Also I think it's fair to point out that while the .276 Pedersen round was lighter, it wasn't substantially less bulky. The rim diameter was larger (based on the 8mm mauser parent case) and the substantially long spitzer bullet took the COAL to 2.855" compared to M1 ball's 3.340".
