This guy was the lead historical oversight contributor for Christopher Nolans new movie about Dunkirk

what do you think this movie will be like?
>>
>>32323972
Source.
I doubt they'd let someone this autistic be a movie consultant.
Only reason Ian gets a pass with battlefield 1 is because he actually knows what he's talking about.
>>
>>32323972
Perhaps he's autistic but I still like watching him

I don't even understand why

"Before long complaints were made to the university authorities and after much debate over the issue of freedom of speech, Mr Lloyd and his opinions were effectively banned."

"But after upsetting the vegetarian community Mr Lloyd has had his internet access withdrawn, his essay has been removed and he has lost the voluntary research position he has held for six years."

he has been a consultant/advisor on some smaller movies, he made a video complaining about how movie people often ignored advices from their historical consultants because "muh creative freedoms"

I have no idea if he gets hired for something as big as a Nolan project though.

>This guy was the lead historical oversight contributor for Christopher Nolans new movie about Dunkirk

No, he wasnt.

In fact, Matt Easton just posted online about this film, and Lloyd replied, saying, amongs other things "The film trailer looked pretty decent to me. It might even get me into the cinema, which is rare for me now."

So, there's absolutely no indication he had anything to do with it at all.

I really don't get what's wrong with the Mg/34. It looked like it served it's purpose well
>>
>>32333410
It costed more to make than mg42, thats why it was (somewhat) replaced (Suplemented?) by it. Nothing wrong with it per se, except its heavy as fuck, and barrel is harder to change than in mg42.
>>
>>32333443
yeah, although I'm not saying the guy was a bad shot like >>32327048 the presenter seemed to forget that the mg/34 could also use drum mags and every gunner worth a penny also carried a 50 round belt on them to use in a pinch.
>>
>>32326818
To be fair an argument along the lines of 'It feels pretty uncomfortable to do this so I don't think they did it like that. Instead it feel pretty comfortable to do this so I think they did that' is pretty convincing.
>>
>>32332449
Had a shitty costume which Lloyd called him out on at an improper moment. Lloyd later apologized and Clements signed a picture for him.
>>
Guess what?

I'm Batman.
>>
>>32333461
Well this is speaking from experience, I held an mg42 for about 20 minutes once, that shit is heavy and unwieldy as fuck, if mg34 is somwhere near that, I can imagine a tired soldier with muscle fatigue missing with it. Shouldn't happen if they were prone, or trained but hey. Also iirc both mg42 and mg34 were often used from tripods, sometimes with optical sights, that would aleviate some of those problems, but what you gain in accuracy and stability you would lose in sheer possibility to change firing positions relatively quickly.
>>
Lloyd's weapons videos are terrible, usually no matter what the weapon is, be it swords, tanks or guns. For example just take his video about very clearly made up stories about the Cromwell which he tells as if they really happened, and his video on how Zweihanders were used. Terrible.

He needs to stick to general history, and stay away from talking about weapons and individual combat.
>>
>>32333559
How were Zweihanders used then?

with 2 hands dummy.
>>
>>32333574
According to him, swung in a figure of eight while you advance towards a pike, line, hitting all the pikes out of the way...

How they were actually used was as banner guards in a pike block, at the centre of the formation protecting the banner and command staff. Definitely a last resort weapon for the pike block, as zweihanders are excellent area denial weapons. Good for giving everyone else time to regroup further back.
>>
>>32333605
So exactly as you described?
>>
>>32333615
That's what most evidence says. I'm not sure about the whole double pay thing though. The common misconception is they were paid double because "walking at the pikes to chop at the pikes" is so dangerous. But it may be the case that they were paid extra to some degree because their role in the case of a route was so vital and almost certainly suicidal if the pike block doesn't regroup.
>>
>>32327003

>>
>>32333615
>>32333626
I can kinda answer this. Most Zweihander users would have been chosen because they knew either how to use the weapon or knew how to use longswords in general.

Which means that odds are they were trained in a sword school, either Meyer, Mair, Talhoffer, Liechtenauer, etc. If you got pass a certain poing in the school you could join the army or mercs as a "sword master" and get double pay for it.

>>
>>32323972
Every kraut MG is now called a "spandau" and can't hit shit while the brits will be using Bren guns exclusively as sniper rifles.

He's probably pretty good on a lot of things but that video was bad.
>>
>>32333410
There is nothing "wrong" about it. It was and is a completely successful MG. It was manufactured with design standards commensurate with its era and functoned well in its environs. That later designs were improved or used less involved industrial processes have no bearing on it.
>>
>>32333723
>you could join the army or mercs

Was that often the case? I was under the impression that to have the best chance to join an army as a merc you had to be part of a merc company. Armies didn't just recruit a bunch of strangers with no credentials.
>>
>>32333801

Misread what you said. Thought you said "As" mercs, not or mercs
>>
>>32333823
No worries. But yeah, lots of people went to the free schools if only for the fact that well, being a leather maker back in the day sucked ass. Wading knee deep in dog shit as part of your daily job seriously makes you reconsider the idea of getting your brains bashed in for good pay.
