I'm having a really hard time deciding on a first 1911. In the huge range of options where is the sweet spot?

I really enjoy my Sig. Put close to 2500 rounds through it no issues. It's also my carry piece. I would like to replace the grips with something slim and A E S T H E T I C but I'm pretty bad at imagining what something will look like. Grip reccomendation?
We already have a thread about 1911s ya dingus!

This if you're looking for a GI model. About the same price as the RIAs and Tisas, but comes with Checkmate magazines. 350-500 dollaridoos depending on model
If you want something a little more fancy without breaking the bank try the Sprinfield Loaded. Should be able to get one for a little over 700 dollaridoos.

>If you want something a little more fancy without breaking the bank
Or, you know...Auto Ordnance

Didn't recommend one because I've never used one of the fancier AOs. I own the BKO and it's been flawless, so has my Loaded so anecdotal evidence forms my bias.

If you want value go RIA.
If you like a certain brand, get it.
Otherwise, look at what you want..
>I don't want hammer bite.
Get a beavertail.
>I want usable sights.
Don't get shitty "military" notch sights.
>I'm left handed.
Get an ambidextrous one or be prepared to sink time in money into converting.
>I want to conceal carry
Go with a commander size.
>I want to dress up like a WW2 infantryman.
Get a reproduction "GI" model or spend thousands on an authentic era Colt.
>I just want a good 1911 for actual use.
Get a Springfield Armory 1911.
>I enjoy looking like I don't know shit about guns.
Get a Kimber or SIG.
>>32335394
just get a colt 1911a1 or a springfield milspec
avoid at all costs due to shit quality:

How's the ruger SR1911? I was debating between that and.. I think either remington or springfield... Idk it's been a while, but I was looking at the Ruger primarily
>>32336407
I haven't shot them but the 9mm Ruger 1911 is complete and total garbage shit tier gun. The .45 is probably better and it's more "true" for the purists. I'd get the Springfield though, even despite their south american frames and marketing bullshit. Are you going to carry it in the waist band? 5" barrel is too long for that despite, IMO, being the proper length for a 1911 barrel.

My own experience is my friend.
AO had problems, but when Kahr bought them (many, many years ago), they straightened things out. Learn to weed out old information.
I'd go colt, SA, or Sig. I do however have a Citadel and it works well.

This. I built pic related on a forged AO frame.

I have shot 3 1911. All in.45acp. A Ruger, RIA, and Kimber. Ended up buying the Ruger because the trigger seemed smoother and it had a nice quality build. Didn't Burt that Cabelas had them for $600.

Make your first a GI pistol then you will have a reference to compare everything else against.

Do old ass WWII GI production models really stack up to any kind of modern 1911?
