Stolen Valor Stories
>>
One time I was with an army buddy at a cafe and he got his meal free because lol veteran's day and they gave me the same deal without checking ID presumably because I'm built and make him look like a bitch ass nigga. I said thanks and she said no thank you for your service. My mate nearly pissed himself laughing once we left.

>wear great-grandpa's ww2 air force jacket because its comfy and i like wearing things that belonged to people before me
>remove pins but keep patches and take good care of it and being careful when not to wear it on bad weather days
>afriad of being called out on it one day

anyone else know this feel?
>>
>>32306768
I think it would be shitty if you got called out for it. Just enjoy your jacket and tell them get off your dick.
>>
>>32306768
Anyone who calls out anyone else for wearing WW2 stuff while obviously under the age of 80 is a faggot looking for a fight who would sooner fight you for anything else. Don't worry too much about it.
>>
>>32306560
hopefully it will literally be open season on these leaches soon...
>>
>>32306768
bury it. you did NOT earn the right to wear it.
>>
>>32306785
>>32306888
Nobody has called me out on it but have told me it looks good on me and I explain it owning to him, I don't use it to get special privileges but I do like showing the world what people in my family has done, even had a nice conversation with a Vietnam vet before about WW2.

>>32307031
And then there this reasoning that makes me doubtful of wearing it most of the time because I understand this argument but at the same time theres a sentimental value to family belongings that we have that we don't mind passing along to each other.
>>
>>32307031
Fuck you. It's his jacket, let him do what he wants with it.
>>
>>32306768

If someone is dumb enough to mistake a WW2 bomber jacket for modern day millfag stuff they are retarded.

Also WW2 bomber jackets are comfy as fuck.
>>
>>32307237
don't wear it, at least not as a daily thing, unless you don't mind knowing that one day it will inevitably be destroyed.

nobody looks at one piece and thinks stolen valor. nobody wears a single piece and makes a genuine effort to actually do it. they wear complete uniforms.
>>
>>32307403
yeah i don't make it to be a daily thing for that reason
>>

Not exciting, but eh. Some girl in a cute baseball outfit tried to take me home, but my friend was a faggot and didn't wanna drive back up to pick me up in the morning.
>>
Some mid-fifties looking guy came into my store (flower/farm produce shop,) last year, asking for a discount because he "served in dubya dubya two." I called him out on it and then he said he was in the Korean war. I called bullshit again and he was pissed but bought his stuff anyway. He didn't have a veteran plate on his car. I don't know if there is any stolen valor type law here in Canada, but either way, why do fuckers go around saying that kind of shit?

Great-grandpa's dust, right?
If a dead man's things can be of comfort to those they fought to protect, then why not? You can't take it with you. Put a shrine up to the memory, be it a nameplate or a picture or a dusty old rock somewhere, but otherwise, let a dead man's things be of service one last time.

You should be good. By that burrito nigger's logic, you shouldn't be allowed to wear pea coats unless you were Navy, jeans unless you were a miner, bomber jackets unless you were a bombardier, etc.

Fuck him

Yeah, I tried saying it twice and one of those times I was able to complete my sentence.

It was clear he was just trying to pick a fight. Fuck. The whole thing still makes me rage.

But I knew it wouldn't be worth it to do anything else about it. Eventually it will become just a funny story to share.

>>
I bought milsurp boots on ebay because they're sturdy and comfy. Sometimes someone notices and I have to explain I never served. REEE I just want comfy sturdy boots.
Also my dad's old NVA (that's Nationale Volksarme, not North Vietnamese) jacket is warm and comfy so I wear it when it's cold out and looking good isn't a priority. Nobody assumes I served there (obviously, being only 25 years old) but they seem to like the idea of the son wearing his dad's old jacket. Just wish he left his name tags on.
>>
>>32310562
Easier to look at your watch while prone. 90% of the people who do are just doing it because they saw who looks operator do it. Same as who pogs buy $300 g-shocks.
>>
>>32310567
>>32310614
>>32310562
To add to this:
I wear my watch backwards because I ride bicycles or motorcycles a lot of the time which often means my hand is bent backwards a bit. With gauntlets and bike jacket, the watch sits pretty far towards the hand close to the wrist, and when my hand is bent backwards the watch presses against it and is uncomfortable. Facing down you don't have that problem.
>>
>>32306768

I work in a gun store and often get asked if I'm a vet.

>fat as shit
>like fatter than possible if i had ever been in shape
>shaved head
>big bushy black beard
>usually wearing jeans or oversized black BDUs because so damn breathable and comfy
>generally friendly and chill, but get visibly upset at people for flagging and trigger discipline violations.

4 days a week I get, "Hey man, are you a vet, you know so much about guns and shit!"

I'm so damn fat I can't believe I get that question a lot. Is it just the attitude about safety? The guys that work with me that ARE vets don't get it as often save for the guy that has visible unit tats.
>>
>>32310614
>90% of the people who do are just doing it because they saw who looks operator do it

This dude at an old job would tell you he was a marine a couple times a day. He wore the shirt, pants, boots. Smelled like literal dog shit, as in he smelled like a dog that was kept in a kennel all day jumped up on him and smeared dog shit on his pants leg.

Every conversation revolved around being a marine. No ID card, no plates on his shit box car, bought the shitty AFLAC insurance at work.

Eventually I checked out his social media and found an abandoned MySpace page from 08 with him in dress uniform and saying he was stationed in San Diego. I guessed he got cut or couldnt hack it.

Vets question him on his shit and what boat he was stationed on. He can't give a coherent answer beyond Pendleton and San Diego. They kind of give a pity smile and drop it. He makes guys rage at the gun counter with claims of his shooting prowess. Walks around ready to brag about being a LANCE CORPORAL. I never served but i know vaguely about that shit. Its just an E5 in any other branch, but i dont even buy that.

Eventually he kind of drops the act, because i never question his bullshit but also never act interested or impressed. He starts asking creepy questions about what he should do if maybe some girl were to accuse him of rape.

Then he disappears.

JB- you were the most annoying cunt i ever worked with, but you almost seemed human at the end. I hope you didnt do that. And please wash your clothes weekly instead of monthly.
>>
I work security and get asked if I was in the military all the time. We don't wear any kind of "security" labeled gear or anything. Just a white dress shirt and black pants. I do have some Bates boots, but it's just what I like wearing.

It gets kind of annoying being asked this just because I sit up straight, don't show up looking like a homeless person, and happen to work security.

In my experience, about a quarter of my co-workers over the years in this job have been ex-military/police. The other 3/4ths are on the other side of the spectrum and wouldn't be allowed into the armed forces if they tried. Depends on what client you work for, but there are positions for qualified employees, and positions for people who barely qualify to be a human smoke detector.

You're probably right about the rank thing. I just know its not the same as corporal in other branches, its like a private in some other branch. A scrub.

I mentioned it to a older friend who had been an actual marine in Vietnam. We were hanging out at his house on veterans day or the marine birthday or some such event. His buddy and him got this predatory smile on their faces. They weren't even mad, just looked excited and wanted a name and description. The difference between a real veteran and a fake is pretty obvious. JB was a piece of shit. My older friend was one of the smartest and coolest guys i have known. He had some stories about how they lived after being discharged. I guess the 70s was a fun time for guys who actually gained some skills that could be useful in civilian life. This dude kept on working in Asia on radio and later some nuclear tech for the Japanese and Chinese. He was disgusted by their inability to deliver parts and equipment to the specified quality needed. Tripping acid in Joshua Tree and living out of a suitcase jet setting across the Pacific every few months. He was straight fearless and seemed determined to live life to the fullest

weirdest was when i ran into a guy i went to boot camp with in tokyo haneda airport after i missed my flight back to okinawa and decided to just get drunk. We've got various procedures in place to direct them to support services if they've turned to crime or fallen on hard times. The kid who wants to be in the special needs class because they get extra teaching aids doesn't realise that they get them because they are retards. The same as stolen valor.

If my limited experience with military is anything to go by, there's gonna be at least two roll calls and at least two guys with those clicking counters counting how many people pass them, and once the lists and counters have been cross-checked and found A-OK, will they march on board one by one, with someone counting over them as they head out on the runway and someone else counting them as they board the plane before a final roll call.
Still, it did sometimes occur that someone got lost.

How the fuck is stolen valor even a real thing.

Really the military worship in this country needs to fucking end. It's extremely cringy. Just implement mandatory conscription with service like Switzerland or Finland. That way the worship of the military ends and people become much more safe and trained with guns.

I don't mean to be mean, but do you not crossboard very much?
A few years ago, peacoats were all the rage on /fa/, and even for normies they're a pretty safe (Classic?) bet for autumn or early winter clothing.
Granted, the way it fits might betray its military origins to a trained fashionista's (read: Raging, unbound homosexual) eye, but to most people it's just a pretty normal coat these days. I'm pretty sure the Saints rock them in Boondock Saints, and that movie is getting to be pretty old now.
I could wear my Tiger of Sweden trench coat just fine through late summer and autumn without anyone asking me if I was stoked for Battlefield 1, shot up a school or gassed any Turkroaches recently.

tl;dr I wouldn't worry about it.

Our officer ranks look different for a reason, dots and diamonds so we are not confused by soldiers or can trick them. Also, officers wear the ROTC pins on their ASU so anyone who can read would see that.

Now the real fun begins

>Gear up with kneepads, body armor, boots and helmet one night to go for a run aound 2 AM, so as not to disturb anyone or cause an issue.
>Begin run as normal, go around campus (which is only about 2 miles) once, rest, do it again.
>Around the second time, the security guard sees me and freaks the fuck out

I did summer camp there one year with my reserve unit. I thought I had seen some shitty .mil towns untill I saw Junction City

Overall the director of the uniform got mostly everything right. Not sure if that is also a CIB on top of the ribbon rack, that's a bit fudgy.

As for the badges below it's from left to right.CIB, Master parachutist, anf Air assault badge. Are you talkin bout the master parachutist?

I will never understand why faggots do this. Shit, I understand if you lie about something but who gives a flying FUCK about what you're wearing? Especially if you're telling the truth about not serving. Fucking autistic retards, seriously. Give all the other veterans a bad name
>>
>>32306768
Spent ten years in. No one will care man. Especially if it's a flying jacket.

I've had similar happen, don't ever know how to respond..

>be me, bartender
>have lots of friends who served
>lots of vets come to bar I work
>all good dudes, not boasters, motto or asshats about their service
>form friendships with regular customers
>meet military dudes for beers and a burger one afternoon
>me, large dude, dad bod-ish, operator beard
>sitting between military pals drinking pints and eating glorious cheeseburgers
>military bros get buzzed, start tossing out jargon
>start talking about goofy shit when they served
>me quietly consuming burger and drinking beer listening/watching ESPN
>finish up, get tickets
>bartender comes over
>comps beers
>all of our beers
>thank you for your service
y-you're w-welcome

I'm not sure we can implement Swisrael-style conscription but I'm absolutely in favor of public service type things for the majority of people. Would help this country in a lot of ways.

not stolen valor related, but same idea
>in chilis with /k/ friend who is a few years older than me
>at the time he's 23, i'm 18
>he's pretty baby faced, i have a full beard that hangs down quite a bit
>we look basically like brothers, but most assume i'm the older one
>gets carded when he asks for a beer
>chill waitress assumes if he's over 21, i must be too
>keep a straight face every time the waitress comes back asking if i'd like another drink
first time i've ever gotten piss drunk in public, it's just not the same anymore once you're legally allowed

>Be me and my friends
>we met in the army
> we loved the army so much that when we got out, we decided to stay and live at Fort Hood
> one day my friends and I are in austin on the weekend, just like when we were in
> Im wearing my grunt style t-shirt
>my friend is wearing and Art15 shirt
>we are all wearing our spurs and stetsons because we are proud of our cervix
>see old homeless guy, looks really down on his luck, probably hasn't eaten in a couple days and his mental health is completely fucked
>he's wearing a USMC hat
>ask him where he was stationed
> he says Da Nang
> I tell him theres no place called Da Nang in Afghanistan
> my friend says stolen valor
> my other friend takes video of us telling him to take off the USMC cap our brothers died for
> call the police so they can arrest him for stolen valor
> walk off to 6th street, talking about how its bullshit that these guys think they can use there military to get handouts while specialists like us actually earned our valor
> ask for my veterans discount at a bar on 6th street
> they don't have it
> demand to see the manager
>they kick me out
> just like active duty
>go home and update our old unit's almuni page on facebook, telling everybody what happened and posting video
> kill myself because I'm not an army specialist anymore

>>32319587
You're keeping mikitary personal from starting a few bar fights. Close enough to serving.
