Looking at other guns on the internet, these seem unique. What are they? What do they do?
>>
Those are underbarrel buffers. If you use both barrels without them the barrel splits like a banana.
>>
>>32337476
But it's not on the barrel. It's on the ammo tube.
>>
>>32337744
The second barrel, yes.
>>
>>32337797
>>32337476

How come some barrels don't have those?
>>
>>32337860
Those barrels are just for show usually. Some shotguns have really receiver crappy support so the underbarrels hold the bolt assemblies in place. On those models the shells actually get pulled out of the stock magazine into the carrier, which is why cheap shotguns feel like they have hollow stocks.

Wtf is going on in this thread

I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea what you're talking about.

This is a Mossberg 500, btw. Because of these rings, I have difficulty attaching my fore-end to the gun after taking it apart.

Notice how it looks different from other pictures

Is everyone here on drugs?
>>

You're being trolled my man.
>>
>>32338134
>>32338150

It's not our fault you don't know anything about shotgun underbarrels, maybe you should lurk more.
>>
>>32338116
Yes, not all of them seem to have those. They either are supposed to create a tight forend fit or have something to do with the pump grip or magazine spring. The only advice I know of to get it back on is lubrication and light polishing as a last resort.
>>
>>32338301

Like, I guess I'd have to wait for an actual Mossberg 500 owner, because this thing won't go back on.
>>
>>32337172
Those are spacers that help keep the pump fore-end from having too much side-to-side play while giving you minimal contact area (less drag, easier to cycle).

If you have trouble putting the fore-end back on, try lightly lubricating the spacer farthest from the receiver with white lithium or aluminum-based grease. The second spacer (the spiral-shaped one) should have better clearance and probably doesn't need to be lubed.

Hope this helps.
>>
>>32338438

See, the spiral one is actually the third spacer. It's not in between the others. Does that make a difference?

>>32338116

Would you mind helping out with this issue?

its old
they changed the design of the forend
the new ones have detents in the forend tube so only those depressions touch the magtube
on the old ones the front ring is the load bearing surface between the forend and tube the spring lets you pump a little faster

for the old mossbergs you need to unscrew the whole magtube to remove the forend

Alright thanks boys, but I'm wondering, the forend essentially won't go back on. It doesn't attach to the metal piece things, as shown here.
>>
>>32338134
What, are you not on drugs? Why the fuck would you come here if you're not on drugs?

can you post a couple more pictures? i think you actually broke the forend is there a metal tube in the wood?
>>32337172
doesnt look normal the front of the slide should not look like that
it should look like this but youve only got the back part

if it is broken you need to replace the forend and the magtube at the same time since newproduction forends are not compatible with that old magtube
>>
>>32338848
yeah thats shits broke. did you use retard strength removing the wood?

Yeah there's a tube. Like I said, the leg things aren't attached but apparently they should be?

I was pretending I was shwarzanigger doing the one hand shotgun cock. Did that break it?

XD

yeah that and age probably that magtube dates it to a minimum of 30 years old
you need to buy
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/373588/mossberg-action-slide-tube-assembly-6-3-4-mossberg-500-a-590-12-gauge

How do I find out the measurements? Could I get it repaired at a gunsmith's?
>>
>>32339140
get a ruler for the forend
for the magtube how many shells fit it your gun?
>>
>>32339153

Fuck, I literally bought it today, I have no idea. I guess I'd have to try.
>>
>>32339188
gunsmith can probably weld/braze tube back on. or just replace parts for you. the parts arent hard to install yourself its just screwing unscrewing

>>
>>32339216

Thanks man. I'm in Canada, and it's technically a Lakefield 400g, which is just a different name for a Mossberg 500. I'll take it to my local gun smith tomorrow. Think it would be cheaper to buy my own piece or just have him do it?
>>
>>32339253
duuno enough about the canadian market to say. you got midway prices to use for reference though.
>>
>>32339000
Why on earth would you fuck with something that old and put it through stresses it wouldn't normally receive new?
>>
>>32339294

Didn't know that a one-handed pump would be considered a severe stress. First shotgun.
>>
>>32339352
You're slamming the whole gun down hard?
>>
>>32339402
Yep.

Now I know not to :)

Didn't even know it was a no no bueno move

For future reference, if you ever buy a revolver. Don't spin the cylinder and flick it shut with one hand a million times.
>>
They keep the forend from rattling when its locked
