Pacific rim.

While the idea of jaeger is ludicrous, It can do the one thing that a tank can't do. fight in the same weight class as theses monolithic titans that they are facing and keep it busy for tanks armed with all manner of anit kaiju weapons to get in place to bombard them with plasma, missile and warthog guns.

I genuinely don't know why they didn't build massive defenses around this breach, as soon as it comes out of the breach massive amounts of GAU-8 Avenger guns firing on this thing.

>bladed weapons were slaughtering kaiju left and right yet were not standard on a great deal of Jeager
>not manufacturing a network of underwater sentry guns with huge as fucking fuck payloads to nuke the living niggers out of any emerging kaiju

The last was my biggest gripe. If you know WHERE they emerge and you have the resources of the World at your disposal. You would set up a kill zone and slaughter them the moment they emerged. Take all the weapons and money and time you spent making man like giant makes and instead created a firing line of cannons that had as much firepower but only had to focus on one spot.

>>
>>32332933
IIRC, they say or show in the movie they fought (and killed) the creatures with conventional weaponry, but that the blood or something is very toxic.

The point of the robots was to bludgeon them to death instead (I guess the weapons they had were back-up in case the monster got the upperhand).
>>
>>32332949
The narration at the beginning said that the first one attacking the US took like a week to kill and eventually required a nuke.
>>
>>32332949
All the weapons they carry are designed to cauterize and wound. Like the main character's mech having plasma guns or the mech with the missiles using thermobaric warheads.
>>
>>32332999

I think the best way to kill theses giant monsters would be design a shape charge nuke.

Essentially the force of a nuke directed straight at the creature.
>>
>>32333802

So a casaba howitzer? Nuclear directed energy weapons if even possible of working would fuck up a kaiju.

Also if you have a breach like that? What's stopping you from sending nukes through like they did in the movie? Just take some high yield nuke and toss it through the hole. Fuck up those aliums.

I'm fairly certain a 5,000lb. JDAM dropped from 40,000 ft. would carry more energy and BTFO a kaiju harder than a giant mech punch. Even concrete bombs would probably work better.

Jaegers are cool though.
>>
>>32328643
>i'm coming into this thread way too late, but oh well

I don't think they can build much of anything around the Breach because it's in the middle of the Pacific Ocean at the bottom of the sea floor.

However, this does not make your idea bad.

They could've parked some very large nuclear bombs right above the breach. Every time a Kaiju starts coming through they could detonate it before the Kaiju can swim away. They could've also had a shit ton of submarines patrolling the area. Perhaps it would've been possible to convince every nation in the planet to park all their subs around the Breach. I don't think even a Kaiju could survive hundreds of torpedo hits.

This is all a moot point without the discoveries made in the movie though. Humanity might've been eventually screwed anyways, because the rate that Kaiju come through accelerates faster and faster with time. Eventually we would've run out of bombs/weapons even if we weaponized the hell out of the area. Also killing a whole lot of Kaiju in the ocean would've probably been very very bad for the ocean.

As mentioned above, the point of robots is to minimize the enviromental impact of the highly toxic kaiju blood, not send little parts of kaiju guts flying for miles.
>>
>>32332245
I think we need to protect each of these unique kaiju species. We must welcome them and make them feel like home and be tolerant of their ways no matter how unearthy they seem. It will only enrich our stagnant culture.

Napalm will not only stick to the target thanks to the polystyrene, the added White Phosphorous will burn under water.
After enough exposure to the intense heat, the monster would either
>1) Die of heat exhaustion
>2) Die of fire
Even if the monster had tons of scaly armor, Heat doesn't need to physically penetrate, and should the missile's explosion open up a Kaiju's blood vessels, the fire will cauterize those wounds on top of doing even more damage
And at "less" of an environmental impact as constantly setting nukes off
