinkshit
I had two chinese rifles and sold both of them because the sights were so bad the rifle couldn't be zeroed. Also own two 1954 tula's
>tapco stock

>>32359940
>selling a bubba norinco for 550
If that guy is stupid enough to buy it, more power to you I suppose
>>32356445
Worst case you could have that rear sight ground off and the spot refinished, then get aftermarket peep sights to put on the rear of the receiver.
If you get that "pistol" magazine adapter for it too, it would be a quite nice rifle.
>>32354572
>>32363534
How is that stock? I'd heard some people say that it's made from really soft wood and it gets damaged easily.
>>32355809
Canada?
1956 tula laminated stock.
>>32363542
Is it bubba if the importer did it? The guy collects Kengs imports he says they're super rare. Hes paying though, so i dont care.
Type 56 'Nam bringback. Has VC blood on the sling.
>>32364495
Gook blood on the original NVA sling
Norinco civilian import.
I am the second owner of it, the first owner bought it in the 80s for super cheap and then stashed it in grease until 2016 where I bought it for $100
>>32364513
Battlefield trophies are neat as shit.
Reminds me of that Type-56 AK which Ian showed off (which ended up going for like 130k dollars somehow)
>>32364573
Yeah dude. I have a thing for bringbacks. My Luger was brought back by my great grandfather and my Gewehr 98 was a bringback as well.
I still don't understand how that Type 56 went for $130k but the North Korean AK went for only like $15k or something like that.
>>32364633
Well, it was a battlefield trophy, a bringback, sold by guy who 'won' it and with his story attached, that's got an appeal.
It is a select-fire AK which is transferable, that's a HUGE draw.
It was in very good condition, another bonus.
But what happened was that two rich guys got in a heated bidding war during the auction, so this assault rifle which would have gone for maybe $35000 normally, just happened to be bid up to $130000+
Like winning a lottery ticket.
Are there any nice aftermarket wood stocks with a beyonet cut?
I really love the SKS, I'm a dirty peasant who can't into semi-autos due to the state; but when I went abroad and fired a Ruskie SKS and a Chink AK I greatly preferred the SKS.
>>32364845
What state?
And yeah something about the SKS makes it intrinsically more fun to shoot. It's hard to explain to people who haven't shot one.
>>32363646
How well do those sights fit? I was considering getting one but I don't want to permanently remove my breakdown pin for a sight that may not even hold its zero every time I clean my rifle
>>32365123
>What state?
Orwellian state of England. I have funs, but only bolt and lever actions.
Although they were both short I didn't actually compare the length of pull on the two, it was a dark tourist range shithole in Eastern Europe where you could barely see the targets (some old soviet tunnel with half of their lighting out), but the SKS shouldered better and I felt like I had a more natrual and better positioned cheekweld. I liked the recoil impulse better and overall it just felt more ergonomic to me; I was expecting the opposite. I suppose it might be because I am used to straight stocked bolt actions and the L85, the AK felt more foreign.
>intrinsically more fun to shoot.
There's just something nice about it, it's like it's happy with what it is and it wasn't asking much. I mean it's about as basic and barebones as a semi-auto can get. It doesn't even have a pistol grip, it doesn't have anything a modern rifle has but it works and you're happy with that. At least that's the feeling I got in the brief time I had with it.
If you're still rockin' the original front iron sight post, why haven't you picked one of these up yet?
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1323222756/kns-front-sight-ak-47-sks-ball-post-steel-black
Well the mag isn't tapco
My '58 Romanian. Need to take it out soon. It's such a joy to shoot.
Just the right amount of wear. I love it.
>>32367257
sexy. I wish that the were more non-refurbs in canada. It seems like every sks up here is minty and lacking in character.
So I've been seeing these a bit, mostly being of interest to Canadians.
Though you can obviously utilize multiple detachable magazines, is there anyone who just use one of these pistol magazines as a substitute for the gimped fixed magazines and just loads from the top like usual?
>>32368930
i've done it once or twice with mine, but the xcr magazines seem a bit stiffer to load via clip compared to the stock sks magazine.
SKS thread? wew
>>32365281
I've only heard good things about tech sights so my inference is that it mounts quite tightly. My further inference from that would be that, when tightened down, it would be in the same position each time, or at the very least if it moves zero a little it would be negligible when compared to the accuracy that the SKS attains.
>>32367257
Absolutely gorgeous. Back when I got my Yugo, not even a week afterwards when I was in a little gun and tackle shop there was a Romy SKS that looked very near identical to yours. Beautiful patina, and the action was so well broken-in that it was absolutely butter smooth. My Yugo was either unissued or refurbished, so next to it that Romanian was pure sex in terms of the action. If I hadn't just bought my Yugo (especially since it was my first gun), I'd totally have traded or preferred that Romanian.
Got it all disassembled, waiting for a day off work so I can go and remove all the cosmoline, going to try boiling water this time though what should I do for the stock and barrel?
Quick question:
Would a Yugo SKS be more accurate if the gas system were set on manual action?
>>32369487
Send it straight to the oven.
Makes your house smell like a Russian armoury. It's so nice.
