From what I'm reading it seems pretty bad. We have one destroyer, and some multi-use frigates as our main fleet.
>fucking diesel submarines from Britain..

Any sailors currently in want to give their opninion if it worth component transferring over to?

Is there some sort of cooperation between canada/uk army since they have the same commander in chief ?
>>
Canadian Navy

Personnel: 13,600
Destroyers: 1
Frigates: 12
Submarines: 4
Patrol Boats: 12
AOR: 0 (2 on order)

Australian Navy

Personnel: 14,215
Destroyers: 0 (2 Launched 1 being built)
Frigates: 11
Submarines: 6 (12 on order)
Patrol Boats: 13 (+2 leased)
AOR: 2 (2 on order)
LHD: 2
LSD: 1

Why is the Canadian navy so small for a population of 36 million?

Canada's real military might is the vast array of terrifying nature they keep hidden there. Every year those bastards send their geese over here. They're fucking huge and they're angry buggers as well. No wonder the Soviets never tried invading.

Thoughts on Canada ever getting a sub replacement? I think there's reasonable chance they'll lose the capability completely.

Because its a pacifistic country with limited natural resources, practically no export market, and no enemies that falls under official protection from the bongs and de facto protection from the burgers due to being America's hat.

Wow, talking out of your ass eh?

We've got tons of resources.

And 73% of our export market is too the USA.

Our military is shit because ever since we signed on to NATO and NORAD, the federal government has constantly reduced the Canadian military over the decades because the UK and USA has us completely protected.

Why have a military when they can waste money on welfare programs (aka: buying votes).
>>
>>32335170

I'm going to have to stop you there.

Canada quite literally has almost the same if not exceedingly more natural resources across the board than the United States.

>>
>>32334374
we bandwagon too often with the US, it creates a bad habit of saying the US will defend us every time so we don't have to take care of our armed forces. On top of that our new equipment acquisition process is disgusting. We have millions upon millions of funds frozen because the replacement for even radios takes forever.

I did some basic intelligence consulting for them and they politics involved in the procurement deals were fucked. The company who won the contract in BC for a handful of new ships?

THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A FUCKING DRY DOCK YET.

We can't keep our current ships afloat let alone replace them. It's pretty bleak my man.
>>
Canada slashed its military budget, and has spent next to nothing on new equipment for so long, putting it off as long as possible, that they now need to buy a lot of equipment, or give up on having a military.

http://www.nato.int/nato_static_fl2014/assets/pdf/pdf_2016_07/20160704_160704-pr2016-116.pdf

If you look at Table 3 & 6a, you can see that over the past six years Canada has averaged at barely more than half the recommended 2% of GDP military budget, and of that barely more than half the 20% of spending on equipment. No shit that this short-term stupidity has come back to haunt them.

Combined they are smaller than Italian Navy*

Amazing and bemusing, especially for Australia, given they are an island nation in Oceania.
Either they are undermanned or ours is too big.

*Italian Navy:
1 Carrier
1 Cruiser-Carrier
4 Destroyers
13 Frigates
4 Corvettes
7 Submarines
3 Landing Platform Dock Ships

You guys better get a good Navy in place soon, because Russia is going to declare the entire Arctic theirs if nobody looks mean enough to challenge them. Global Warming is happening. Oil and Gas under the sea, my syrup consuming friend. The Northwest Passage too. Canada's future will rise or fall on their ability to exploit the warming Arctic.

Also Russia is making claims that their continental shelf reaches all the way over to Canada, claims that would grant them an EEZ. You're gonna need a beefy navy and beefy air force + naval aviation to resist that. Canada is going to need some goddamn destroyers, some goddamn SSNs because USN will only be able to fulfil part of the patrol requirements, some goddamn MPAs, and fighters and tankers to cap it all off.

>>
>>32338351

>>
>>32337915
lol no. Russia is perfectly content to using the Arctic council as the basis of amicable relations with other Arctic states. They wouldn't dare escalate the Arctic, especially when they already have to deal with Europe and Japan (which might end since Abe and Putin might finally officially end WW2 by signing a peace treaty hand figure out what to do with the Kuril's). But what you say about the NWP is true, with the increasing traffic we will need to maintain a good arctic navy or coastguard in order to deal with the increased use and flow of goods/people. If we're talking about defense, what we need is attack subs that are capable of emerging through Arctic ice and some air force bases that are within reach of the Arctic circle, because apart from that most other if not all other tasks could be performed by the coastguard.

I could go on, but that's because the class on Canadian Arctic sovereignty I took in uni was decent and has a lot of material on it.

We have money for both, the F-35 program has been dragging on and inflating in price, despite still being the best option the government and citizenry got cold feet and had been for a while. Mostly the liberals jumped on it because it was something they could use for the election.

As for the ships, I'm really fucking sick of hearing people spout this bullshit that the Liberals are cutting back on them or 'don't have the money', because originally the Harper government told us they'd cost $25 Billion... then we found out that they'd cost closer to $100 Billion, meaning the liberals didn't so much as cut back on them but keep closer to the originally stated budget, because surprise surprise Harper was a liar.

The guy isn't even in the navy, the tanker is just going to be crewed by union sailoes.

The enemy literally has to drop one civilian ship to cripple the entire oil supply to the navy.
>>
>>32335643
You have lumber, ~2% of the oil on the continent (thats hard and expensive to get to due to oil sands) with limited capability to harvest it, and...thats about it.

Your export market is a joke that consists of driving across the border to the US, you dont really export to any other country.
