Hey /k/, didn't know whether or not to post this here or in /mu/ but I'm getting more interested in songs composed and sang by soldiers during war, something like "Going Across the Mountain". If you could suggest songs from any war and any nation it would be appreciated, the history and story behind that kind of stuff is fascinating to me

once listened to that on repeat for 16 hour straight pulling an all nighter before an exam
Spent at least an hour or two on the morning giggling to myself eating dry oats
Repeat music plus sleep deprivation is one hell of a drug. Passed the exam tho

This should peak your interest OP. I hate the Soviets, but this is a damn good song.

>The circumstances of the composition and first performance of the song were hurried; the lyrics were published on 24 June 1941, and Aleksandrov immediately wrote the music for them, writing the notes out on a blackboard for the singers to copy manually. The first performance was on 26 June at Belorussky Rail Terminal, where according to eyewitnesses it was sung five times in succession.

What the article doesn't mention is at the rail terminal, soldiers were being rushed off on the trains heading to the front. This is the song they heard as they left to fight the Germans that had just invaded 4 days before.

This one is called "when Johnny comes marching home" it's a civil war song used by both sides with slightly different lyrics. It always gives me shivers
