There is an Amazon warehouse 20 minutes from where I live. When it fist opened, I was able to get stuff in a day or two. Then they started pushing Prime. Now nothing comes from the local warehouse at all (always from the other side of the country) and it takes weeks to ship, and yet another week to arrive. Even when I pay for upgraded shipping, they seem to sit on the order longer to ensure I don't get it quickly.

It's gotten so bad I now refuse to pay the price for Prime. I'll try to find things "locally" now, even if I have to pay a little more. I've also dusted off my Ebay account for occasional use. Amazon is an absolute last resort.

I did a little experiment because I had a little spare cash and a huge amount of curiosity. Back in September, I bought something on Amazon and then bought the exact same item from an Ebay seller in China a few minutes later. Amazon took over a month to ship, and a week from the item to arrive. The dude in Shenzhen was on point, he had a tracking number to me within hours of my purchase and the item arrived (through customs) in 3 days, total price+shipping was cheaper as well. Although they never claimed it, even if Amazon was "out of stock" they could have drop-shipped the item from the Shenzhen source and still made a fucking profit.

It isn't a one time occurrence, since they started pushing Prime, they have been consistently lax in processing orders in a timely manner, much more so than any other online retailer I've ever dealt with, including the small business owner in Shenzhen China. This is despite having a large warehouse/distribution center less than 30 miles from my location. Things may be better if you drink the Prime kool-aid, but shitting on the regular customer to goad them to signing up for premium service is quick way to get me to ignore said service with prejudice.
