You can one hand aim and fire a pump gun at close range just fine, an autoloader, you could get off multiple shots with. Even with a pistol, if you encountered somebody while opening the door, you'd back up and put both hands on the gun anyway.

I feel that my house is pretty typical of this area and probably most other houses.

I have several hallways none of which are over 20 inches in width.
All stairs are 18 inches in width with multiple Landings with the exception of the main stairs which are 22 inches in width with only one landing.

All of my interior and exterior doors require two hands to operate, sometimes in addition to needing a sharp kick.

I realize that some suburban homes are not like this but I feel they are a small minority.
