On the flipside looking up serial number and details on grandpappy's PPK (Serial is 843533, N with crown above it on barrel and slide, RZM logo) seems to point to it being a 1934-1936 make with the RZM being the Reichszeugmeisterei and it seems like it'd have belonged to a proper nazi party member. I'm not an expert though and it could be fake for all I know but I like it (though I do need to get a replacement for one of the magazines that jams/doesn't eject properly. Obviously keeping that magazine on the off chance it's authentic though it lacks the serial on the spine).
I'm not parting with that PPK until I die and then it'll be passed onto my offspring or failing that a museum or some shit. But those two sporterized I'd be happy to be rid of. Might keep the SMLE since I think it wasn't bubba'd, just front wood portions and such gotten rid of.
>>32325251
Have a pic of that SMLE? Might be pretty easy to fix
>>32324175
What is Sporterised?
Grumpy Napoleon is on the hood of NASCAR?
Or does he have his own flavor of Gatorade?
>>32325533
I was checking the serial numbers and barrel and the receiver ring are the same, no serial for the magazine, none on the bolt. It's SMLE Enfield manufactory 1916 on the - I forget the term but metal piece where the buttstock and body of the gun join.
Top is argie mauser bottom is smle. Will post other pics of smle, but phone seems to be a bit shitty quality wise.
>>32325798
Also the green goop is from the froglube clp. Old can of it so if it's shit I'll switch to something else. Use hoppes for gun oil. And I get a bit OCD with oiling (even though I am fairly sure these rifles were last oiled before I was born in 1988, and god knows when grandfather #2 oiled the PPK last considering my mum and her family discovered it only after he passed circa 2010). Which in a dusty ass house with cattes means lots of little hairs.
>>32325779
>>32325798
I'm probably in the minority here, but those are actually fairly tasteful modifications at a glance, and at least they seemed to be done with some level of care. And if your granddad liked them that way, why not just keep those the way they are and buy some unmodified versions for your own use? SMLEs and Argentine mausers aren't THAT uncommon.
They're your rifles now, so feel free to do whatever you want to them, but remember that unique isn't always bad when it comes to old milsurps.
>>32325863
They aren't bubba'd definitely since the SMLE at least I think can be reverted back. I'm not familiar with the argie mauser but from what I'd seen it looks like there is something amiss with the barrel section. Also the argie's bolt action is the worst goddamn one I've experienced. Trying to cycle it is like trying to arm wrestle a giant but I'm not sure why - while the grip part is pitted the rest of it looks smooth, the area within the rifle looks smooth but locking it into place is far harder than it should be.
I could get behind refurbishing the SMLE but I've no real attachment to the Argie mauser as a rifle or in its history coupled with the more expensive ammo and the bolt locking.
Do you or someone else have a site to recommend when it comes to surplus SMLE accessories and such?

>>32325083
Don't worry, lad, there is a special place in hell for those that destroy history in such a tactless way. They shall have their day of reckoning.
>>32325555
Sporterized refers to taking a military surplus firearm like a K98 or an Enfield and turning it into a more civilian style rifle but getting rid of the hand guards and adding a scope mount, thus severely devaluing the rifle.
>>32325083
>abubbanation
Holy shit, this one got me.
>>32325779
All she needs is some new wood and she'll be good as new.
>>32325956
>They aren't bubba'd
Yea they are... they didn't get used like that.. the no1mk3 does not have a front sight barrel mounted. The metal finish is obviously redone, and the wood is irreversible altered.
Now you could refurb it, the barrel doesn't look shortened. I assume the front sight is just soldered on. The bluing is whatever. Replacing the wood and metal is expensive though and they were seriized to the rifle, and good luck finding NOS no1 parts
>>32325779
You'll need a new stock set and a new front sight and shed be good as new
>>32326014
Whatever that's stupid. I don't care what your kids lingo is.
>>32324213
I have 2 of those, I've restored the one to as orginal as I can get it. Still need the Kerr sling and bayonet.
The other I have in a sporterized stock (bought it already chopped on ebay) with the barrel stripped and a scope mounted in place of the rear sight. Everything can be taking back to orginal and I have all the parts.
The problem is the scope mount moves..so I kinda want to mill it, drill and tap it for real scope mounts...

>>32326137
I figure bubba if we want to be specific can refer to straight up butchering that is unfixable unless you take it to a gunsmith.
>>32326544
You might be stupid.
>>32325555
Sporterizing is taking an old milsurp rifle and making it easier for shooting sports (hunting) This means making it lighter any way possible, cutting the stock, cutting the barrel, adding scope mounts, etc.
>>32327078
A sported stock is relatively unfixable. It might be refurbishable. That 1903 in the add wouldn't be too terrible to bring back into original co figuration.
>>32327194

>>32327390
My mom knows Im a badass.
Tendies aren't free. I fought for that chicken.
>>32327390
I don't mind if it's not 100% matching parts authentic personally. Obviously it's worse to bubba/sporterize a rifle to begin with (unless you keep all the parts and it's as easy as change the stock back from your plastic fantastic shit to proper wood and metal and good to go) but when it comes to refurbishing one if all I have to do is change the wood and get the little accessory bit (the nose-cap and screws and so on) then I'm okay with it.
Long as I am sharing stuff, the PPK from other grandfather. Sadly up close flash pic is like anti-facebook angle mode for ugliness. Green goop is aformentioned operator-pepe gun grease, oil is hoppes gunoil and I autistically slather oil on it since I don't know when it was last taken care of.
>>32327483
And the dust is just this fuckin place man. Didn't have to dust for months on end at my apartment at Uni and here it'll be a light dusty coasting on my PC stuff a week after I dust. I've given up.
One mag is flawless the other won't eject properly from the magwell but also stovepipes when I tried shooting it. For range-fun I'll get a new walther magazine and put the bakelite finger-extension on it but keep the old mag on the off chance it's authentic. I didn't find any serials on it so I am not sure.
When I need to get a CCW gun I am definitely inclined to check out modern walther stuff, it handles really cozily in my hands.
>>32327229
Thus saving a large number of grams of weight and reducing the effective ballistics of most full powered cartridges found in military bolt action rifles.
The only real improvement would be scope mounts, and a bent bolt handle if needed to clear the mounted scope.

I got lucky and found a crate of them in my friends grandpaps attic as we were cleaning it out. Only snagged the 2barreled actions and stocks before someone else swipped the rest.
I dont want to mill the ears off and tap it but if I cant get the scope mount soild I might have to..

It's really a waste of money to try as you usually spend more than the thing is worth and you give money to the assholes that part out perfectly good and matching guns to make a mismatched gun "original."
>Still need the Kerr sling and bayonet.
Kerr slings weren't put on M1917s all that often irl and they weren't exclusively used on M1917s as they used them on M1903s too as well as Thompsons in WWII (which is by far the most common use for them).
