I'm planning on finally getting a concealed carry permit but now I'm torn on two weapon choices. Currently the top two contenders are the M&P Shield 9m and Glock-43. I've got to shoot the 43 a good bit and I love how it's made for high thumbs. I'm about to go to a range that rents out the shield to see how it performs shooting wise. So far from what I held both weapons feel good but for some reason I'm leaning towards the Shield it just seems more comfortable and can carry an extra round.

What are some other good choices around the same price point. I would look at an SR9C but shit's too expensive
>>
>>32343469
Also side note. Held a few SCCY but thing felt clunky like a brick. Although I'm pretty close to one of the factories and people around here joke about taking a sledge hammer to theirs and getting a replacement for free.

You can get quality and reliable aftermarket base plates and extra power springs which increase your capacity without going beyond the size of the shield.
>>
>>32343469
I have trouble believing the sr9c is more expensive than the Glock 43 except in that one location. Their prices can drop down to $350 now that the American Compact is on the market. If you're happy with the Glock you should pick it over the Shield, the Glock is a bit shorter and has an easier slide and controls. Used Shields should also have been recalled for factory repairs so double check if you find an older model.
>>
>>32344519
the SR9C is also a double stack compact. it's not really comparable to the Shield or the 43.
>>
>>32344519
My main thing is I keep finding new Shields around $340 or so. If I did the G43 I would probably have to buy an extender and maybe even new sights. I could get a G43 blue label at $380 if I wait till the new year but I don't want to carry the same exact weapon as my gf.
and yeah if I could actually find a decent priced SR9C for that cost I would go for it just to have all the extra rounds.

Plus if the SR9C has the same trigger as the 40 then I know I'll love the pull and reset.

You can't go wrong with either of the guns you're considering.

I would change the Smith's trigger out for the Aprx trigger. Glock's plastic goal poast sights suck, and those would need to be replaced.

After carrying pic related for about a week, I want to carry something smaller so I can forget about it.
>>
>>32343469

The M&P9c. It is only MARGINALLY larger than the shield but can hold 12 rounds, has a bit of rail space for a light or laser if you want it, and has an arguably more comfortable grip with the pinky extension magazines and changeable back-straps.

Biggest issue is the price in comparison to the shield, but that price also reflects the quality of the machining and finish, which is always top tier with Glock products.
>>
glock 43 ~ $500

apex trigger ~$150

upgraded base plates ~$30/each (3 mags, 3 baseplates)

mag guts ~$23

total ~$763

-----------------

Shield 9mm ~ $350

apex trigger kit ~$150

bad ass base plates (not needed but awesome anyways)~ $15/each

Mag guts upgrade kit ~ $23

total $553

See I agree with pricing for the most part. But blue label only puts the difference around $50

But since you seem to own the shield and customized. How would you say it is during point and shoot instead of using the sights and going slow?
>>
>>32349730
>I have never been in a 10 foot radius of a Glock pistol and am actually underage
Glock has the best machining in the industry and one of the best finishes. Certainly a shit ton better than what you'll find on an M&P.
>>
>>32349764
point and shoot depends nothing on the pistol but on you, as for pricing blue label is for LEO and other public servants, if you fall under that category, great, if not, you're still going to get anywhere near the price of an M&P even in the used market.

>>32349766
i've owned many glocks including the 43, same shit "perfection", smaller package. Top tier would be the last thing that comes to mind when thinking of a tool that's used by more then half the world, rugged durability, yes, top tier finish? not from the factory, you show me a top tier competition shooter that runs a stock glock and places and i'll retract my statement.
>>
>>32349839
Well it's kind of a kick in the nutshell but my gf is the Bad ass Leo. Which is why I also kind of want a different firearm. That being said I've looked at a few torture tests Andy the shield hates sand which I'm around a lot ( of course I don't plan on it being sandy but you never know)
>>
>>32349839
>show me a top tier competition shooter that runs a stock glock
What the fuck does this have anything to do with the quality of the machining and finish. The way you type and the arguments you make are beginning to make me think you're pretty fucking stupid.

Glocks are ruggedly durable, along with having one of the most resilient and rust resistant finishes, and cleanest machining in the entire industry. You don't have to like it.
>>
>>32349922
Glocks and M&Ps are both mass produced with a nitrocarburized slide and injection molded frame. I own both the level of fit & finish is the same.
>>
>>32349876
you looked up the videos, you've seen the reviews, you have blue label pricing, IMO it's up to you if you want to drop the extra 50 bucks, my shield has never failed me even under the harshest conditions in my state of tennessee when training,

I like to get the most out of my dollar, so an extra 50 bucks to me could mean an upgrade that gives me that much more of an advantage when shtf

Don't even have to take it out of the holster to show it. Outside of more high end luxury guns, Glocks are the only guns I've ever handled where the machining is basically invisible. No machining/chatter marks on the slide or barrel whatsoever.

I carry this gun daily, rain or shine, sweating on it, and haven't bothered to clean it in at least a couple months, and still not a speck of rust.

Perfectly smooth and clean. Whereas you can use the surface of an M&P as a fingernail file. That is if you don't mind scratching the finish.

Not OP here. I'm also looking into concealed carry and I've narrowed it down to Shield 9 and a Kahr CM9.

I've shot a friend's CM9 once and was surprised by how well it performed and truly shocked at how small it was for a 9mm, it was smaller than his .380 (forget what that was though). I've heard that Kahrs are really hit or miss though, I'd be okay with having a miss and sending it to get fixed, assuming it does get fixed, because for a 5'3" manlet that smaller size means a lot to me.

The Shield on the other hand I've just heard a ton of great things about, and my handgun that I own is a fullsize M&P9 no safety and I love it. Got a used police model about 6 months ago from Buds and I've shot about 2000 rounds through it so far with zero problems. I'm not sure if I could realistically conceal it though, so it may be a messenger bag gun which is close enough considering I'd never be more than a few yards away from it at work.

I recognize that I still need to look more into methods of CCing but that's what I think I've narrowed it down to, any other suggestions would be welcome. Didn't like the Glock 43 just by holding it at the range.

Shield 9 bearer here. Just wanted to weigh in. Ive been walking around with the shield in 5 o'clock in a hybrid inside the waistband holster since the day I got my permit last year and some months ago.

The aesthetics of the weapon are superior to the glock imo so that was a major selling point along with the thinner profile and lighter weight. Regarding aesthetics, this is entierly personal but I get off on the fish scale style slide serrations. If my model had the front serrations for press checks it would be nice with sweaty/wet hands but its a small issue to buy another slide or have my slide machined, regardless they are not required but I press check daily cause safety ocd and have no issues.

Having lugged this thing around on my hip now for a year every day religiously especially at work and in public around friends and family and basically everywhere except inside the shower and pool. It is incredibly light and thin which was my chief concern really. I wanted the lightest gun I can enjoy in a proven defensive caliber. I never expect to have to draw this weapon and have to use it outside of the range however I want to carry this weapon at all times, thus the light 9mm with 8+1 cap.

The gun is very accurate after I learned how to shoot it. I found the grips too thin and slippery. I added a hogue rubber grip condom which added some miniature palm swells. This fixed my giant sweaty meat hands problem. However due to my giant hands I kept hitting slightly lower left... Turned out my finger is too long to operate the trigger with the pad. So I just let the weapon teach me how it wanted to be shot. She likes to be finger fucked deep in the trigger well. This is the only weapon I fire with the power crease instead of the pad. I am a surgeon with this thing now in bedroom distances. I also started shooting offhand with a light kant as well as a slight kant to duelist. I also practice a little CAR with it every time I take it to the range.

Hey OP!

I have an SR9C. Just got my LTC permit this week, and since it's winter here in Texas I gotta say the SR9c is perfect.

However, since it is Texas, the summer is way different. I'm thinking of getting an LC9 for my summer carry. Do temperatures vary that much in your state?

I don't understand all of these edc or ccw threads focused on single stacks. Lower capacity, very thin to grip if you've got average to large hands, and most likely will not be as durable as a double stack subcompact.

I mean if you're looking at a glock 43 or shield it is not that much more difficult to conceal a glock 26 or m&p9c. I've been able to conceal my glock 26 in business casual outfits or while wearing shorts and t shirts using various holster types. A deep concealment holster and a iwb kydex holster along with a good belt allows me to conceal the gun in all outfits and means I carry everyday and everywhere.

Why settle for a G43 when the G26 exists?
Why settle for a Shield when the M&Pc exists?

A fraction of an inch of thickness is hardly noticeable unless you wear faggy women's jeans, and the extra round capacity and compatibility with 15-rd magazines is always a welcomed feature. It was one of the reasons I sold my Shield for almost the same price I bought it at, the main reason being the shitty factory mag springs that came with it.
