Was some XD at a range, I think. First rifle was an AR15, and I burned my hands like an idiot on the gas block. I fell in love with my friend's nugget though. I don't get why so many people hate it. Loading, shooting, and reloading is fun as fuck on that thing and I just love the donkey kick feeling when you pull the trigger.

Feels good man. I wasn't super interested in that thing for years after that, then one day I decided I was really interested in guns. On my eighteenth birthday I really surprised my whole family by going out and buying myself a Remington 770 at Academy. Now I know it's "Remingshit" and all that, but that was how I got myself back in to guns. Now my grandpa will open his safe every now and then to show me his (originally his father's) guns, including but not limited to: Springfield 1903, sawed-off side-by-side held together with some kind of brass wire, Colt Dragoon, Winchester 1894 in some obscure cartridge size I don't remember, various other old revolvers, some kind of flintlock something or other, and a Mauser K98 with Nazi eagle on it.

Was nogunz for years after I left home at 18 but got back into them a few years ago.
>>
Disappointed, was about 8. I was lying prone with a .22lr semi-auto rifle and firing at a paper target. There was no recoil so I just emptied the magazine. The retard that got me to shoot it had no idea what he was doing so all I got was "pull this trigger." Shooting a 9mm for the first time at a range was much better.

Well, living in Croatia, I underwent a physical exam and psych eval before getting a weapons permit for a pistol (permit to own, not carry) and had a LEO interview me and randomly interview a few of my neighbors. LEO was a reasonable dude, my neighbors are OK and I'm not a fucktard so I got my license easy-peasy and I do have some regulations to follow when transporting weapons to a range. Where there's will, there's a way.

I actually never shot a gun until I was 23. I went to Vegas with a couple buddies and decided to spend the morning doing something besides gambling. We went to a range off the strip and I got to fire a p226, auto mp5, and auto m4. pretty great first experience, except for the mp5 jamming every 3 rounds. I got a semi when the RO said my aim was fantastic for a first timer.

>First time firing a firearm in general
Pulled the trigger on a shotgun my uncle had shouldered on New Years 1999/2000 when I was 9 years old. Can't remember much about it, but I recall muzzle blast I think. It was pretty exciting. My mother probably hated it... my father as well. He's a huge pussy; literally thinks "all guns should be melted down". Direct quote.

>First time shooting a firearm myself
About 15 years old, different uncle, Remington model 1100 semi-auto shotgun. He said it was very dirty and needs to be cleaned/oiled, won't function properly in semi-auto. I believed him. Only loaded one shell at a time. Shot a beer bottle out of the sky near a river, it was awesome. My ears were ringing for hours due to having not been given ear protection. I was like a giddy fucking school girl for hours, and I think that night I also got drunk for the first time with said uncle and my father.

>First time shooting a pistol
About 17 years old, went to the shooting range in West Edmonton Mall, first firearm I shot there was a Springfield XD40, of course in .40 S&W. Sweating fucking bullets, I was around 200-240lb probably, with minimal muscle mass because I was a hardcore gamer who hated sports and NEVER worked out. Flashbacks of the Joker in 1989's Batman going through my mind where the recoil literally throws him back.
>White-knuckle that fucking .40
>Sweat in eyes
>Vision probably blurry in anticipation and excitement... and sweat
>Put sights on target
>White-fucking-knuckle that cunt
>Pop
>Look at the pistol like "that was fucking it?"
>Empty the remaining 9 rounds in probably 3 seconds at most.
>Laugh

I was a 5'11 or 6' tall 200lb+ fatso teenager who was nervous as shit at firing a .40 cal because of a movie that came out before I was born. Went on to fire just about every cartridge they had available except .22lr; 9mm, .45, .357, .44 Magnum, .38 Special, and perhaps .38 Super. Smile plastered on my face all day, sniffed my hand on occasion.
>>

Not OP, but they're way, way stricter over here.

Pistols in their regular forms are banned, unless they're special ones for killing animals humanely or over 24 inches long (So you see pictures of pistols people have put horrendous wire stocks on a lot of the time.) This also apparently made the Colt Buntline weirdly popular amongst collectors over here, because it fits the bill.

Rifle-wise, they only give out ones for single-action rifles, but it's supposedly extremely rare. Only semi-autos we're allowed are .22.

The official line is that you need a "good reason" to want to own a gun and be sane enough that you won't murder people. Said good reasons tend to be needing it for work, competitive shooting or being a collector (Although how one is supposed to start a collection under these guidelines is beyond me)

Self defence isn't considered a good reason, and one must re-apply every five years.

Apologies for the wall of text, but it's a subject that interests me.

When was this? I was in elementary school in the very late 90s/early 2000s, there might've been one or two teachers in the whole school that would let you do this without sending you to the principal and then possibly calling the cops.

Today the teacher would probably evacuate the room and call the police immediately after seeing the deadly ammunition casing.
>>
>>32338642
Oh yeah, I also fired .45 Long Colt, likely in an M1873 Colt Single Action Army replica. The owners of the Wild West Shooting Centre are big on Cowboy Action Shooting. Alberta (Edmonton is the capital of that Province) is like the Texas of Canada. It's always a Conservative-voting Province, too. They're kind of fucking crazy over there, and not to be trusted on the roads, but I respect them for being so consistently Conservative.

I wanna say 2001-ish?

Not gonna lie, I was kinda the teacher's pet at the time, she was real hippy-ish and basically having to deal with trying to teach a bunch of little shits English, and I was the only one who'd willingly read books, so I'm pretty sure I could've wandered in with the aforementioned shotgun slung over my shoulder and she'd have been like "Interesting!"

People aren't as weirded out by guns in England as you'd think. As long as you don't pull one out, at least.
>>
>>32338726
2001 is post-Columbine. Security at schools went crazy in America after that, I hear. Glad to hear that England is sensible. I'm not from England, but thankfully, I'm not from America either.

To be fair, y2k would've been the perfect opportunity for the soviets to strike. We were all so worried the computers were going to kill us that we completely missed all those Russians coming.
>>
>>32338726
I live in a 'conservative' area of the Calistan People's Republic. It's basically just a business-worshipping place that is slightly less socially liberal than the surrounding areas. Still many vocal anti-gunners and most people are afraid of guns.
>>
>>32338787
Yup, Y2K certainly was a big thing. Not long after Y2K (basically before 9/11), people were saying that it was because they thought the computers were only set for dates in the 20th century. Once the 21st century hit, computers would like, stop functioning or some shit. In 1999 before New Years though, I recall people being all 'global meltdown' and shit about it. Nobody really KNEW what was going to happen, but something BIG was goin to happen. I was only 9 at the time though, so y'know, others might have a better memory on events/culture of the time, not to mention simply being in other parts of the world would probably influence what people believed were going to happen.

... wait, the Soviet Union broke apart in 1991 or something like that, wtf are you talking about? There were no Soviet Russians in 1999/2000! I don't think the Russian Federation was as powerful then as the Soviet Union was prior to when they broke up. Now though is an entirely different matter; I'd say the Russian Federation of today is probably still not quite as BIG as the Soviet Union, with probably not as many people or as big of a Military, but they've come a LOOOOONG ways technologically. If Russia, North Korea, and China go full-retard and wage all-out war with America, I'd say America would get their asses handed to them. North Korea would probably be invaded by South Korea in the process and thereby get overrun, especially if the Chinese don't help defend their borders, but America would be taken.

2000 Russia vs 2000 America? Nah, I don't think so. 1980 Soviet Union vs 1980 America? We might be on to something... could be interesting... and possibly nuclear. Nukes don't cause as much devastation as people think though. Not as much devastation nor as much radiation, so a FallOut scenario can't realistically be done. Major population centers would cause a HUGE drop in population if they were nuked, but as for worldwide devastation, nah.

08-09 college. trip by the outdoor club to a gun range. Buncha girls, me and a few guys. Try the Springfield XD and some .38 revolver (although the guy tried to ward me away from the revolver with the whole "It's antiquated nobody should use a revolver in the modern day and age" sort of stuff. XD .45 had a kick I wasn't used to but would be fine with now, .38 was nice though outside of aesthetics I'm not a huge revolveraholic.

I had a thought of "holy shit this much power I'm never ever going to put it to my temple and an hero". Which sounds strange or dangerous but it was more of an awe and respect for their potency than literally wanting to an hero (beyond normal depression and wishing you were never born).

First rifle was AK74 and wondering if the gun even went off because of how the 7n6 ammo on the stock rifle had no fucking recoil. Years later renting an AR15 and probably because it was a rented range mule it actually jostled and moved in my grip whereas the AK74 was just like a fucking laser-beam-gun.

I regret selling the AK even if I made double profit and bought a high end P226. It was a Lancaster rough rider though and apparently lancaster became one of those here and gone AK brands because google Lancaster arms and the very first hit is "Lancaster Sucks" about their shitty AKs.

Still 500 bucks for a AK74 in 2010 stupid of me to sell it.

My dad doesn't really have any interest in guns anymore, he says he shot too much cool stuff in the Army nothing in the civilian world could excite him, not anti-gun just apathetic about it

mom has surprisingly warmed up to guns a lot, I'm 20 and have purchased 8 guns for myself and she's always interested to see what I got and wants to go to the range, but she still gives me grief for spending so much money on them.

Expensive, but damn fun. I went back when I was around 19-20 years old and literally spent around $300. Even shot a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle (jam-o-matic that I couldn't shoot as accurately as the .44 Magnum revolver I tried before it) and an HK USC (Semi-auto only HK UMP with a silly 18.5" or so barrel). Lots of fun.

>>32342346
I went to a range just outside of Edmonton before. It was alright, but I can't remember where it was and I don't know how expensive it is. I didn't live in Edmonton for very long. I'd suggest saving up some money and sticking to small stuff like 9mm. If you feel like showing off a bit, perhaps get half a box (25 rounds) of .44 Magnum (the biggest round they have to offer), but she'd probably be perfectly content with .22lr and 9mm. If you let her shoot something big like .44 Magnum, be sure to teach her all the proper stuff, keep her fingers away from the cylinder/barrel gap, hold on tight, and so on. If it's got a wooden/steel grip like I shot, I'd advise against it because the recoil will be pretty brutal. Rubber grip would at least help a bit. Also, only load one chamber for her first time. If she can handle it, then allow her to load more chambers.

Principal explained to me what it was, why it didn't have a 'primer' (I was curious as to why), and then he took it, which was fine by me. I was just happy to have learned something. Didn't get expelled or anything.
>>
>>32334730
It gave me a boner to squeeze the trigger and send a round downrange. The smell of gunpowder in the air was almost as good as my grandmother's perogies. It cleared my head and, if only for the few minutes it took me to go through 20 rounds (shooting for groupings), freed my mind from the worries and anxieties of my little world. It's one of the few things that makes me really, truly happy. It's right up there with performing as a musician, sex, cuddles, and having a good, cold beer after a 9-hour shift. It was and is one of the best feelings on earth.

First time I shot full autos was with my dad and his buddy from work. We were at some sketchy range behind a trailer park. First one was an H&K in 5.56, I think it was a 53. Was awesome, I was about 14 years old. Then I got to shoot a few belts out of an M60 at an old refrigerator. Was shooting off the bipod with the owner feeding the belt. Also got to fire some suppressed handguns. This was all around 2004 or 2005, I didn't realize at the time how lucky I was. One of the guys even said "Damn kid I didn't even get to shoot a full auto until I bought one for myself." Wish we stayed in touch with the guy now that I'm fully into firearms.

The first time I shot a gun was a shitty single shot .22 at boy scout camp. Aim was terrible. Got laughed at. Didn't get the Rifle merit badge 2 years in a row, failed the aim requirement every time. Shut up.

First time shooting anything bigger was with my redneck roommate in college. Shot his 1911 and 12 ga. in a gravel pit, and had a hell of a time. That's what really got me into the hobby.

Early 20's with a Sig 226 at vegas
Felt alright.

But I guess I really got into guns later in 20's and now I savor everything.

That concussive feel in the air, loudness goes hand in hand with this, but you feel that shit in your lungs.
That flash and small embers shooting out.
That heaviness you didnt expect in your hands.
And the smell. Smell being one of those things that engrain itself into your memories.

Nothing quite like shooting guns. You feel the shots and recoil. You see the flash and spectacle. You hear the loud thunderous crackle. You smell the gunpowder and gun oil. You taste some faint sweetness in your mouth after a good amount of shooting.

First time, 12 years old, fired a .22 pistol at an indoor range. 50 rounds, went home.
I'm told that something unusual happens first time you fire a gun, but my first time was just like the next dozen times. (Except nobody taught me how to aim yet.)
First time I fired a rifle sized firearm, chambered in something greater than .22, was a 12 gauge shotgun. I had to step back to absorb the recoil, but it was fine. My arm was sore the next day, but no bruising.
I tell you, this man in the picture is a baby, if he had it worse, firing a 5.56.

Started me off with a .22 when I was 13 but when I was younger he would let me take em apart and clean em, as well as let me practice drawing and working the action. I shot a lot when I was in highschool. Mostly pistols, m9 glock 17 and a bunch of old berettas and llamas. Some colts and eventually 1911s.

Now Im working a good job and got an AR and AK, a mosin, and 3 pistols of my own. Planning on either a G3 or FAL next.

First time was in Navy Recruit School (ausfag, not much opportunity growing up)
Finally go to the range after 3 days of theory/dry drills.
Felt awesome for the 1st magazine, by the end of the day everyone was bored as fuck and couldn't wait for it to be over.
Fucking Navy even manages to make shooting shit boring

>googled Colt Buntline
AHAHAHA!
The Joker gun! Glorious!

Over here in canuckistan, the freedom isn't on-tap like it is down in the states, but I am starting to think we may be #2.
+costs about 400 maplebucks and a weekend safety course to get license
+can own almost any gun. No FAL variants or G11 because the RCMP watches too many 80s action flicks
+no caliber limits. So 20mm or artillery is fine if you have the dosh
+90% of the country is "Crown Land". Which means it is ok to hunt and shoot there for everybody.
+RCMP is really lazy about enforcement, so as long as you don't do anything flamboyantly dumb, you won't be made an example of. Probably 50% of Canadian gun owners are noncompliant in some way.
+Canadian gun laws are getting LAXER and gun ownership is up 10% this year.

-mag limits. 5 for rifle, 10 for pistol, no limit for .22lr or manual action.
-no carry laws. By far the worst part
-legally have castle doctrine, but prepare to go broke and lose your guns trying to defend yourself in court. You will win eventually, but they will RUIN you.
-very specifically ARs are not allowed on crown land. A bullshit law with no basis in logic.
-supposed to be stored in a "locked location". This wording is too vague. Have seen cops interpret this as anything from "must be in an anchored safe" to "your home office has a lock, right? So the office is a locked location"
-there is a law on the books, although I have never heard of it being enforced, that prohibits "hoarding ammunition". This is so vague, it has given me nightmares of police raids ever since I read about it. There is no legal definition of "hoarding" in the criminal code.

I was somewhere between age 5 and 8. Can't quite remember the first time. I've always done it and it has always been great.

I remember doing a similar thing when I was younger, but on a much smaller scale.

>Buy a bag of party poppers from shady ass guy at a flea market
>half of them were defective
>got an expensive pen with a metal tip and put the explosive charge through it.
>wait for when my parents leave home.
>load airsoft BB into pen
>duct tape to a stool
>point at some cardboard, pull string
>BANG

The BB flew clean through the cardboard and impacted some wood. because I was doing this in my room I was hearing the "EEEEEEEEEE" sound for a while, I was lucky enough to get it all on camera too. I did learn enough to conduct all subsequent tests outside though.

>be me, 13-ish
>up north, my mom is introducing my siblings and I to her then-boyfriend (current fiancé)
>walk to a clearing in some woods (all private property)
>everyone there is shooting guns and tanked
>mom has siblings and I hide behind truck door while drunk people shoot guns
>ask if I can shoot too
>mom's boyfriend gives me one of his pistols (don't remember what kind, since I was raised noguns and this was the first time I had ever touched a real gun)
>shoot at a paper plate stapled to a tree

It was pretty awesome
